Yup I agree currently Matip should be paired with VVD. He is ahead of Gomez and Lovren.

It's a 50:50 between Matip and Gomez for me. Our defensive record this season was better with Gomez than with Matip mind you. But the key reason why Gomez gets the nod for me is because he and van Dijk complement each other more.

Matip deserves to play in the final though, no doubt, even though Ajax will probably suit a player like Gomez more.

I'm sorry, but for now Matip is just the better cb.

Absolutely, he's very dependable as well as scores goals. Gomez will have to be patient.

Gomez showed his ability last season before the injury but I too would stick with Matip for his experience. He looks a different player to the one paired with Lovren...who obviously bread uncertainty at the back.

Huge blow that for sure. Can't really trust neither Gomez nor Lovren at the moment. Bad timing as well, soon we'll have to play the big derby against City.

That is not good at all, bad news. Matip has made that position his own and his partnership with VVD has been good. I hope Gomez will step up now.

Bad news.
Agree that I can't trust Gomez and Lovren after their recent showings...

I can remember a time when people were saying the same things about Matip  :grinning:  Gomez was excellent alongside Van Dijk last season until he got injured so he has performances in him but it's hard to replicate that when he gets little game time.  If he gets a run of games he will get back to that level.

It's Lovren who scares the shyte out of me  :nod

Such a classy CB. And maybe the most underrated CB in the league.

He's a quality player, but he's made of glass. He'll be injured within 4 weeks, guaranteed
