ROY HODGSON - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby RED BEERGOGGLES » Mon Dec 13, 2010 4:49 pm

The Liverpool Echo 13th December 2010
A FRUSTRATED Roy Hodgson admits defensive errors are costing his side dearly.

The Liverpool boss was left cursing the Reds’ mistakes as they endured yet another disappointing away day with a 3-1 defeat at Newcastle.

Having seen his side claw their way back into the game following a disappointing first-half, Hodgson watched his side concede twice in the last 10 minutes at St James’ Park, to succumb to their sixth Premier League away defeat of the season.

The game’s crucial moment came ten minutes from time, as Liverpool’s defence hesitated in dealing with a long punt from Newcastle ‘keeper Tim Krul, allowing Joey Barton to nip in and net decisively.

Hodgson was visibly angered. and said: “The major problem was the second goal, which was an unbelievably bad goal to give away.

“That’s the bottom line. When you concede a goal like that, it’s going to have a major effect on the team’s confidence.

“We weren’t looking that troubled at 1-1; we weren’t exactly being smashed or bom-barded. Newcastle had not put us under massive pressure but when you concede like that, you can almost see in the faces of the players, it’s a case of ‘whoops, here we go again’.”

Andy Carroll wrapped up Newcastle’s victory with a third goal in stoppage time, to lift the Magpies above Liverpool in the table. The Reds have now taken just five points from nine away fixtures this season, and Hodgson is aware that an improvement on the road is of paramount importance, with the busy festive period approaching.

“How can we change things? You’ve just got to win; it’s as simple as that,” he said. “There is no magic formula, I’m afraid.

“You have to play better than we did in the second half – if we had played for 90 minutes in exactly the same way, and passed the ball in the same way, and kept our shape as we did in the first half, we would have had a good chance. But we didn’t.

“I thought we played well in the first-half, and I had high hopes we would continue to play well but I was disappointed with our second-half display- we let Newcastle back into the game.”

It was an all-too-familiar story on the road for Liverpool this season, as they failed to kick on after engineering a potential match-winning position, and Hodgson could not disguise his frustration afterwards, admitting that his side’s continuing travel sickness was likely to disturb his sleep over the next few days.

“I came into this job to try and win every game,” he said, “I can’t say it’s harder or easier than I thought – I just need to keep working hard. It’s the job I signed on to do.

“You find me a football manager who’s worthy of his sword, who doesn’t wake up in middle of night after matches, and I’ll give you a good headline.”

Hodgson, who saw young striker David Ngog taken off with a head injury which should rule him out of Wednesday’s Europa League tie with FC Utrecht, also revealed that skipper Steven Gerrard, absent with a hamstring strain over the past three weeks, should be fit to return for next week’s clash with Fulham at Anfield.

“It will be great to have him back, but even he could not have done anything about the second goal,” he said, “And that is what is going to haunt me when I ride home tonight, and when I wake up in the middle of the night. That has cost us any chance of getting anything.”

Whoops here we go again ???   ...... at least the manager is starting to join us fans in having restless nights ,although I'm not sure I've seen many managers brandishing swords ....Knights yes ...Managers no ...but keeping with the knights theme maybe Roys Holy Grail is now to find the secret to winning away ....over to you Sir Loseawayalot....

The majority of us are not interested in your bile. It is unbalanced, boring and extremely repetitive. You have no answers. Just who would you replace RH with? The extent of your imagination will no doubt run to suggesting Dalglish!

I dont give two sh!ts if I insult him, hes insulting my club by being here, The truth hurts doesnt it, thats why you and the other Roy lovers cant handle it !!!

I think Ill stay around thanx to tell people the truth about the manager !!!

So who on here are Roy lovers then becuase I can't think of anyone? I do however see some people who choose to be loyal to the current manager and give him a chance, which I thought was the espoused Liverpool way.

That having been said I want to see the back of Roy as well but I do think he has got the team playing a lot better than at the start of the season, although that is not saying much.

I wouldn't say roy lovers .i'd certainly say roy apologists though . As for it not being the liverpool way ,blah diddy blah . The liverpool way went out of the window about three or so years ago . Since that time we've had our own players booed , managers booed and infighting amongst supporters , our dirty laundry aired in public and so on .
Now if Liverpool had appointed Ron atkinson or dave bassett in the summer there would have been holy murder . Hodgson is made in the same mold i'm afraid . We can all see he's not the right man for the job , he's done absolutely nothing to warrant our support . None of us are stupid we can all see it's not working .There's not a glimmer that it might work and we could all be wrong and over reacting . He needs to go and we need to get somone in who will help restore the liverpool way because hodgson ain't that man . 35 years of his football tells us all we need to know.

