Why? How many strikers do we need? Would you rather we went into next season with Downing on the wing and 18 year old kids as back up?

We certainly need more than 2 strikers !! Sturridge and both Borini have suffered from injuries over the past 12 months and it would stupidity to go into the season as just those two !!!

If we get another striker (Benteke etc), who do we play up front then? Will either one of Sturridge or Benteke  be happy on the bench? We had the same problem when we bought Robbie Keane when Torres was here. If you're only playing one man up top it doesn't work when you have a big signing ala Benteke on the bench.

Liverpool have agreed a fee of around £11m-£12m with Sunderland for goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, Sky sources understand.

Brendan Rodgers' side have recently been linked with the Belgium international, who was one of the bright spots in a difficult season for Sunderland last season.

Speculation continues to link Pepe Reina with a possible move to Barcelona and Liverpool have made their move for Mignolet.

Mignolet moved to the Stadium of Light from Belgian side Sint-Truiden three years ago for £2m.

He still has two years remaining on his contract but Sunderland appear to have found it too hard to resist Liverpool's overtures.

And what happens when Sturridge gets a niggle or suspended etc !

Football is a squad game nowadays and players should understand that

We went into last season short up front and got caught out

A strike force of Sturridge and Borini isn't one that will fire us to the CL.

I would prefer to have a top quality striker with Sturridge as the support

Yeah because that worked out for him at Chelsea.

Sturridge wants to play and wont be satisfied if he doesnt play. Thats how most players work nowadays. If they sit on the bench continously they will get disheatrened and not give their all for the club.

Besides Sturridge has fired goals at an outstanding rate why should he give way

If that's how you put it, then what will happen if Downing gets suspended or injured? Who will be your choice, Sterling or Ibe? Because 18 year old kids is all we'll have! Never mind the fact that Stewart f*cking Downing is our first choice winger.

Also, it's not just sending Sturridge to the bench, it's breaking a whole partnership.

So again what happens when Sturridge suffers an injury ? He has been injured twice since jan and is currently injured ! Bring in Borini who hasn't scored in the prem and spent most of the season injured ?

If Suarez stays obviously he plays so what do you do with Sturridge ?

Not sure exactly what Downing has to do with us replacing Suarez if he goes.

Every top team has multiple striking options to cover all the possibilities.

And Sturridge also suffers from injuries regularly.

Sturridge is a decent striker - a good option to have in the squad but I don't think he has the all round quality to spearhead us into the CL. I don't see him popping up scoring goals when we really need them

I'm still not sold on Sturridge.  He's done very well to start, but I wouldn't be surprised if, by the time January rolls around he's still at less than 7 or 8 goals.  I hope that doesn't happen obviously, and I know he's capable of putting a lot in if he can become more consistent, but until then I'm not gonna sit here and say he's our first choice striker if Suarez leaves.

coutinho's card will be marked next year and he will have to expect more pressure. sturridge likewise.
11 or 12 million for minolet is far more than what we will get for pepe. if he wasnt going already then he is now because he will be no 2.
its sad that we are losing players simply because of what they earn  :help
maybe he could end up being a gunner by the end of the window  :eyebrow

Ok - bring in Borini who has scored once in the prem - the point is exactly the same - if Suarez goes we need to replace him - we can't go into a season with just Sturridge and Borini as our strikers

It's interesting how Sky seems to add 2 million pound premium on every signing we make.

Mignolet -  BBC says 9, Sky says 11 to 12
Alberto - BBC says 6.8, Sky says 8, 10?
Aspas - BBC says says 7, Sky says 10 million euros ~ 8.6 million pounds

Does sky include performance bonuses or are they just simply guessing? My strongly held view is that they are a pile of Sh*t.
