We are still slowing progressing close to the 35 mill mark.
We won't spend high sums like City, United or Chelsea.

I agree though if we want titles we have to over spend.
At times it may not work in our favour but at times it can be pivitol.
80+mill for Pogba is friggin crazy but if he does have a crucial impact on them and helps them to glory then its money well spent or shall we say repaid for.

When City snapped KDB for 50+mill i was thinking here we go another overpriced player.
However his impact says another.

In order to compete in the market you have to spend at least 150 mill. Thats if you want to compete on all levels.

I think that we can still get real quality players within the 30-40 million range mate. We just have to move in decisively and not too stingy on the wages. Mane is a quality player in that price range for example. Like I said I'm not advocating on competing in level terms with the other moneybag teams. First of all we need to improve on our scouting. For example, I don't understand how Southampton could keep on signing quality players for peanuts and then sell them for 4-5 times of what they bought them for to the bigger teams. FFS, if they have kept all their quality players in the past starting from gareth bale, they could have been challenging for the league title consistently now. Why can't we spot these players that Southampton scouts can spot? How could a team like Tottenham, a brand that has so much less influence than ours in the world, out-compete us for players like Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Wanyama, etc. I have to point the finger at FSG on our dismal performances in the transfer market and the scouting department.

You are finally starting to see the light Mags.  :buttrock

6 years under FSG, with 1 minor trophy to show for it and 1 season in the CL. Pathetic really.

Flashy profits and stadium redevelopments is all well and good but it's what we do on the field that matters the most.

Unlike the previous pair of shysters (whom we actually won things under) FSG have a very powerful PR machine that does nothing but produce spin, which the most gullible seem to swallow every time.

You don't even have to look that far, even on this forum you have several of their acolytes that refuse to accept this and point to how "profitable" and "sustainable" we are instead.  :no

Dude... I've never advocated FSG's transfer strategy (otherwise I do think that they are good owners). It was worse when the notorious Transfer Committee was in place. At least now, JK has an eye for quality players and knows what he wants. It is also the reason why I felt BR's hands were tied and his failure was in part due to FSG's strategy. He didn't have enough experience to say feck off to the owners and went on to take what was given to him. The Balotelli transfer was a perfect example. He was given a list of players that he could choose from and if the player he wanted was not in the list, too bad. And he was also given a performance target. The guy was under so much pressure that he chose Balotelli. The owners think that Balotelli was a "50 million player that they could bring in for 16 million". Sounds to me like they we're acting abit like "know-it-alls". I think JK would not make the same mistake. He'd rather say feck off to the owners and he has enough experience and clout to do so.

My usual transfer window meltdown is coming I can feel it today with rumour Chelsea are about to bolster an already loaded squad, you know just to make sure they can look back and say they did everything possible to win the league.

Maybe we have a recruitment machine behind the scenes treble loading all positions for the title tilt or is it still the 'special Liverpool way' ie not spending anything because its way cooler, I will stop for now  :;):

We are massively in this title race this year.. We have no European distractions and our first 11 can give any team a run for their money. Only worry for me is our squad isn't deep enough with quality for if one of the first 11 get injured. We NEED to buy a Mane replacement for when he's away that is capable of playing week in week out even when Mane returns. We also need to address the LB position aswell because if Milner gets injured we are SCREWED!! To depend on Moreno scares the living hell outta me.

I think Klopp's philosophy though mate is if he buys a left back that left back is going to be good enough to nudge Milner out of the team. In other words he tries to sign players that go straight into the starting XI.
To be fair without spending ridiculous money it's probably not that easy to find players better than the ones currently in our starting XI. Dahoud may be one but to be fair Wijnaldum and Henderson are doing well.

Klopp won't buy players to fill the reserves. He also takes personal joy in uncovering hidden gems, although as the Mane transfer showed, he's not afraid to spend big on players he wants.

Like everyone here, I want us to improve the squad. Dahoud, Promes and Subotic, for example, would be great signings for January. But how much would they cost? And is Klopp really going to spend £70 million now?  Probably not, but I'm hoping we bring someone in....especially a winger.

German winger Julian Brandt linked but for the summer, probably waiting to raise funds by selling Couthino first

Klopp will stick with what he's got unless he can bring in the right player. It's not necessarily about buying players that will immediately displace any of the current starting 11 but it's about not buying players who he will want to sell in a season or two. Basically no stop gaps who turn into "deadwood".

I see Jamie Redknapp is saying Virgil Van Dijk is the best defender in the league. Well obviously when they had 6 in defense at times tonight and midfielders in front of them, he would look good. I watched him on TV when southampton played spurs and he looked really poor. Being totally unbiased, I personally thing Alderweireld is probably the best defender in the league

The ironic thing is Alderweireld is another one who was scouted by Southampton. He was on loan but still goes to show the talent they can find.

We basically need Luis Suarez up front, Gerrard in his day and Alan Hanson at the back.

I'd go for Traore from Boro, yes he's erratic but at least he can make things happen. Being at Boro he's also a realistic target.
I don't care what anyone says there's definately room in our squad for a maverick who can run at players and take defenders on, we've got loads of one paced plodders that like to go sidewards and backwards so a player like Traore even with his errors would be a breath of fresh air.
How many players with genuine pace have we got? Mane, Clyne and Origi are the only ones I can think of, Sturridge used to be quick but he's definately lost a yard.
