excuse me for snipping your post but i think the words i've highlighted are important. i'm fairly convinced that rodgers and ayres and all the rest are not sitting with their fingers up their jacksies wondering what the hell to do. i'm also convinced that they are not going to be announcing every thought, transfer target and offer that crosses their minds to the UK press and footy forums. what do people expect? are we hoping the club are going to announce "don't worry, we're going to sign sanchez. and if not, we'll get benzema or rodriguez or hulk"?

the only hope people have is from the baseless rumours they see floating around the internet. my opinion is that it is best not to get excited or to despair until we see some concrete news from the club itself. there is plenty of time left in the window, and the world cup isn't even over yet. i'm sure the action will hot up and quality players will be coming in over the next few weeks. until then, lets enjoy the smell of the 70 odd million quid we've got to spend.

Excellent post Andy. Reading some of this the only word that come to mind is NAIVE !!! Over 90% of what the media report during the summer transfer window is absolute rubbish. Most of it is guess word at best and yet a lot of fans start getting very upset before anything has actually happened. What's to Say the Barca Suarez deal won't fall apart. Nobody except a very small group of people have got a clue exactly what is actually happening.

Given that we have had 3 very average transfer windows on the bounce where we have spent over £60m without seeing much in return (certainly in terms of starting XI regulars) then people are going to get nervous. It was only last January that it emerged that Chelsea had tied up a deal in 1 day that we had been working on for 3 months and the Konoplyanka deal fell through with the Ukrainian club slating the way we do business.
It was only a couple of seasons ago that Fulham reported us to the F.A and we had that 'last day of the transfer window debacle' where we left ourselves one injury away from disaster.
Our transfer committee have got a lot to prove, their recent record isn't very good, Infact it's poor, fans are right to be sceptical unless your a happy clapper that is.

losing suarez is a massive blow and im just peeved that nothing seems to be happening in securing a top replacement. if they knew he was off before the W.C then we appear to be dragging our heels again.
we need to be looking at players like reus, morata or go back to miktaryan with a better offer, these are the types we should be looking to go for. not players like lallana and lambert.
you cant just expect players to be lining up because of who we are, we need to get out and sell the club to them  :nod

Think as St Mike alluded to in an earlier post, maybe we should forget about attempting to "replace" Luis, lets face it, there's nobody we could sign (however good they are) who could realistically get the amount of goals that Luis got for us.

Perhaps the key to our future progress is for us to concentrate more on a dominant midfield and a solid defence.

As great as it is to watch some swashbuckling footy, we don't have to win every game with a hat full of goals, we just have to win !.

This! Spend every possible penny on improving our defence, we play attacking football and we will score goals. Get better left and right back and a better goalie and of course a better defensive midfielder.

If the release clause is 63 million, the person who put that amount in should be fired...

Easy to say now. Last year he nearly went for 40, 63 is a reasonable rays from that. Besides the release clause will typically have to be agreed by both parties before contract signing. If Suarez was planning a move away this year, he wouldn't have agreed to a release fee that was too high and risk a deal not happening.

Lets not forget the man who pulls all the strings stands on the touchline ,I'm pretty convinced that if Rodgers
and the board let Suarez go then he's already set on the creation of a new animal ....pardon the pun.

We do need to strengthen our defense, there's no question about that, but we need a replacement for Suarez as our number 1 priority in my opinion. It's hard to recognize the tangibility of what he offers. Not just his 31 goals and 12 assists, but all those chances missed that he created, all the extra space players like Sturridge and Sterling gained just from him being on the pitch. We also had what, 13 or 14 pens last season? At least half gained by Suarez? We're talking half of our goals last season probably wouldn't have happened without Suarez.

I like the link we have to Huntelaar, he seems to score wherever he goes, but he is 30. I know we are asking for the likes of Sanchez, but he doesn't seem that interested. That is the calibre we need tho. I like Higuain. He's still only 26, but he has consistently scored a goal every other game wherever he plays. I think he'd be a good shout. Hard to say he'd want to leave Napoli tho.

Either way, we need somebody that will contribute to at least 30 of Suarez's goals, and that won't even be close enough to what we need to have a season like we did this year.

You're right Ethan, without replacing him we won't be able to score more than 60 goals. But even if we find a decent replacement for Suarez I can't really see us scoring more than 80 goals in the prem next season. Suarez' contribution can't be replaced IMO, so we won't be able to score as many as last season regardless of who we sign as his replacement (unless it's Messi or Ronaldo of course). Improving our defense is a must, we need to lower the conceded goals tally to at least 40 if we want to have a go at the title again.

Possible the release clause was low to seal the new deal and another year minimum, a year we got into that champs league.

I know its hard when you love a club but Suarez is too good for Liverpool and to keep him means concessions, despite his antics.

No two deals are the same and Bale moving from Spurs compared to the Suarez situation are chalk and cheese.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder how much Barcelona would sell Suarez for now?

Chilean press confirmed that Sanchez has gone to Arsenal for 30m.

Don't know where this leaves us with Suarez. Hopefully we walk away from it if it is reported 63m. Which is a disgraceful offer.

From the Mirror

Luis Suarez transfer to earn Liverpool £75m if Barcelona's Sanchez refuses to move the other way
Jul 05, 2014 22:30 By Simon Mullock
Kop still hoping to convince Chile World Cup star to join them in part exchange for bite-ban striker but if not the Spaniards will pay full buyout clause

Anfield chief executive Ian Ayre has struck a deal that will see Barca pay the full terms of the buy-out clause in the bite-ban striker's contract.

Liverpool were hoping to recruit Alexis Sanchez as a makeweight in the deal.

The Chile winger is reluctant to leave Spain but if he is forced out does not want to move to Anfield. He would prefer to join Arsenal.

Last night, the Merseysiders – who tabled a £34m bid for Sanchez just before the World Cup when it first became obvious that Suarez wanted to leave – were still refusing to give up on landing the 25-year-old.

But if Sanchez cannot be persuaded to join Liverpool inside the next 48 hours then they will take the cash deal.

Manager Brendan Rodgers rubber-stamped Suarez’s departure when it was made clear to him at the end of the season that the Footballer the Year wanted to quit Anfield.

Rodgers will now be given the cash generated by the third most expensive transfer in the history of football to strengthen his squad.

Around £37m has already been invested in signing Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Rickie Lambert, while another £20million has been earmarked for Southampton’s Dejan Lovren.

But a senior Anfield source said: “Significant finances have already been made available to the manager and if Suarez leaves that cash will supplement the fund.”

Many Liverpool fans will be devastated that Suarez is leaving, despite the Uruguayan being hit with a four-month ban from all football for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini.

GettyBite club: Suarez and his dramas are set to become Barcelona's problem
But Ayre has conducted a remarkable piece of business for a player who cost £22m from Ajax just over three years ago.

Barcelona were the only club interested in buying Suarez after Real Madrid dropped out of the running following the third biting controversy of his career.

But when Ayre met Barcelona representatives in London on Wednesday, he made it clear he would walk away unless he was given assurances that they were ready to meet the buy-out clause in Suarez’s contract.
