Champions League 2021/22

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby kazza » Thu Aug 26, 2021 7:22 pm

Well at least we have good weather. Tough group but we should progress. Liverpool have drawn the Spanish champions Atletico Madrid along with Porto and AC Milan which looks a very exciting group with a few nice trips abroad across the continent for those who follow Jurgen Klopp's side. ManUre with their typical easy group  :glare:

We will have to be on our toes from day one, it could help keep us focused.

Yep, got the hardest group. The mancs as always the easiest. I think we can beat anyone though, but I fear we might struggle against Atletico once again.

I think that's a tough group. Madrid are tough and the other 2 can equally take points at home.  Still think we will go through but probably not till the last game or two.

They're all big names but in all honesty Porto and AC Milan don't have great sides so we really shouldn't be struggling to get through the group. Porto have been our whipping boys in the recent years and AC haven't been in the Champions League for almost a decade. Atletico Madrid are a top side so we can expect two tough games against them.

Tough group for us but confident we will pull through, potential in the last game or so because I feel it will be tight.

What a great tie to start the Champions League campaign with. Milan may not be the force they once were but they are footballing royalty and we obviously have history with them! Should be absolutely electric in Anfield.

Sure and they will have a point to prove. If we can win the first two games and get a draw at Atletico, we will be in commanding position to make the next stage. If we stay healthy there is no reason we cannot win the group and the schedule is favorable for us.

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Gomez, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Jota, Salah, Origi.

Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Van Dijk, Konate, Thiago, Milner, Mane, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Minamino, Tsimikas, Phillips.

Surprise surprise - Origi  back in the XI.

Great to see Gomez starting a game again,  :grinning:

The draw for the last 16 will be today. Who would you like us to get? I'd say anyone bar PSG and Inter Milan would be a good draw for us. So anyone of Sporting, Benfica, Villareal or Salzburg, we should go through with any of those easily.

I'm begging for PSG. The Champions league is about the best vs the best. Let's overwhelm them make them quit!! Make a statement and teams will be afraid to play us.

Hopefully then we can get Mbappe..

Red Bull for us, United get PSG, City get Villarreal, Chelsea get Lille.
Cue tons of Messi v Ronaldo hype for the next 2-3 months.
