We should give the lad a few games at the start of next season and then we should decide. Let him have his operation and what not and give him the summer to recharge and see how he does next season.

i think his international coach (frank farina) and his agent are always on rafa`s back moaning about playing him when injured. i think this is ****** rafa off the way they are always getting their oar in.
if he is injured then fair enough i suppose, but how serious is this injury? willie stephenson played 80 odd minutes of the 65 cup final with a broken collar bone because there were no subs in those days.
i think we were unlucky with houllier because we ended up with probably the only long ball merchant in continental europe.
with kewell we have ended up with the only australian sportsman or woman who wouldnt run through brick walls to compete at their particular sport. i couldnt imagine those aussie rugby players waving to come off like harry did at cardiff.

Benitez baffled by Kewell setback

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez admits he is mystified by the injuries keeping Harry Kewell on the sidelines.
Benitez appears to be losing patience with the injury-plagued 26-year-old.

Kewell is out of the Champion League clash with Bayer Leverkusen and Benitez said: "One day Harry is okay, and the next he says he is unfit.

"We don't know exactly what the problem is. It changes each day. One day he says it's the groin, then it's ankle. Another day he says he can play."

Kewell limped off in the Carling Cup final defeat against Chelsea and was not fit for Saturday's Premiership defeat at Newcastle.

But Benitez was initially building his plans for this Champions League last-16 second leg in Germany around the prospect of Kewell being fit to play.

Instead, Kewelll was a late withdrawal - leaving Benitez with a threadbare strike force and only Milan Baros of his recognised strikers fit.

Kewell has struggled with groin, ankle and Achilles injuries in recent weeks.

I know this may sound strange, But Kewell should have put his foot down along time ago and insisted he have the operations.

It looks as though he has done some perment damage and will never be the same.

I wont disagree with that, though once you have an injury, it seems that that area is always going to be signifigantly weaker than the rest of the body that hasn't been injured (Michael Owen's hamstring, Kym Hinton's ankle...)

Its been very hard for Harry to put his foot down and said hey, i need an op, when you got all us Aussies and a stupid national coach that has no idea about the game, wanting to play Harry during the season and after. The need for Harry is huge, and he had no chance to have the op, the same goes for this summer, he aint getting an op cos he is needed in the national squad otherwise, we wont have a chance in hell to qualify for the world cup. His priority is always football, and his health has declined because of it. The guy needs a break, he's done some long term damage that wont be repaired for a long time. One more season, hell, we did it for Smicer, who is nowhere in the same league as Kewell, if you guys want to get rid of someone, make Smicer surplus to demand.

He does need an operation, but on what!?!One day its groin, next its ankle. By the end of it he should be like the $6m man. The talents there, but you can only blame injuries for so long. Sort it now or risk losing all the support you've got, Harry. And I am a fan of what your capable of.

Sorry, call it sour grapes but Kewell's a disgrace to the number 7 shirt. If he stays it should be with a number showin he aint a regular first team player, not the shirt immortalised by a footballing legend. Which Harry, tho undoubtedly talented, will never be.

Fellas, a groin or muscle problems can sometimes be a lot worse than a broken leg. These injuries take a long time to heal. I remember also when Robbie Fowler had HUGE issues with his ankles, and it took almost 1 1/2 seasons to finally figure out what was wrong with him. One day he would be right, the next he was unfit. And even though he was and still is one of our favorite sons, that period was tough for us, cos we didnt understand what the hell was wrong with the guy. Give Harry enough time to recuperate, let him have time off for his operations, and its guarenteed that he will put club before country, as he always does. But the club needs to give him time, and stop calling upon him to commit too early. This has been the trouble with Harry, he is too eager to please the fans and the club than think of his own health. Rafa was wrong to call upon him in the cup final, Baros would have been a much better option.

... from my understanding the Boss did ask with him to to join the squad in Leverkeusen.. but he refused... that is it as far as I am concerned.. he should go.. and let some other club deal with his "I'm crock" again crys..

Kewell will be a major casualty of the Benitez regime next summer. Liverpool will let him leave for almost nothing.

I used to have sympathy, but there are stories that Kewell was advised to have an op last summer in the off season but he declined, instead going off on holiday with his missus. If those stories are true then he's the architect of his own misfortune.

Houllier called time on Rob Jones, claimimg that much of Rob's problems was in his head, and Benitez will do the same with Harry.

We may be able to get £4-6m for Kewell and I'd rather have the money. In our situation, that's hardly chicken feed. We have Riise, Le Tallec, Smicer, Warnock and Garcia who can all play on the left (and there's one or two there I wouldn't mind trading in) and we no longer need his dead weight or salary drain. We are still being linked (although without too much substance) to Vicente and other attacking midfielders like Aimar and if we want one of them, there can be no real place for Kewell who will be out classed and redundant. Take the money and kick him out.

Agree with that JBG,
The fella's on £60 grand a week and is doing fk all. Either he uses this coming summer to sort himself out or Rafa will get rid. Having said that I've got a sneaky feeling Kewell fancies a move anyway, and another fat signing on fee.
