The criticism of Hustler is extremely distasteful   At least he made an attempt at answering the question (which is more than I'm going to do) even if his answers were utter shite. But at the end of his day it is just his opinion.......

You can't beat a bottle of Becks straight out the fridge on a friday afternoon!! :D

Going back to the start of the season... and pre-summer signings...

Adam Lallana from Southampton would be first on my list. The lads class, got pace, skill, technique and a brain in abundance. Likes his one two's and link up play and can take a set piece aswell. I reckon you'd get him for around £10m - £15m. I would play him behind Suarez, infront of Gerrard and Lucas and leave Coutinho out on the left.

I also think he'd be an able replacement for Gerrard in the coming years.

Secondly I think Ashton and Bullar.... oh wait no... that was 6 years ago :D

I would have liked us to at least attempt to sign Collicini from Newcaste as I think the lad is a very good centre half. Again I would expect around the £10m mark.

I think Sessegnon from Sunderland (now W.B.A.) for £6m would have also been an excellent signing. He has a good touch, skill and strength, is quick and I think he'd step up a level playing with better players.

And Richards (maybe slightly unrealistic) to play right back. I think his arial power and aggression are attributes the side lacks. Again I think the promise of first team football would be enough to entice him.

Begovic instead of Mignolet (i think would have been possible for a similar price).

Out the door to fund it:

Johnson - £5m
Skrtel - £4m
Spearing - £2m
Allen - £3m

Leaving us with something along the lines of...

Begovic

Richards
Collicini
Agger
Enrique

Gerrard
Lucas
Lallana

Suarez
Sessignon
Coutinho

Bench:

Jones
Kelly
Henderson
Sturridge

one or two others.

To me that team wouldn't be far away at all. Maybe the odd adjustment over the coming years but I believe it would certainly have had enough to get us into the top four.

Stu - As they say it is down to opinions. I can't see why you think your selections are a lot better than what we have. I'm also at a loss with your valuations and the players that you would get rid of - Allen £3m ? Johnson I wouldn't get rid of and I like many others thinks that he makes a meaningful contribution. Henderson on the bench - was it you that said that he runs around a lot but what else does he do? Henderson has come on in leaps and bounds and at the end of the season will be a highly regarded member of the team. And as for Collicini he certainly doesn't do It for me. Suarez would be really pleased: http://www.rateyourplayer.com/posts/dir ... rassed-you

You've gone down in my estimations anyway mate - Becks ??? WTF

LFC1990 - I'm amazed AV hung onto Benteke. Would have liked him at Liverpool.

Yeah If we had a front 3 of Benteke Sturridge and Suarez then our Front 3 would consist of the Strength and power of Benteke The speed of Sturridge and the trickery and magic of Luis.

He must have got a huge huge pay rise to stay at Villa. I know we were intrested and im sure Spurs bid

This is another crazy thread. Just like Footie Manager again. You could have opened with "when starting FM14 this year, who will you sign?"

You said to go for realistic signings, but we didnt buy any of yours, making them unrealistic by default. The window has closed, so is this targets for January? Might be a bit too early to write our new boys off just yet.

If you mean 'before' the window, it was all heavily discussed already.

I thought then that we should have tried for Xabi Alonso. I felt the stage was set for his return really.

Don't have too many of them before posting mate, or your posts will become more aggressive like the old days  :lookaround  and you'll be out of here in no time.

My brief (very brief) and tactless analysis of your post wasn't sarcasm !!  :grinning:  On a brighter note my admiration for you actually answering Stu's questions was totally genuine.

I can only see Lallana and Lassana Diarra as good shouts in this thread.
