V southampton - Time to move on once again

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Yet another disapointment today but you win some and you lose some. Those who are putting all the blame on the manager will have to wake up and smell the fresh air.

We do not have many experienced and quality players to come off the bench that can play for us in all the FA Cup and Carling Cup games. Unlike Chelsea we don't have two good players for every position. FA Cup is the oldest cup in the world however it's not important as nearly as much staying in the top four in the Premiership and in the Champions League.

Now before many of you get on my back, the fact of the matter is if we had won today and won the FA cup at the end but not finished in the top four meaning that we didn't qualify for the Champions League, would class player be willing to sign with us? What will a class player be looking at? The club being in the Champions League or winning the FA cup? As much as the FA Cup is important in the UK, it is not as important in Europe to players that we could bring to this club.

We simply couldn't not survive in all four competions without getting one of our key players injured. God forbid if we had played our starting 11 and some of them got injured. The pitch was awful and we could had easily lost an important player today. But with our luck and injuries we simply would had fallen sooner or later. Benitez knows what the FA cup means to this club but the Champions League brings money and with money the club can buy good players.

Benitez is still the man for the job, I believe he can bring glory to this club but it is not going to happen over night. There is no shortcut to it, we will just have to continue to wait. When Wenger came to Arsenal he didn't bring them trophies ASAP, it took time and this time its no exception.

Now we face Southampton next. It is important for us to win and get on a run. We need our players to gain their confidence and get on with it. We have good enough squad to win the upcoming five fixtures. We can still finish in the top four. Theres no time to dwell on our misfortunes so we will have to move on.

I don't know whether Nunez will be able to play as he got a red card in today's fixture but here's the starting 11 I would use:

                      Dudek
Finnan     Carragher    Hyypia    Troare
Pongolle      Gerrard       Hamann   Riise
                 Morientes     Baros

The youngsters fooled us in a way. On LFC.tv two days ago Rafa said that he was going to use young players, did anybody bother to read that?

Why is it such a shock? The youngsters made a good impression on us and the manager thats why they played today but they got caught up in their own fantasy world as they thought they would win without trying, their ego's were too big for their own boots.

They had no desire and no passion to win the game, end of. You can't blame Benitez for something like that.

This season was going to get worse before it was going to get any better than the previous one. Rome was not built in a day. We simply do not have enough depth in our squad to compete in all four competions, thats a fact. To top it all off, most of our players would had been off to play for their countries in the World Cup qualifiers, and we know that Baros got injured in a Czech fixture.

Our luck and injuries have taken its toll and our main priority is to finish top four in the Premiership, there is no way around it, over it or under it. :D

I reckon that we will be up for it or I hope so. It's an important fixture and we need to win as Neverton will slip and we will need to take their fourth spot place.

I watch the majority of the games on tv but I'm not a hypocrite. Because we all love the club so much we get caught up and easily post the negative things, but you have to look at both sides of the story as they say. The more you're optimistic the better.

Both negatives and positives can be taken from every result. Sometimes we seem to look more on the negatives when its a bad result than we do on the positives.

Theres no use crying over spilt milk or playing the blame game so lets just look ahead.

come om guys ... life still goes on ... I think it is good to lose in FA CUP ... we still have league cup , CL and the most important thing is that CL spot for next season .  Can't blame the players and can't blame RB . It's just been our bad luck .This season it have been the worst season because we been missing a lot of key players like baros , cisse , sg , alonso and many more. I belived we can still win that CL spot.

Next match with the saint . It's a huge test for them . I belived that if they can get over this test , so we will see the best of them again .

God Bless , Amen !

The Southampton game will be difficult to win. If we pull this one off I wiil be well pleased !! Morientes best have been putting in some serious training to get fit and learn to play with his new team mates, he will be needed to stretch the net a few times.

Agree with you.  But also, if we won the FA Cup, and failed to get into Europe next season, would Stevie G have stayed, or gone to Chelsea for the CL glory?

I know what I would prefer!!!  We must have realistic priorities.

southampton are without phillips this weekend i believe so that is their main goal threat gone. presuming stevie g recovers from injury and we have our full side out we should wipe the floor with them.

however as per usual, i have no idea what team rafa will pick.
