Utility players like Allen are handy to have in the squad because they can come on and do a job for the team but he is not good or consistent enough to build a team around.
He had an absolute stinker today but he's not the only player to have struggled playing next to Gerrard in recent times.

Him and Hendo are squad players who for me who can come and fill in when needed. We need better central midfielders, especially with Gerrardin the twilight of his career.  Just don't see anyone in that midfield who can grab a game by its neck and take control.

Last season the likes of Allen and Hendo could get away with working hard,  pressing etc due to the genius of Suarez but now we need them to step up and play a bigger part but I dont think neither are capable of churning out performances week in week out

I know he has his doubters, but I like Allen. He's a good squad player who will always put a shift in and give 100%.

However, as has already been mentioned, he's not the type of player who will unlock defences with a killer pass. Nor will he burst through the 16 yard box and score a screamer into the top corner.

Needs to go back to the bench now, he is pedestrian in our team. Doesn't defend well and offers nothing to our already crappy attack.

He's alright, and I agree pretty much with your assessment of him, he's a decent squad player who if things are going well won't let you down, but he's not exactly quality. We payed £15,000,000 though mate for him. I reckon we'd have signed Alex Song for £20,000,000 this summer and he's still only 26(ish), failing that on loan. Point is, we've payed fifteen million for "a decent squad player who if things are going well won't let you down, but he's not exactly quality" to quote myself. Thats insane money spent on that calibre of player....

http://www.espnfc.com.au/liverpool/story/2314423/liverpool-have-finally-adapted-to-luis-suarezs-transfer-to-barcelonasays-joe-allen

This guy should concentrate on his football and not spew this kind of rubbish to the media as it makes us a laughing stock with these numpty comments.

Really hope we can replace him with a solid CM over the summer as his days are numbered and by reading his comments and what he is alluding to, he is as clueless as half the lot on this forum are.

Not sure what the issue is, I agree that we are finally adapting to life without Suarez and if you look at us now defensively we are a better team. Not sure why we would be a laughing stock over what he said. Negative people will always be negative!

A mediocre player telling the media that he thinks we are now a better side without Suarez in the team.

Not sure what part of that you fail to see is an issue?   :suspect:

Lets wait for us to win a premier league before we start telling the world we are better side without him.  :no

Ffs really? Are you worried Suarez feelings might get hurt? This is a player which praises his teammates and motivates his peers with some harmless ,a bit exaggerated words that's it.

This has nothing to do with Suarez or his feelings you dill. We simply aren't a better side without him, why you would go out on record saying that to the media is a bit stupid. Especially when you are a fringe player.

If it is tongue in cheek, then I guess I missed the fact that Allen was intentionally trolling.

Exaggeration, though .......you are one funny mofo.

Joe Allen is a chip of the old block isn't he ?

I heard he is getting a new contract and might even be made as a vice captain....  :wwww

I reckon one of the reasons Rodgers wants to buy Big Ben is that he can go back to his Swansea target man 4-3-3 formation (which is probably the only formation Joe Xavi Allen) can play in...
