Plea to rafa benitez... - Robbie fowler...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Sean » Mon Nov 22, 2004 7:10 pm

Fowler scored 17 goals in 2000 / 2001 when alot of his appearances were as a sub.  The following season he started o.k. until his argument with Thompson and scored a hat trick a couple of weeks before he left.  I was at Fowlers last game for us against Sunderland in November 2001 and he looked sharp until Hamann got sent off and Fowler had to be sacrificed.

I honestly reckon he didn't give a toss about Leeds and isn't motivated at a going nowhere club like Man City.

Occasionally, footballers do come along that only want to play for one club.  Steve Bull never considered playing for any other club but Wolves because that club was running through his blood.

Similarly, Fowlers heart never left Liverpool.

Fowler cost us nothing first time round and he banged in goals for years. We then sold him for 11 million. At 40 grand a week on a two year contract he'd cost £2 million in wages plus the transfer fee.  Where is the risk ?  We can't lose.

I'm not saying it would be a disaster Sean but why take a long shot on Fowler when our money would probably better spent elsewhere?

Perhaps if Fowler agreed a big cut in his wages, came on a free and was prepared to be third choice striker when Cisse came back from injury, then yes, maybe it might be worth a gamble, but I doubt if any of that would happen.

I also think that Fowler has fallen so far behind what it takes to cut it at Premiership level (the same goes for Steve McMannaman) that even minimal outlay on him would be a waste of money and time and would ruin Fowler's relationship with the fans.

Did you not see him against Portsmouth? He looked sharp and dangerous, and seeing as though he's not had too much first team action of late, it looked like his fitness level was actually surprisingly good.

Some fans have to stop living in the past and wake up to what the majority of fans can tell you, namely that Fowler is no longer the player he was.................Sad but true ???

I get the impression that an air of Poverty has overtaken a lot of fans however when it comes to talk of bringing players in....We are not the poor club many believe we are because we have not received any investment. I have no doubts we will spend a significant amount on at leats a couple of players in January.

true robbie is not the same player he once was BUT: 1) imagine the response at the kop when he trots on the field - a lift to a team that could use it ; 2) he will need no adjusment time -- he can just be plug and play ; 3) he will be cheap ; 4) that said anelka is looking ~ 8 mill come on he's a cancer and i don't see a line for his services ; 5) my screensaver will become current again and that's the biggest point for me

some very good points, i am lucky to know robbie on a personal level and i know what LFC meant to him.

you are all saying what a poor player he is now, why didnt he perform for leeds and man city? the simple answer is because he doesnt want to. he never wanted to leave LFC but his days were numbered with that argumentitive pr*ck phil thompson.

i will give you a scenario, you are in love with miss world and she loves you, its a great passion and every time you go near her you score. all of a sudden miss world doesnt want you anymore and you end up living with bella emborg. i ask you where is the passion or the will to suceed then, you dont want to.

then miss world calls you again and asks you to move back in with her, all of a sudden the passion returns, you start to shower again and wash behind your ears and under your forskin, you start to score more, your passion is back, you are idolised and you have a reason for being good at what you do.

think about it

If funds are available we should pull out all the stops to get Morientes & Ledley King
Would still love to see Robbie Come Home - give him a pay as you play deal & bump it up by offering a goals bonus - I can feel those Premier defenders shaking in their boots already (Dreaming - Probably) - he'd come to the rescue - even just for 6 months
