Great game by Cape Verde, a shame they couldn't go through.

Got this god awful feeling that England are going to win this thing and we'll have to suffer the likes of Declan Rice and Jordan Pickford getting standing ovations at every ground in the country [bar ours of course] for the next 12 months.
France look amazing but world cups have a nasty habit of not being won by the best team [Holland 74, 78, Brazil 82, Denmark 86 etc]

Haaland kicks out Brazil and England hold on to beat Mexico.

Guys from England here, any of you lads want them to win it??

When they've had our lads in the side I subtly want them to go far, more for our players than the team. However this cirrent side we ain't even got 1 player in the squad. Full of rival and oppo players. Arsenal have won EPL and imagine Saka, Rice doing it, you won't hear the end of it.

Good performance from England but I’d say they beat tough conditions rather than a tough team, Mexico are not a powerhouse of football, even with the altitude and fan support. Could England beat Argentina, Spain or France? I suppose time will tell. I do see them as an extension of Arsenal and as you say, full of rival players. I am English, born in London and when young was an avid England supporter. I’ve watched England play at Wembley, both old and new, many times. It really changed for me when Sven managed the team and he encouraged Owen to go to Real Madrid to reach a higher level, that is when it changed for me. Every tournament the hype from the English press is deafening even though England doesn’t really have any world class players. Take Kane’s penalties away and his numbers are not stellar, and was the same with Shearer. Jude Bellingham rejected us and encouraged Trent to move and is a bit of a prima Donna. Last two tournaments England had an incredibly easy draw to the final so overachieved somewhat and made Southgate a Sir. If they win I’d be happy for the country but not the players.

England's squad is stacked, they've left players back home who would walk into the Argentina squad never mind Norway's. The likes of Trent, Foden and Palmer would be in any other squad in the tournament apart from England and France's. I dont even think Odergaard makes the England squad for the same reason Foden and Palmer havent - they wouldnt be picked ahead of Bellingham.
Thank god for France because i'm telling you if this lot win the WC we would never hear the last of it, knighthoods all around, statues outside stadiums, Kane's statue would probably go on Nelson's column, Nelson would get fvcked off, standing ovations at opposition grounds every time one of them takes a throw in or corner, trophy parades attended by millions in about 5 regional cities, never mind Sky Sports News can you imagine the ordinary news channels like the BBC, ITV, C4, C5 etc and as for the papers - Jesus.
As for Liverpool Pickfords face would be plastered all over this City.

Postby red till i die!! » Mon Jul 06, 2026 8:03 pm

Beginning to think England have a good chance myself. Never hear the end of it if they do!

Anyway it's now officially a joke of a tournament. Trump gets that red card overturned  That infantino is a disgrace and hopefully this will be the end of him.  The US should be banned from holding any sporting events for a while. Obviously not over the red card but due to political interference from the off. Restricting countries or individuals they dont like should have been grounds to take it off them.

This is why this WC sucks man. I've actually enjoyed the football in it, some of the games have been fun to watch, but all the politics involved are nothing short of disgraceful.

IMO it wasn't a red card in the first place but to overturn it or rather to postpone the suspension because someone outside of football made a call and openly admit to it is scadalous. That fool Infantino even mentioned that this is not the first time someone, usually a polititian, has called him over something and he's had to change or make a decision to their liking. Goes to show how the govrening bodies of football are rotten to the core.

France Vs Morocco

Spain Vs Belgium

--------------------

Norway vs England

Argentina Vs Switzerland

6 Euro teams
1 South American
1 African

Argentina haven't really had a stern test, they've struggled with the lesser sides. If England get past Norway I think they'll beat Argentina, who should get past Switzerland.

Looking like a France vs England final imo.

My big worry is i think France will face sh1t.house tactics from here on in, i dont think anyone will try to take them on in a game of footy, i think teams will take a leaf out of Paraguay's playbook especially given one or two French players were petulantly having a nibble back.
Maybe it's because i'm a natural pessimist but i just cant shake this feeling that England are going to do it sparking 12 months of the worst kind of boorish Colin W@n'ker lager-lout nationalism imaginable, 12 months of "10 German bombers/no surrender to the IRA/who are ya" - all that malarkey. The papers will be unbearable.

Yup could happen like that but I also think IF England get to the final they won't win it, they ain't got the mentality/conjones and will choke. Team/management maybe different but they've fallen flat on many occasions. Then again who knows maybe they'll finally break that curse.
