Tinker, tailor...well worth a look.  An old school spy film with lots of drab men in drab coats lurking in the shadows of drab cities--none of this shakey cam and car chases, ninja-spy schlock that's been coming out recently.  If you can sit patiently and are prepared to pay attention, you'll enjoy this one.  If you need an explosion every five minutes, steer clear.

It's the same as watching football on those online streams people post before a game.

And I thought most people on here watch football on free streaming...

The thing is if it's a good movie, I always go and watch it at the big screen... the cinema experience is the best. So I am supporting the film industry, I'm just not supporting the dvd's and blurays...  :;):

Was disappointed with it Bob.

I was a fan of the original tv show but I guess trying to condense the complexities of the original TV mini series which had a run time of over 5 hours into a 2 hour movie was always going to detract from the story.

Can't believe how well this did at the Golden Globes and that it's being considered a strong Oscar contender. Probably the most over-hyped movie I've seen in many a year.

The "Plot",  George Clooneys wife is in a coma after a boating accident , Clooney mooches about with his daughters for 99% of the movies run time, the wife then dies, roll credits.

The movie btw is labled as a drama/comedy :(

I'm not even gonna give this a rating .

That was a bit harsh...

It's a decent movie especially if you are sick and tired of senseless action movies with loud sound effects... good performances by Clooney and the girl who acts as his elder daughter...

Tried to be in the vein of Cast Away, Forest Gump and Benjamin Button but wasn't as dramatic and as good as those...

I'd give it a 6/10...

Not harsh at all mate, imo the film has b'ugger all story line, zero dramatic content, the thinest degree of humour, threadbare script and average acting .

We don't all need car chases and explosions to fulfill our expectations of what constitutes a good film. I watch and average of 4 films a week and ad this movie ranks as one of the dullest I've ever seen.

I'm not saying it's a bad movie (  :D ) I'm merely expressing my astonishment at the hype surrounding the film and it's chances of picking up some Oscar awards with critics creaming themselves over Clooney's performance .

You should check out the BBC series from the 80's Bob. That and 'Smileys People' too.

Alec Guinness as George Smiley.

Much better than the recent film.

Yeah, I've never seen the mini-series but it sounds like it's well worth checking out.  I hear where you and Woof are coming from: it sounds like mini-series set the bar higher than the movie could reach.  But for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure, this film's worth a look.

Yeah, I'll check out the new film version I suppose.

BTW, the BBC made some really good mini series out of Le Carre's books. I recently got 'A Perfect Spy' on DVD. Looking forward to that one.

Slow burners, but great.

Have you seen 'The Spy Who Came in from the Cold' from the 60's? Good stuff there too.
