However you wanna disect that and just downplay his performances is up to you, but that doesn't sound like settling on anything to me. Stevie has been pretty bad for almost two years now whether people wanna admit that or not for me it's true, he's shown flashes of his brilliance but all in all he has been in bad form. Lucas has been consistently solid and has occasionally, far more often than any of our *star* players, put in top class performances against top opposition. He plays a very ugly style of football I won't deny that but he's very very effective imo. And he's still going to get better, he just isn't a flashy player and probably never will be but he's going to show up day in day out and put in a good shift.

I just can't get all his supporters and believers on this forum ,after so many games and chances he got over the years i haven't set eye on ONE good skill he has ,just ONE. Not fast enough ,not strong enough ,no skillfull enough ,not a good finishers in the air and on the ground ,his tackles are often late ,his passes have no impact on the play ,What in god's name do people see in him? The Fact Paulson is dirt poor doesn't make him our permenant solution ,he his hard working loyal player that's it. On almos the most importent position on the pitch we just can't afford of having Lucas.

can't disagree more. his best position is definitely centre mid.

i didnt think he had good season last year in fact quite the opposite.this lad cost us 12 odd mil 4 years ago and came with a lot of hype being brazilian and captain of the under 21's.he was touted as a promising attacking free flowing footballer, and imo has come nowhere near it.he has featured in over a hundred matches for us and he's had way way to many bad games to remember the good ones.
you cannot compare him to gerrard as when stevie was 23 he was ten times the player and at 25 captained a team to win the european cup.gerrard has had a fantastic lfc carreer and now he's ageing we still look for him to haul us out of the sh1t everytime and write him off when he doesent,i dont see it like that its more like now is the time for others to step up and carry the can and the truth is, if the likes of lucas upped his game we wouldnt be so heavily reliant on an ageing gerrard.
this season he has shown some progression and i think its a lot to do with the partnership of him and mereiles more than roy's influence.
i hope he continues to progress and tbh it's about time.
the idea of a brazilian that will get better at playing an ugly style of football, without any skill but will show up and put in a good old shift just doesent cut it with me and i really hope lucas amounts to better than that.
