This has the potential to be a memorable world cup for all the wrong reasons. It will be interesting to see some of the crowds for a start given the reported problems surrounding ticket allocation.Wouldn't be surprised if half the grounds are empty.

3 sendings off in the first game, you could possibly make a case for the first one but the other 2 were incredibly harsh imo.
Anyway the results from Group A were

Mexico 2 - 0 South Africa

South Korea 2 - 1 Czech Republic

Mexico.        3pts
S. Korea       3pts
Czech R.       0pts
S.Africa.       0pts

Brazil V Morocco was the best game so far. Very surprised at how good Morocco are. That lad we are linked with played well. Think they said he was only 18. Looked decent enough tbh.

Watched ivory Coast last night to see Diomande. He looks alright as well.

Holland weren't great tbh. They rely on Van Dijk as much as we do. He played well, Grav ok and Gakpo poor again. Isak played well and got a goal plus assist.

Uruguay up now so chance to see Nunez!!

In the Ecuador game last night Caiceido went down and stayed down. The ref stopped the game and even though he didn't receive and treatment he sent him to the side line for a minute. I like that rule.

Very happy for them. I’ve been to Cape Verde a few times for Marlin fishing and you have to follow the fish and what Island they are at. On one of the islands called Sao Antao they have a “hotel” (basically an un airconditioned small room) for the fisherman to stay at and right next door is their football pitch. It’s a mixture of sand/gravel and it has a sea wall on the side of the pitch that is about 4 meters high and at the bottom are lava boulders, basically if you fall off that edge you will be mangled if not break your neck…. Now you should see the way they played, absolutely full throttle and insane. They invited me to play (I’m a right winger) but I respectfully declined. Any native born cape verdian would have grown up playing on pitches like that. They probably have great athletes but not the infrastructure to get the best out of them.

Interesting stuff mate, we all know expanding the format is so they make more money but tbh it is good to see these small nations given a chance.

I must say I'm very surprised and pleased how well the smaller nations have been doing so far. I was sceptical at first about the new format and the small nations participating but it hasn't been so bad so far overall.

USA isn't the greatest host though. The prices of tickets are astronomical and not the directon we want football to move into. Shamelessly introducing 4 quarters for comercial breaks masked as hydration breaks is also a very American thing to do and not something we want in football.
