The trouble is he just doesn't have the players yet to suit his preferred tactics, nor does he have enough depth in the squad in terms of quality to achieve any better results than he is getting imo.
I think Carroll and Suarez replacing Torres and Babel will improve the squad in time and with Comolli/Dalglish I believe we will perform better in the transfer market than under previous regimes.
When you look through our recent lineups though it's clear the squad needs a major overhaul. The best players of Benitez's best team (2008/09) are gone (Alonso, Mascherano, Torres), as are some very decent squad players imo (Riera, Benayoun). Carragher and arguably now Gerrard are past their best. Stevie is still quality but he isn't as productive in the final third anymore, although undoubtedly playing deeper and injuries have contributed.
We no longer have a top class centre back (never mind two), we have no recognised left back capable of staying fit, we have only Gerrard in terms of top quality midfielders and we have no proper wide midfielders. Even if Dalglish got the best out of this lot we'd need a lot of luck to finish top four. So considering he took over when we were bottom half of the table I think he's done a great job in getting us into sixth position. If he can make up 7 points on Spurs now he will have done an unbelievable job.

As I was saying elsewhere, somebody like Ashley Young would be ideal in this system alongside Suarez and Carroll in front three. Dirk plays in this system for Holland and thrives, scoring twice last night to add to his recent goal spurt. In modern football you need your wide men to be able to come off the flanks and join in with the front man as much as possible.
This system also suits other players such as Glen Johnson and Steven Gerrard.

I generally agree with the overarching point of your post but I think it is worth remembering that they beat us on the strength of two penalties conceded through the boneheadedness of Kyrgiakos (1 directly, 1 indirectly)...who wouldn't have been on the pitch were it not for the injuries. So, yeah, I kind of think the injuries had a pretty substantial bearing on the result.

going by other forums fans are now spilt if he should, some dont like the football we are playing, just boot the ball up there and keep it high. some think he has got it spot on.
to start with i think he has lifted the club, but its only going to take another bad result in the next two games for even more to ask if he should be here next season.
