I think Torres had a release clause although it hasn't been specifically stated.  Purslow was in the sky studio on deadline day this January and also said something about being powerless to stop Chelsea's bid for Torres. I wonder if the release clause only becomes active if the player submits a transfer request... but players depending on their contract stand to lose millions in loyalty payments if they submit one, so they try and avoid it.

Not sure why Henry is coming out with this now to be honest. Unless he's been misquoted it sounds like he's saying LFC didn't honour their side of their contract with Suarez... and if so he surely could have taken us to court over it if he really wanted to go?!  Perhaps they knew he wouldn't as it would have taken months to sort out and he would be wanting to play being a world cup year when he's in his peak years as a player? I don't know.

I'm sure any club very keen to sign a player would offer to compensate any loss of "loyalty" payment via the signing on fee.

I hope some of the FSG critics feel a little bit happier at the way Henry basically told Arsenal to "do one" over their insulting offer for Suarez !!! I just hope they haven't got grounds to sue based on Henry's comments. I just hope that his interpretation that the contracts are virtually meaningless is correct.

Some Gunners sites are saying they should sue

Not sure why John Henry brought this up, Arsenal may go to the F.A or UEFA or FIFA or somewhere and if we were in breach of contract it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they'll hit us with a fine or even worse dock us points.
Luis might feel a bit pi$$ed off too, remember he was made to train with the reserves and had to apologise to the manager and his team mates over his stance and he may have been in the right all along. He was adamant that he had a buyout clause and it had been met.

I reckon he's just making mischief to unsettle Arsenal or I bet if the clause was there then it would have been something like consider bids over £40m or allowing him to talk to teams. I don't reckon it was any team who bids over £40m we have to sell to. Don't think Luis would be that p1ssed off the way things are going, probably reckons Henry did him a favour

Maybe so but why rock the boat when everything's going so well? Arsenal are starting to slip anyway, why fire them up?

Someone has definitely had a word in Henry's ear that the Gonners are a fragile club that inevitably implode at the end of every season and all he has done is stuck the boot in with these latest shenanigans.

I really don't know why you are all concerned, there was NO written contract obligating us to sell Suarez to them, so they can f**k off and waste their time complaining to every Tom, Dick and Harry under the sun.

It just adds more pressure on them now and I actually think this is very cunning ploy by the club to sure up 3rd spot.

Laughing at how deluded their fans are.

I hope by splurging all this out to the news that Henry hasn't done a rafa and shot us in the foot. We need to keep this momentum to the end

I hope not !!

Rafa's infamous and untimely rant (as much as I enjoyed it!) was one of the greatest motivational speeches of all time. Unfortunately it was Manchester Fecking United that it motivated  :(

Yeah. No reason whatsoever to come up with this nonsense. Hope it doesn't hurt us.

Some posters said that Arsenal can sue us, but on what grounds? Wouldn't the claimant be Suarez himself, not Arsanal?

If Henry was intentionally trying to wind up Arsenal he could have gone the whole hog and said that he would have happily accepted £30m for Torres !!!
