"But I want to say now that, if you want to know what will happen to me if we don't qualify for the Champions League, then I will say this: I have a contract with Liverpool and I am very happy here. I will stay." - Luis Suarez, January 31, 2013, after signing his new contract with Liverpool.
I hope this makes things clear for everyone. That whole interview gives me no hint of any verbal agreement whatsoever with the manager. Moreover, verbal agreements are worth nothing. I could say one day to you, "yeah son, I understand you have a lot of ambition, but just give it your all, and we'll get CL. If we don't get CL next year, I'll consider any offers if Real/Barca come knocking".
Other points to note -
A) Spurs did not sell Modric in precisely the same circumstances - Modric had some notion of a verbal understanding in that case, with the chairman Levy.
B) If there was anything legally binding in his contract, the club wouldn't have held their position so strongly.
C) He says he gave it his all - that means biting an opponent and getting banned for 10 games?
Jesus, I can't believe I'm having to defend the club and manager from the accusations of a third-class individual, and that too from our own supporters.
