Being linked with Caulker. I think he would be a good signing.

I'm a big fan of him too. Would make a good signing and replacement for either Skittles or Agger.

Can't believe he is still with Barcelona. Would be a good signing and perhaps another player who may re-ignite his career at Liverpool but where does that leave Borini?

Actually he was a starter for Swansea at the time, not just a squad player. Also, everyone thinks that Sakho and Ilori will be our future defensive partnership anyway, so we'll need some squad players too. Caulker is a better player than Skrtel and would also cost less, so if we play it right, it's possible to sell Skrtel, buy Caulker and make profit in the process.

Never been impressed by that Bojan, reminds me of that Dos Santos who went to Spurs in a blaze of publicity before disappearing into footballing obscurity. I was hoping we'd be setting our sights a bit higher than that, especially if we get CL footy.

Dos Santos didn't disappear at all. He's done well in La Liga since he left Spurs, first for Mallorca and especially now for Villareal. He's definitely one of the best players playing in Spain at the moment. He's always been great for Mexico as well. Just because he flopped in England doesn't mean he has disappeared. I might have even suggested signing him if it weren't for his horrible time at Tottenham.

As for Krkic, I always cringe whenever we're linked with that guy. Got over hyped since he was a kid and flopped wherever he played.

Err this over-rated Farcelona "wonder kid" has done f**k all in the last 3 years and now at age of 23 should be showing a whole more......

Thanks but no thanks. :talktothehand

Metro online. Sunday March 2nd

Luis Suarez HAD £40m release clause but Liverpool just refused to sell to Arsenal, claims John W. Henry

Liverpool owner John W. Henry has sensationally claimed that Luis Suarez did have a £40million release clause in his contract last summer, but the club simply refused to sell to Arsenal anyway.

The Gunners made their infamous £40m plus £1 bid after being tipped off the Reds would be forced to accept all offers over £40m for Suarez, but Henry held firm.

Arsenal, and Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola, eventually accepted there had been confusion over what the clause entitled them to – with Liverpool insisting they just needed to inform the player of all offers over £40m.

But Henry has now seemingly admitted that the Reds simply refused to be held to ransom over the player’s contract after being burnt in the Fernando Torres deal.

Speaking at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference over the weekend, Henry said, when asked how Suarez was potentially key to Liverpool’s future plans: ‘Luis Suarez is the top scorer in the English Premier League, which is arguably the top soccer league in the world.

‘He had a buyout clause of £40m. Arsenal, one of our prime rivals – this year we’re tied for second … we’re actually second because of goal difference.

‘They offered £40m plus £1. What we’ve found … is that contracts don’t seem to mean a lot in England – actually, in world football.

‘It doesn’t matter how long a player’s contract is, he can decide he’s leaving.

‘We sold a player, Fernando Torres, for £50m, that we did not want to sell, we were forced to.

‘Since apparently these contracts don’t seem to hold, we took the position that we’re just not selling.

‘It’s been great for Luis, it’s been great for us.

‘We have three gentlemen up front Suarez/Sterling/Sturridge, [they] are young, I think Luis and those three could be together for a long time.’

Wow ! has anyone seen any other "reports" on this statement ?. If the content is true no wonder Luis was so p'ssed at the time.

That aside, hats off to Henry for playing hardball and fking arsenal off.

I agree of course he was annoyed but at the time we all backed the club and in my mind Henry and FSG played a blinder there.

Interesting comments on Torres. I had never heard that we were forced to sell Torres, how long was left on his contract at the time we sold him? I know he wasn't on his final year. Love to know what forced the club to sell him? I wonder whether it was relating to some ridiculous European Human Rights law that applied if we blocked the intentions of a players wishes to move.

Interestingly Tony Barrett just tweeted the following

Suarez's clause was tested by various lawyers & the PFA. John Henry has either been misquoted or not got his own wording right.

Which suggests that henry may have been goading Arsenal. I think the £40,000,001 bid may have p!ssed him off.

Sounds better.

Wouldn't want the world thinking our owners don't honour contracts   :;):

Think the "forced to sell Torres" comment relates to the fact that Torres submitted a written transfer request, something Luis stopped short of.
