Factor in his wages over the time he has been with us and when you look at the big picture and compare the returns he gave us and what outlays Liverpool have to fork out, he has been a disappointment.

Only recently is he starting to try with more effort and passion. Before this, he had always looked uninterested.

I agree with peewee that Kewell loses possession way too easily, sometimes too cheaply. I was just really getting annoyed with him when he made that headed pass to Gerrard who passed to Alonso for the first goal. His workrate and effort has improved of late but he needs to work on his passes and movement. Even a much more limited player like Finnan or Riise did not give away the ball so often and so cheaply.

Desire my friend...that's what he is lacking. No matter if you have bags of skills, if your heart isn't there, you get performance like Kewell's...sad coz he should be one of our key player instead of just making the number.

Regardless of all the best praise deserved by all the players including Kewell, but, yes, he was the weakest link in the match.
Liverpool was superb and it was one of the best games we've played since Rafa being in charge, especially given our best strikers were not there.

I understand why Houllier wanted to sign Kewell, he has played very well for Leeds and was very instrumental in their CL run and also had been doing especially very well for Leeds against Liverpool almost every time. he has bags of skill and is the kind of exciting player we lacked. Based on abilities alone, he is easily more than a match for Damien Duff.

But like Santa's comments above, he really looked very short on the one important factor - desire. The real Kewell has been absent since he joined us.

Totally agree yet what happened to the old Kewell ???

I believe he can still be a class act for us IF he wants it enough.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

I don't think Kewell will go to Villa, peewee, as he and O' Leary fell out when at Leeds. Kewell famously said that O' Leary talked rubbish and he couldn't understand O' Leary's directions to him as to his role in the team and had O' Leary not been fired, Kewell would have walked.

disagree y'know.

i think its a combination of fitness and confidence. its very hard to run round and show desire when you're not fit. and when you cant perform the way you know you can, your confidence goes. i've been p*ssed off with him meself but us slaggin him isnt gonna help with his confidence (even tho i have in the past). however this isnt his "get out of jail free" card. if he continues not to perform, theres no option but to bench him. you can only give a player so much time. apparently he's on a strcit "Benitez style" fitness programme which should have him fit again soon. hopefully we'll see him start to play.
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

I was very suprised by the motd highlights when I was looking for Kewells contribution, as to how effective he really was. The only poor effort was the wasted shot into the Kop late on.
I would like to watch a video of the whole game and see how he combined with Riise down the left flank.

I thought he played ok yesterday
was a bit frustrating at times - but most wingers are - he was in and out the game a bit - again like other wingers are
but when it mattered - he was their with his contribution
I thought his heading was brilliant yesterday - really unsettled the shi*te
and just before Mellor scored - I thought I was watching WWF Wrestling when someone "clotheslined" Kewell - they were an absolute disgrace yesterday - so called champions turned definite CHEATS

On the Harry Kewell issue
I have a possible solution
What we need to do is buy Damin Duff from Chelsea - I know poeple have suggetsed this before - but I have proof
I bought Champoinship Manager the other week
I've bought Morientes, Duff & Gallas
Suddenly - Harry Kewell is playing out of his skin for me

Any money on Rafa going for Downing from Boro, the lad who roasted Josemi last week. Rafa, must have been impressed, he might try a swap, reunite Harry with Verruca. !!

Nope. no more gamble on potential talents. We need real talents who are at their peak. We are still a relatively young team. Need more experienced players.

For me both kewell & mellor put in a spirted performance. Although both lacked quality in their play, i believe they gave it their all.

The thing that disappoints me is that, seeing how kewell tore apart arsenal at anfield last season and seeing him now...... Man, that is really sad ...

But, have to say, if kewell didn't attack the ball, mellor might not have scored the winner.

I remember having championship manager a few years back and Sean Dundee was consistently my best player!
