Weve just got to go for a win end of story, no one upfront BS, Baros and Morientes, run there defence ragged, from now on Rafa has just got to put a winning team out home and away. No more defensive malarcy away from home its obvious now we cant play like that, I am hoping to be a very very happy person come 6 o clock on sunday evening, being 2 points behind the BS.
But the point is we shouldnt be playing catch up to such a sh#t team anyway.
Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes has recovered from the groin strain that forced him out of the recent 1-0 defeat at Newcastle Utd in time for Wednesday’s Premiership clash against Blackburn Rovers.
With the Merseyside derby this weekend, it’s an ideal time for Rafael Benitez’s side to close the gap and with victory over Blackburn tomorrow the gap between the fifth placed Reds and fourth placed Blues could be narrowed to just five points.
Though Benitez confirmed Morientes will be able to play tomorrow, he also told the press that Australian midfielder Harry Kewell won’t be expected back until April.
He said, "Morientes had a tight groin but it wasn't too serious. He's been training okay and he'll be fit for the next match.
"Harry Kewell is still unavailable, but I hope he'll be available in two or three weeks."
SEASON OVER FOR 'RESTING' KEWELL
By David Maddock
HARRY Kewell's season is effectively over after manager Rafa Benitez finally bowed to the player's demand to rest.
The Liverpool winger has been at loggerheads with his Spanish coach over injury problems which have seen him start just twice in the past three months.
Benitez was furious after the Aussie ignored his pleas to throw off ankle and groin niggles and play in the Champions League tie away at Bayer Leverkusen last week.
Now, after a visit to top German sports injury expert, Dr Hans Muller-Wohlfahrt, Benitez has agreed to let the player have a total rest cure for the next three to four weeks.
The Spanish boss said: "Harry Kewell is still unavailable, but I hope he'll be available in maybe three weeks."
That rules the winger out for the rest of the season as he will have little time to get match fit when he returns.
Benitez's frustration with Kewell will lead to him seeking a replacement in the summer with the likely prospect of a further bid for Shaun Wright-Phillips, a player he came close to landing at the start of the season.
The enforced absence leaves Kewell in a difficult situation as John Arne Riise has proven his ability on the left of midfield, and Luis Garcia is now beginning to settle in the Premiership and show his worth on the opposite flank, or as a deep-lying striker.
Benitez at least had some good news yesterday when Xabi Alonso revealed that he is ahead of schedule in his comeback from a broken ankle and could play in the Champions League quarter-final second leg, scheduled for April 13-14.
Benitez said: "Xabi is improving a lot.
"If he's back training with the rest of the squad by the end of the month, like we hope, he has a good chance."
