Lucas is a good midfielder, but I've seen better, for starters if Alonso and Mascherano were still here, Lucas wouldn't get a look in. I do like Lucas though and we've missed him this season, but's face it, he's never going to be that creative spark that we need in midfield is he? This is where Jonjo can become a real talent in our side, we are crying out for a midfielder that can create things and make things happen. I do hope Jonjo (in time) can become that midfielder.

No ,but as a defensive midfielder I would say he is without doubt the finest in the prem .

That's not really saying a lot. How many other anchorman are there in the Premiership? Emmanuel Frimpong is one and a player whom I suspect will become a very good footballer for Arsenal in the future. How many more are there? I remember a time where you had the likes of Makelele playing in the Premier League and he was the best defensive midfielder in the League. Then we had Mascherano and lost him to Barcelona.

Shelvey has the potential to be Gerrard's natural successor as the box to box, play making midfield engine for LFC.

At 19 (or whatever he is) it is far too soon to say whether he will get there or not.  What I do know is that whenever he plays he does not look out of place in the Prem, which at his age and experience is a credit to him.

We are fortunate to have him at our club, and with the right guidance and coaching he could become world class.  I'd play him more often than not from here on in, and let him find his feet and develop next to Stevie for the few years Gerrard has left of his career.

I believe Lucas's game has evolved ten fold since his  castigation from fans and posters and  prior to his injury he was playing the best football
of his career ,in fact I would say unequivocally that prior to his injury he could have walked into any team in Europe and flourished .

Honestly has a player ever been missed through the course of a season as much as Lucas  ? because I can't recall any ,I really can't .

Ive been impressed when I have seen Jonjo playing this season.  I love the way he is always looking at tmoving the ball forward.  He seems to have good pace, strong in possession and is neat and tidy with his distribution and although we havent seen it yet in a red shirt, he was a regular scorer during his loan period with Norwich.

He does look to me to be the natural replacement for Gerrard as a box to box midfielder especially when you consider how young he is. I can see good things for Liverpool and Jonjo Shelvey
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Lucas has improved immeasurably since Rafa's last season, he's gone from strength to strength, he's shown that he's an important player to us. However to say he could walk into any European team and flourish maybe stretching it a bit. All I know is that we have been worse off this season since Lucas' departure through injury.

The only thing that's stretching mate is my patience with the failure of some fans still refusing to accept the lads quality ,and what he actually adds
to our game ...Lucas could stroll into any side in Europe and perform the job he does for the reds .

A midfield containing Shelvey, Spearing and Henderson would be excellent if
we where in the Championship but they should not be part of a Liverpool
team who's aim was to finish 4th in the Premiership.

Amusingly we are paying prob paying half a players wages to turn out for AC Milan
in the Nou Camp for the Champs League quarters because he isnt deemed up to doing
a job here.

Maybe Milan could consider improving their midfield by ousting Acqua and taking
either of the 3 mentioned, somehow I doubt it.

I am not saying the lad is a world beater, but the situation is frankly ridiculous and
an indication of how poor and bizarre Liverpool have become.

you see little bits in shelvey that suggest with the right people behind him........he could go on to replace gerrard (not saying he will, and gerrard at that age was clearly better) but little jonjo looks like he will end up very good

Yesterday was his time of coming.

I identified him as special way back when we signed him. His stature, skill and talent is now of a typical 19 year old midfielder. As i have said before there is something about him that is Gerrard-esque. For me it is him we should be looking to develop to replace Gerrard long term.

love his confidence for one so young. the goal as well was top class. people may say it was an empty net but to execute that skill of hitting it on the half volley from that far out was exemplary. really excited for the lad's future here.

also likes to put his foot in aswell which is no bad thing  :D
