Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Can’t fault his attitude regarding fitness and effort.

Despite not being a starter and being dropped from our CL squad, he’s worked his @ss off when given the opportunity to play.

I’ve read he’s been added to our CL squad since Leoni’s injury. But I think he deserves a chance with a PL start. He looks 100% fitter than last season.

He looks like he finally has the fitness to match his hunger, quality was always there for him too. It was always about staying fit about him, as yakka said in a different thread the fitness coaching staff have done an excellent job with him it seems. However, it doesn't change the fact that Fede is prone to injury so we shouldn't rush him into too many games IMO. But he should play more often for sure.

His willingness to chase lost causes led to him creating Alex's goal tuesday and his first touch for Hugo's was a thing of beauty, he put both goals on a plate. Mo should be rotated/subbed more and Freddie should be his replacement. No disrespect to Mo who's a Liddel/Keegan/Kenny-esque genuine great of this club but having someone on the right hand side of our attack who's prepared to graft his ar.se off would make a nice change.

The Italian national team have sent Chiesa home after his first call up in 2 years. The coaching staff deemed him too unfit to play for the team. How utterly embarrassing for the lad! Are we to blame for this? All the lads look unfit.

Embarrassing for the lad and our club.

Chiesa is being paid a fortune to be unfit. I'm going to the training ground tomorrow to sign up.

Further evidence for the claims that the lads are not training enough and the gaffer has his eye off the day to day running of the team.

You kinda the feeling that Slot's been found out, rather like Trump's been found out over in Iran.

EPL is known for intensity, you can't be passive, we're definitely doing stuff wrong in training that is why we're getting out run.

Nothing in this articles says anything about being unfit, it was Chiesa that wanted to leave.

When they say unfit they can also mean injured, which seems to be the case.

I took these from the Italian sports newspaper 'La Gazzeta dello Sport':

Italy, Gattuso loses another player! Chiesa returns home, replaced by Cambiaghi.
"He was deemed unavailable for the next two matches and, in agreement with the club, he left the training camp," the FIGC said. Bastoni, Scamacca, and Mancini are still doubtful.
Rino Gattuso's national team is off to a rocky start as they prepare for Thursday's 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff against Northern Ireland in Bergamo. The coach has been forced to do without Federico Chiesa, who has left Coverciano. "After his physical condition was assessed upon arrival at the Federal Technical Center, he was deemed unavailable for the next two matches and, in agreement with the club, has left the national team's training camp," the FIGC announced in a statement. Nicolò Cambiaghi of Bologna has been named in his place.

National, Chiesa unavailable—
For Federico Chiesa, it would have been his return to the Azzurri after nearly two years since his last appearance, the night of the Euro 2024 elimination against Switzerland. Gattuso had long pursued him and, after receiving three rejections in September, October, and November, this time he managed to convince the son of a famous player. "He didn't feel ready, and I need someone who truly is; he has some issues to sort out," the coach explained after the last negative meeting. This time it seemed like the right time, but evidently the paltry 673 minutes he's played this season against Liverpool doesn't allow him to be in acceptable form for two games without appeal.
