Yup begs the question who will play alongside Lovren?? It is a messed up situation we are in.
In desperate times Can used to be our last hope for CB. I would crack up if Klopp plays Milner there.

Probably Fabinho but I would not put it past Milner to put his hand up

Think the CL knock out stage begins mid February. Reports suggest Gomez should be back around mid January and Matip end January.

Hopefully they'll both be available and able to put in a good shift.

Wonder if there's any sense in promoting some from the younger teams. After all, many of them train with the first team regularly. At least have them on the bench as an emergency fallback option

The amount of times Matip was pulled out of position today was unbelievable,he provided no support whatsoever for Van Dijk. The poorest defensive performance we've offered up all season.

I agree Matip and Lovren have a lot of similarities. Funny how they used to pair with each other, can't wait for Gomez to come back.

Was a poor game for him - at fault for the first goal , just looked all at sea , would put it down to being rusty because before the injury he was playing well

Joe will be back alongside Van Dijk and Arnold back at RB by the time we return from Dubai and some much needed composure at the back will follow  :nod

Not his best game today, but I still prefer him over Lovren.

Matip had a good solid game ,He is another play maker for us with great distribution of the ball forward ,he is also a threat from set pieces which we hardly get from Joe BTW..Wasn't at fault for any of the goals.

Shout out to the big man (one of several) who has done very well with a little run in the side. Are there many better 4th choice CBs around?

Will Gomez get his place back I wonder if fit again!?
My choices in order to partner VVD would be.
1. Gomez
2. Matip
3. Fabinho
4. Lovren (if we are really desperate)

Matip has been immense recently he deserves more than he gets.

Pairing really well with VVD.

I saw one set of playing ratings for last nights game that gave him a higher rating than VVD. Quiet but very effective, that partnership has really grown.  :buttrock

My preferred back four , Trent, Matip, Virgil and Robbo  are just f'king awesome , with Matip playing a key but often underrated role in our defence.

As for Gomez ?

Superb back up , but still learning his trade.

Matip over Gomez every time for me.
