End of Season clearout

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

i'd let Downing go and replace him with a winger who can

A) beat his man

and

B) cross the ball

ok, we'll lose money on him, but so what?  We are crying out for a decent winger and Downing is not it

If spearing isnt good enough he shouldnt be at a club like Liverpool. We should scare teams when they play us and with the likes of Spearing playing i think they will rub their hands together.

he wont want to go but he has to.
he just isnt good enough technically or physically to play consistently at the top level.
he does put the effort in and for that i can understand people wanting him to stay but for me its to much arm waving and feet stomping with very little effect.
its not a rash assumption im making either as he has been knocking around the 1st squad for a while now and has never looked like developing as a player that can succeed at a top club.
i hope he gets a move to a club with less pressure so he can get more playing time.

He's Danny Murphy MkII and its been obvious from the momemnt he broke into the team, a transfer waiting to happen. He should have taken growth hormones 10 years ago.

Looks like Maxi and probably Kuyt are off, though I'd be happier if Dirk stayed another season.

Pointless having Aurelio on the wage bill, even when Enrique was injured/rested we played a right back or centre back at left back instead of him.

Wilson should be loaned, I still think he has potential.

I'd sell Cole and realistically I can't see Aquilani returning now, but he has to be sold, no loans this time, otherwise he has to be told he's coming back into the squad as cover.

I want a quiet summer with just a few coming in and a few going out.

I think this is what most likely will happen, but I dont think we will be able to get rid of Cole as no club would match the contract he has with us.

Instead i can see shelvey leaving as he will find it hard to get into the team with the amount of central midfielders we will have.

looks like Kuyt is doing his best to stay at the club.

one thing for sure is we need to cut our wage bill.

I would like to see the squad trimmed to the bare bones (around 16-18) and lower the average load. Shelvey, Spearing and Adam gone. One top midfield signing in (and i mean top top signing as another average joe will ensure the status quo and us sit 7th/8th).

These are the top quality players in the squad for next season..
Reina (if still here)
Johnson (if still here)
Enrique (pre dip in form)
Agger
Skrtel
Gerrard
Lucas
Suarez (if still here)
Sterling

Adequate
Carroll (fight out with a new striker to partner Suarez)
Downing (hopefully in a 2nd season will develop a backbone)
Henderson (give him 15 mins here and there and hope he develops a lot)
Bellamy (good 4th choice striker)
Carra (past it.. still a decent back up)
Kelly (decent back up to Johnson)

(I would put Dirk in the adequate bracket but he looks certain to leave, as does Maxi. Coates meanwhile we know nothing about therefore impossible to give an assessment)

15 players is basically what we have, with some question marks among the adequates. The rest should be discarded whether its sales or (if unable to do so) loans. Its easily the weakest central midfield we have ever had.. go through any squad in the previous half century and you will find at least one top top central player (Gerrard is advanced mid before any ignoramouses respond). We have too many average joes clogging up the squad, too many bodies who aint good enough. Because Kenny spent 110million and we have got worse, i fear the owners may tighten the purse strings and make less money available. If this is the case we are f**ked, as we need the 20m calibre sigings to challenge for top 4. More average joes will see us stuck where we are. Had that 110milllion been spent on players who were worth 110million we would be looking forward to CL next season.

How can you say Sterling is top quality based on a couple of ten minute showing and then say we know nothing about Coates when the guy has made a number of starts for us ?!

As for a top top signing you forget we will struggle to sign them

You also can't go through a season with just 16 players especially when we are back in Europa

Thought everyone was being retained apart from Aurelio who is out of contract?

I mean loads should be shipped out like but if we dont have sufficient funds to
replace then they have to retain unfortunately.

Some wont fancy being retained in this team either so may well start looking
for a way out and manufacture moves to better sides.

Downing has got to go he just doesnt do the job kenny bought him for , he doesnt want to go past people get to the line and ping the ball into the box , he feels much happier giving the ball back to whoever gave to him , he's been a waste of time im afraid.

Spearing - not cutting it when the pressure is on for me

Henderson - one more season for me lets see if he can do a lucas !!

Pepe - has his time come ? looked a bit shaky for me this season.

Adams - his level has been found, not sure he's anfield quality

No you don't go through a season with 16 players Benjamin, hence you bring in quality new ones.

We have 15 players maximum who are worthy of being in a Liverpool squad (some questionables among the adequates). We then add to that with quality additions this time.

Having a squad overloaded with average impedes on the good players...it brings down the overall quality. We have an eighth place squad, and need to discard the garbage. Spearing and Shelvey fighting over a central midfield berth... thats a watershed moment of how far the club has sunk.

Giving carra that contract at the end of his career was lunacy but a contract is a contract. Not much we can do once its signed.
