This is a good signing!

His penmanship looks awful, but at least he looks like he's been practicing raising his tea with an elevated pinky to appease the upper class.

That DID make me laugh :D

I don't expect him to arrive - scared off by the fee

If that is the case then the owners can not complain about us not getting CL football or anything. Put in half the effort dont moan when you get half the results

Not according to Rush himself - he was quick over the first couple of yards because he was quick thinking and knew where to position himself. He got himself in the right place before a defender.

Higuain isn't slow nor is he lighting but he scores goals - regulary and at the top level.

are you seriously trying to tell me that ian rush wasnt quick?
anyway schevchenko scored goals too, as did morientes, crespo, vialli etc etc
scoring goals abroad doesnt mean you are going to score them here.

Read his auto bio in reference to Rush - Higuain isn't slow - he may not be Bellamy pace but he isn't slow.

Vialli and Crespo both scored goals in the prem

Schevchenko arrived too late in his career and Nando didn't work out.

You are right scoring goals abroad doesn't mean you will score in the prem but its a fair guess that he will when you look at his credentials and past record.

i dont care what his book says, i watched him every other week for a decade (over his two spells), he was lightning quick especially when he was in his 20`s.

They will have a very good idea what the Suarez outcome will be and with the money from
Carroll and other potential departures it is not unreasonable to expect the club to go that extra
mile for players they really want, the key pieces.

I appreciate the club want the right deal but you cant always get it, but if you need the player
you have to reach out for it and take at least some risk.

With so many names linked my only fear is that once again FSG and Ayre will upset targets and
other clubs with their penny pinching and we miss out on some cracking players because of it.

I hope I am wrong because in general I like some of the players we are being linked with but
the two contentious ones will be this Armenian lad and the Greek centre half who you would
imagine would both be key components in our team going forward.

The key signings are the lad from Greece and Henrik - forget the kids and unproven players - we need the quality to really push us on. Without those quality arrivals then we stand still.

The next 4 weeks are crucial to us

yeah i agree, papadopolous and mkhitaryan are the type of players that can go straight into the first team and stay there just like luis did himself two and a half years ago. thats how we will move forward and compete with the teams above us, by signing quality players like those two, not by signing squad fodder

Although some of the kids do look exciting, we need to stop fiddling around spending 4 and 6 mils for these kids and get people who can improve the first team first.

We've (probably) committed close to 7 (Aspas) + 5 (Alberto) + 3 (Atsu) + 3 (Ilori) = 18 million pounds. I think I would be feeling much better right now had we just got one person in Mkhitaryan from that money.

I must say, I'm really excited about Mkhitaryan and to a lesser extent by Alberto and hope we get them both soon. Tony Barrett just said on twitter that Alberto will have his medical on Friday.

Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin claims there has been no approach from Liverpool for in-demand midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan - but they would be willing to listen to offers.

The 24-year-old has emerged as the Reds' major transfer target this summer and reports have suggested he could be available for £22million.

Mkhitaryan set a Ukrainian league record with 25 goals last season and while Shakhtar are keen to hang onto their prize asset Palkin suggested he would be available for the right price.

"As you know, there have been too many different conversations about Henrik Mkhitaryan," he told Russian newspaper Izvestia.

"But the situation has been strongly and artificially inflated. I can say that we have had no communication from any member of Liverpool.

"Henrikh is an important player in our team. Shakhtar want to keep him but we are willing to listen and consider all proposals for his transfer.

"We have already parted with Willian and Fernandinho but the club will not just sell players.

"Soon we will also strengthen ourselves with quality players, designed to replace those who have left."

Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has set his sights on Luis Suarez as a replacement for Edinson Cavani, writes John Cross.

New Napoli coach Benitez - still a hero at the Anfield giants after leading the club to European Cup glory in 2005 - sees controversial Kop striker Suarez as the perfect replacement for hot property Cavani.

Benitez is resigned to losing Cavani, wanted by Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea, but is expected to receive around £50million for the Uruguayan - and that will give him the spending power to go for Suarez, his national-team strike-partner.

However, Suarez appears to have set his sights on a move to Real Madrid himself, after making it clear he is in the mood to quit Liverpool this summer.

* LIVERPOOL have begun negotiations with Gremio with a view to signing starlet Matheus Biteco at the end of this month, writes Ed Malyon.

The 17-year-old midfielder was part of the Brazil team that won this year’s prestigious Toulon tournament, and did enough to convince the Reds to finally make their move after following his progress for the last 12 months.

Brazilian rules prevent players being sold to overseas clubs until they are 18, but with Biteco’s birthday falling on June 28 there are no longer any red tape issues that would prevent his transfer.

The youngster - full name is Matheus Betancourt da Silva - has not yet played in a national championship game for Gremio, but impressed in Brazil’s state championships in February and March.

Liverpool have previous with Gremio, having bought Lucas Leiva from the Porto Alegre outfit in 2007.

I assume BR is aware that only 11 people can play in a football team, it appears he thinks its 211? Either that or he's singlehandedly trying to increase the population of Liverpool?
