yes it`s risky selling your best players but unlike that time when we sold torres, alonso etc we do have a bit of a saftey net with coutinho and sturridge, they have shown that they can do a very good job at this level (danny`s strike rate is actually better than luis).
so even worst case scenario if we do waste the money we will still be reasonably competative.
getting £40m-£50m for luis (who will be 27 next season) and reinvesting it in the team might just be the smart thing to do, it`s not often you can sell a top player and know you have someone already in place who can do a good job.

I believe him.  if he stayed another year he'd still try his best - it's his character, he's a fighter. I cannot see him sulking petulantly like a certain Fernando Torres did for the best part of 18 months on a football pitch.

I'd wait if possible til he returns, it seems that whenever he goes to Uruguay he's always saying something and it gets twisted, blown out of proportion, rang through the dryer in so many different ways that each tabloid has their own interpretation on what it is he saying. He may have been more explicit this time, but I think Rodgers needs to hear this face to face even persuade him a bit before we go to any suitors and say 'show us the money'.

I don't think it's worth throwing the towel in just yet and going by the club's response, neither do they.

your right he is a fighter but he`s also the same fella that went on strike at groningen when they tried to hold him to his contract to stop him moving to ajax.
what we dont want here is a situation that rumbles on all summer like the alonso saga, madrid always leave it until the last minute which fv.cks clubs up when they try to bring in their own replacements. i dont want to see another season ruined before it starts like last year.
as far as i`m concerned he is already gone and i`m one of those who has backed him through thick and thin on these boards. he`s brought his family into the equation and started chatting $*i*e about paparazzi hassling him in liverpool, yes the national papers have been on his back but he has often commented how he enjoys life in liverpool because he doesnt get hassled. he` just saying anything now to get a move.
he was a great player for us but it`s time we parted ways.
get as much as we can for him and then do whatever it takes to bring that luis muriel in, if we get him we`ll be fine.
muriel and coutinho are our future imo.

Thinking about it now I believe Suarez is convinced that LFC let him down re the Ivanovic incident. I dont think he was happy that he was fined and publicly criticised by the club and then ordered not to appeal. In his mind he probably felt betrayed, plus the severity of the FA's ban made his mind up for him.
Add on to this the pure slaughtering he has had by the media and its understandable why he wants to leave.
Shame, but life goes on...

if he honestly has a cob on with the club because he thinks we have let him down over the ivanovic incident then he is off his fv.cking rocker.
he needs to look in the mirror if he thinks that way.

The only people who were let down by that Ivanovic incident is the club and the fans and his teammates.

It was his actions that let everyone down, it was his actions that brought shame upon the club , it was his action that made the club take the stance they did.

During Evra ordeal the club handled it very wrong , for the Ivanovic incident the handled it correctly.

If Suarez doesn't want to be criticised by the club or media or fans then he needs to stop supplying the ammunition.

Suarez wasnt the innocent party who was hard done by and should be treated kindly - he was the guilty one and was rightly punished by the club.

If he feels hard done by then the majority is of his own making. No one forced him to bite Ivanovic.

But it's once again as Phil Nulty is saying trying to deflect the real reason he is wanting to leave.

And thats why there may be hope that he calms down and realises the truth. This could just be an outpouring of frustration which he couldnt do here because he would get slaughtered by our press. Im not buying the CL argument as he knew the risks of not qualifying all through the season. He might not have been happy, who would, but I dont see it as the reason for this outburst. This is a player in his own country feeling safe in saying what he wants and getting sympathy and attention without malice.
If we play this right, and not jump on him for his mistake, then I think he could be persuaded to stay and to realise that it was partly because of his actions that we didnt make the top 4.

So don't you see that one of best players in the world wanting to play in the CL ? He gave us 2 and half seasons to try and achieve that aim and we failed. He is coming into the prime of his career and he won't want to be sat at home on a Tuesday or Wednesday night watching the best in the world playing against each other. He wants to be amongst then and he knows its highly unlikely we will be there any time soon. His best chance is moving on and getting a transfer to one of those clubs - just look at Torres or Xabi or Masher - all players who wanted to win things and play at the top - Suarez is no different

I never said he didnt want to play in the CL. Of course he does. What player wouldnt?
But he knew quite well that there was only a very slim chance of us getting 4th, yet he signed an extention to his contract and pledged he would stay even if we didnt qualify. His words (if you had the ability to change your mind set and listen) tell us that he is unhappy at his perception of what has happened OFF the pitch.
You are deliberately ignoring this or cannot grasp the concept. Either way your monotonous posts saying its all about the CL are boring and repetative.

You know you're getting old when all you can find yourself thinking is that he's too young and immature to appreciate what he has at the moment in Liverpool football club and the LFC fan base. This situation is no doubt down to agents getting in the way and trying to keep someone moving on and making money for them. It's what took Owen away from us and he ended up losing out in my opinion and it's what almost took Stevie away from us but eventually what kept him here too.

As with everyone on here, I find myself torn. I really don't want to see him go for selfish reasons, plus I think he owes the club a little more than what he appears to think he does considering. I also agree that it looks like he or someone close to him is trying to manufacture a situation out of nothing and we can't have anyone pulling a Torres or a Tevez. The old adage remains, if people don't want to be here then they can leave. We're transitioning from the last part of the era that started with the Spice Boys era and we're close to getting back to ways of people wanting to actually play for the club again. I think Brendan and Fenway are to be applauded for instilling that again as we've struggled for 20 odd years now with that.

As for us the fans, we'll have to get used to the thought of no Carra, no Stevie and no Pepe v. soon. We have to start looking ahead and putting faith on what's coming in, rather than what went before.

A final thought that is really an example of the sad state of football today, we have one player who has been idolised trying to manufacture a way out of the club and another who came in directly with him who has only pledged allegiance to the club only to find himself ridiculed, parodied and told he has no future here. To better examples you couldn't have of the situation we were in 3-4 yrs ago, the after effects of poor snap decisions and the importance of getting back to basics as we appear to be doing.

Yes he signed a new contract to allow himself to get a lot more wages and possibly add in a release clause. Players only sign new contracts that benefit themselves.

I'm pretty sure that you are not that niave to believe modern players when they declare love for clubs etc.

Again Torres and Masher etc declared their love blah and at the first chance they were gone ! What makes Suarez any different ?

He can blame the off field stuff ( of which he must take some responsibility for ) as much as wants - he is a modern footballer - experience shows me that I can take his words with a pinch of salt.

Tell you what, he's a first class trouble maker.  Biting at Ajax and here, sent off for hand ball in the world cup, the Evra incident, transfer rumours last year, this year etc... he's a pain in the feckin' ar$e really. 'High maintenance'.

We knew that from day one but he turned into a bit of a lovable rogue who was harmless with the odd simulation plus overreacting until it got serious and the club started to be harmed by his actions.

If wasnt so good a player he would have been sent away a year ago - excuses were made for him because of who good he is

Like I said after the biting incident. Sell the Fck for Parts. If we get 40++ wouldn't even blink. He is a Small club player seeing him move on might symbolize us turning the corner to becoming a bigger team. I have no doubt in my mind luis will FAIL in any serious CL ,he is a mess ,untidy ,un-clinical little genius ,everything a CL team hates. I can't believe in his short term in LFC he "Managed" to get banned from 18+ games that's insane. And you know what we are a better TEAM without him running around.

If we can get a decent 1-2 strikers/attacking forwards his memory would be quickly forgotten.

I thought you guys would be over the fact that he's leaving by now.