What do you do to voice your anger at the manager ? The way it was done in the past was to remove your support by not turning up or by sitting in silence . That is happening to an extent now at anfield ,but the poor away fans are getting a good shafting by the manager and his team . It's them that are the most vocal and most anti roy and i don't blame them one bit .

We need a change , we can all see a mistake was made by employing a journeyman to seady the ship , because the ship is  sinking into a sea of mediocrity . The captain is sailing in the wrong direction and unless there is a mutiny to take us to safety we will all drown and be happy watching negative hoof ball .
UP THE PURPS !!!

I wish Igor and Ciggy would get a room preferably in Benidorm until the end of the season. I doubt that they can get anymore tedious but I am sure they will prove me wrong. What about some solutions instead of the same endless boring facts together with a piece of paper that says nearly as little as the person that posted it!

I want us to be in the top 4 as much as the next red, but it pains me to see people acting like Newcastle fans and slating the manager with petty insults. To me, it's like when 'fans' boo the team at Anfield. It's not the Liverpool way.

The new owners will be watching Roy and i'm sure you'll get your wish soon enough. But it has to be with a long term replacement...another short term measure will not work

Surely you must admit that it only makes sense to sack a manager if you are after someone better ? Why in gods name then would you sack the last manager if you don't have a better replacement to take over ? Why sack him if there was no one else interested in the job .Why sack him if Roy hodgson is your only choice ? Surely that is incompetence on the part of the directors ,No!

Rafa lost the plot and HAD TO GO. Look at the f**k up he's made of Italy's best football team. You think we would be better off with him and his HUGE EGO here? Then there's the rumours about the fact he lost the dressing room...we'll never know if this is true...However, it's been like history repeating at Inter...Rafa cracks up in a press conference and his team suffers as a result. Again, he has to go,only this time its Inter...

Now, moving away from Rafa, tell me how LFC moves forward, and for god's sake don't tell me KK because last time i checked it wasn't 1989

We are not Roy lovers and you are possibly even more deluded than I have previously given you credit for if you think that. We were simply prepared to give RH a chance. You started insulting him, soon after his appointment, before a ball was even kicked.
Everybody is fully aware that RH was not the ideal solution but some of us were decent enough to give the man some time considering just what he had to walk into. His first tasks were persuading Gerrard and Torres to stay and complete the sale of Mascherano. The club was in complete and utter disarray and you very naively seem to think that somebody was going to walk in with a magic wand and immediately make a massive difference.

You never come up with any sensible solutions. You just moan and whinge incessantly and bore everybody to death.

If Hodgson should be sacked for his performance would you take the same action towards a certain individual who's team is 7th in Serie A and even more points away from the top of the table than RH. That is some achievement with a treble winning side in a very weak league.

Do us a favour and just go. You obviously post on lots of forums. They maybe interested in your garbage but were not!

I don't think anyone apart from the Rafa-haters were expecting Hodgson to walk in with a magic wand. Don't forget, it was the previous manager that had lost it and had no idea when it came to man-management, and Roy, with all his charisma and experience, would have the team playing to its full potential.

'Never under estimate the power of motivation.'

Such a shock, then, that the masterstroke of replacing a World-class manager with a mediocre one who was sold to us as a good motivator has resulted in such gutless cack on the field. But then, that'll be Rafa's fault as well. :no

I'm not stalking you! I just want you to go away with all your incredibly boring drivel. I just pity the poor sod that has to sit next to you at a game!

As you rightfully say I know nothing about you or your family. Got to say my mind picture though isn't good and you only have yourself to blame for that!

Oh well i"m off on another sabbatical. Thought you had p.issed off for good and it was the only reason I decided to give the forum another go as common sense had returned without your constant flaming. You have the ability to single handedly bring this forum down to the level of five year olds and very dim five year olds at that!

Happy Christmas to all the more reasonable and fair minded members of this forum who still believe that the Liverpool way does exist.

Ciggy acts like a spoilt brat. She stamps her feet and screams in the hope that she'll get her way. tough sh!t love, our club is in a rebuilding process and we'll not be winning stuff until things have been fixed.

If that means getting a new manager, then so be it. But it will be done properly and over time with the RIGHT PEOPLE, and not on knee jerk decisions. Go and support Newcastle if you want things done otherwise.
