The 24-year-old has emerged as the Reds' major transfer target this summer and reports have suggested he could be available for £22million.

Mkhitaryan set a Ukrainian league record with 25 goals last season and while Shakhtar are keen to hang onto their prize asset Palkin suggested he would be available for the right price.

"As you know, there have been too many different conversations about Henrik Mkhitaryan," he told Russian newspaper Izvestia.

"But the situation has been strongly and artificially inflated. I can say that we have had no communication from any member of Liverpool.

"Henrikh is an important player in our team. Shakhtar want to keep him but we are willing to listen and consider all proposals for his transfer.

"We have already parted with Willian and Fernandinho but the club will not just sell players.

"Soon we will also strengthen ourselves with quality players, designed to replace those who have left."

Liverpool's big-money bid to land rising star Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been derailed by troubling questions over his ownership.

On Thursday, Russian news agency Tass was reporting the Aremenia international was preparing to fly to Merseyside for a medical.

But official sources within the Anfield giants moved swiftly to dismiss the suggestion, and privately pointed towards growing issues raised during the negotiation process.

Liverpool thought they had secured an agreement with the attacking midfielder’s club Shakhtar Dontesk, for around £23million, but it transpires the Ukrainians only hold a PORTION of his rights.

Shakhtar share ownership with a business group that invested in the player - a situation common at clubs in eastern Europe and South America.

Striking a deal with at least three different parties has proved elusive for Kop manager Brendan Rodgers and his staff, despite their desire to bring one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe to the club as part of their summer reshuffle.

Mkhitaryan was preparing to fly to England for a medical earlier in the week, but those plans were put on hold by the confusion over negotiations.

A spokesman said on Thursday night: “There are no plans for a medical for the player.”

Liverpool WILL conduct a medical on Friday though - that of young Spanish star Luis Alberto, who will complete a move from Seville for an initial fee of around £5m.

Liverpool are facing a delay in their move for Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet - and the prospect of problems down the road over who will be first-choice at his position.

The Reds will press on with the deal and will DEFINITELY sign Belgium international Mignolet if they can agree a fee, but boss Brendan Rodgers' plan for this summer was to bring him in as a direct replacement for Pepe Reina, who seemed to be Barcelona bound.

The Mirror though, understands the Reina deal could be in question, and the veteran insisted on Thursday that he may stay at Anfield - potentially leaving him as one of the club’s highest-paid players but only their reserve keeper.

“I have three years left on my contract and I want to fulfil that and even go further. I’m very happy and satisfied at Liverpool, I feel valued and respected,” he explained.

“In principle my plan is to continue with Liverpool. The best option for my family is for me to stick with Liverpool.”

That would present problems for the club, who are at an advanced stage in talks for Mignolet and wouldn’t want to have such a big earner warming the bench.

Reina did also hint at a possible exit, though: “Logically, if there was a chance to improve and go to a bigger club, it would be a good opportunity, although there are few clubs bigger than Liverpool.”

I'm really getting fed up with Reina, every year he's leaving for Barca I really wish he would once and for all.

I am in general tired of players talking like "If RM or Barca come for me, it would be hard to say no". This attitude is just not acceptable.

I'm tired of all these f*cking ownership/agent rights to players.  It's f*cking ridiculous, and we never seem to have any clue what's going on with these players, who owns them, or who their actual agents are.

I'm sure we're lining up all these strikers to take the dependency on Suarez out of the discussion and allow us to command control over both Suarez (put a request in or shut up) and any interested parties (we don't need to sell, but also it's of no issue if we do, please meet our valuation or eff-off)

I hope I am right and I quite like what I am seeing. Anyone who says we aren't approaching things differently (and possibly from a more progressed position) than a few years ago isn't paying attention I think

being linked with oscar cordoza whats your thoughts on him, id be happy signing him, hed do a job for a few seasons. and with mkhitaryan, coutinho, sturridge ans aspas all playing in and around him there would be plenty of goals. personally i believe if suarez leaves liverpool should sign benteke, dont feck about, ask what villa want then give it and get him signed up.

at the minute i cant see suarez joiing madrid as they dont want him and he has yet to hand in a transfer request,,,, i can see suarez being here for a while yet
