This is more like it
(dubious source though and injured until October).... Real Madrid Defender Fabio Coentrao linked with us
Reports in Spain are claiming that Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao is set for a move to Premier League club Liverpool.
Catalan newspaper Sport report that the Champions League winners are willing to part ways with the player, and that he is likely to land at Anfield before the close of the summer transfer window.
Sport are suggesting that Coentrao will join the Reds on a loan deal, with the club to get the option to buy at the end.
Liverpool are in dire need of a full-back, especially given Alberto Moreno's clueless performances of late. The Spaniard had an absolute nightmare against Arsenal on Sunday, giving away a penalty in the first half with a silly foul, among other misdemeanours.
Despite the obvious hole which needs filling, Coentrao does not appear that great of an option as he is out injured and will not be ready to play until October.
The 28-year-old suffered a hamstring injury back in April, playing on loan at Monaco.
This bit of news directly contradicts prior reports. A Sunday story in Marca claimed that Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was going to take the gamble on Coentrao, and was happy to wait on his recovery.
Madrid lack cover for Marcelo's position on the flank, and are said to be certain that the market has no better back-up option for the Brazilian than Coentrao.
The player had surgery as a result of the hamstring injury, but has began running exercises in a bid to step up his recovery. He would definitely prove a hit at Anfield, but given the circumstances, a move just doesn't seem ideal for either party.
