I know exactly how good he is and I was annoyed we let him go on loan as thought he would have a great season for us but the management thought different - another mistake - but there is nothing that can be done now . He is gone .

When you mean ''management'' whom do you mean exactly?

I don't know which part of the management let him go - no one does - it could of been the manager or Purslow - whoever did it , it was another mistake that was made during the summer

Spot on Kev regarding the fact that only positive results can turn the fans on Roy's side...

*******************************
ESPN analyst Kevin Keegan is one of English football's most respected figures and he will be writing for ESPNsoccernet throughout the season. As a player, Kevin represented Liverpool with distinction, winning numerous titles in domestic and European football, and was twice named European Footballer of the Year during his time at Hamburg. Kevin has managed England, Newcastle United, Manchester City and Fulham and is one of the most respected voices in the English game.

Roy Hodgson contemplates another damaging result after losing to Stoke

• Liverpool v West Ham preview

Roy Hodgson has struggled to meet the increased level of expectation that comes with managing a club the size of Liverpool, and even though he has plenty of valid excuses, the only thing that will lead Liverpool and Roy through their current troubles is results. Actions will have to speak louder than words over the next few months.

There is no doubt that Roy Hodgson has had a very difficult job to do at Liverpool. After all, the club was in chaos when he went there because of the ownership problem. But the fans have been on his back when chanting Kenny Dalglish's name - most recently in the defeat to Stoke City last weekend - and that is very difficult to hear for a manager. Roy will have to deal with that and accept it.

The situation at Anfield is undoubtedly complex. Kenny said he wanted to replace Rafa Benitez over the summer and for whatever reason he was passed over for the job by the board. A legend amongst the fans, he now remains at the club and his shadow looms large. Roy is an experienced manager but at big clubs you are exposed to a wider range of pressures than you would be at a club like Fulham. He may have been disappointed to hear the chants but fans are entitled to do what they want - they have paid their money. Supporters will have their say and you cannot put words in their mouth.

What you must do is win the fans over and that is the job of everyone at Liverpool FC. It starts with the owners and it runs through to Roy. The only way he can improve his standing in the long term is to secure positive results. That is how he became a favourite of Fulham fans, but what constitutes a good result at Fulham is not always the same as at Anfield. Fulham's level of expectation is lower, and managing Liverpool is another ball game entirely.

The lack of ambition shown by Liverpool on the pitch this season has also been a little bit surprising. You can't just blame Roy Hodgson - they have had this problem for a few years - but the same problems are persisting. Under Benitez they played two defensive midfielders in Javier Mascherano and Lucas, and Hodgson has replaced Mascherano with Christian Poulsen. These players are capable of winning the ball but they are not particularly gifted in terms of creativity. While Gerrard can obviously provide chances for Torres, the other important outlet is Glen Johnson and it looks as though he has had a falling out with Roy Hodgson. Liverpool's best players are up front, Gerrard and Fernando Torres, and they are the match-winners so you shouldn't have any fear in supporting them with positive players if possible.

Liverpool have a whole catalogue of players who are not any better than the ones they have replaced - they are similar players, just with different names. The Liverpool squad is full of average Premier League performers, and below average in some cases. As such, I don't foresee a terrific season ahead for my former club. Not even the most fanatical Liverpool fan is looking at finishing in the top four this season - it isn't going to happen. By Liverpool's standards they are in turmoil, and they are a long way from where they want to be, but they will still finish fairly high up the league and the fans will keep behind them, even if they will be disgruntled at times, because that's what Liverpool fans do.

“ What you mustn't do as an international manager is damage players for their clubs ”
  Keegan on Gerrard

Roy will need his best players fit over the season but we learned on Thursday that Gerrard will be sidelined for up to a month having sustained an injury when representing England against France. The news infuriated Liverpool's medical team, and what you mustn't do as an international manager is damage players for their clubs because they will make it difficult for you in future. The demands of club and international football do not fit hand-in-hand - when I was manager of Newcastle I would have 15 players travelling all over the world and you would be concerned about the condition they would return in - but when they are picked for England, they are England players.

The manager has to handle them how he thinks fit and as England manager you cannot satisfy everyone. If Sir Alex Ferguson rings you up and asks you not to play his player for more than 60 minutes then the next thing you know is that Liverpool hear that and make similar demands. It is farcical. If they are deemed to be fit then clubs shouldn't have any say in it, but it is a very complex and difficult situation.

Fernando Torres has thrown his weight behind Roy Hodgson’s troubled Anfield reign and insisted the entire Liverpool squad are backing their under-fire manager.
The striker spoke out on the eve of today’s critical home game with West Ham and denied suggestions of a dressing-room split.
Reacting to claims that elements of Liverpool’s foreign contingent had already lost faith in Hodgson, and that they felt Benitez should have been kept on, Torres delivered a ringing endorsement of the former Fulham boss.

The squad here trusts in Hodgson and so do I,’ Torres told a Spanish radio station.

‘It is not simple to begin a project with a different coach in a club where it is required to fight for every competition. You have to adapt to new ways to create a winning team and that is never easy.
‘The team are reacting. Not everything has gone as well as we hoped, but if we can put three wins together in a row then the team will be at the right end of the table and we will be more relaxed and play better.

‘I have no problem with Hodgson. He’s a very serious coach who in the summer explained to me very clearly what he wanted from me. He has always trusted in me and that’s very important for any footballer.
‘Although he was here a long time, the (Rafa) Benitez phase at Liverpool is already history. It belongs to the past and now only the present is important to us.
‘For us, football is the only thing we can think about at the moment. We are not as high in the table as we want to be.
'So we need to put space between ourselves and the others. I’m sure we’ll do that and then we can start to look up.

It seems he has strong support from senior players and the owners. This needs to be transferred onto the pitch and maybe fans will support him too...?

Politically correct comments do not neccessarily equate to strong support though... Roy is the boss and I wouldn't expect Torres or any other senior players to say anything else besides getting behind the current boss...

Afraid of upsetting your next empolyers arewe Roy .

Roy Hodgson has refused to stir up Steven Gerrard row | Football | The Guardian

Roy Hodgson declined to enter the row over Steven Gerrard's hamstring injury yesterday after the Liverpool captain urged him to draw a line under Fabio Capello's costly decision to persist with the midfielder against France.

Liverpool expect to be without their influential captain for four weeks after he suffered a hamstring tear in the 84th minute of England's friendly defeat on Wednesday, despite a pre-match agreement between Franco Baldini, the general manager, and Damien Comolli, Liverpool's new director of football strategy, that he would play only an hour.

Hodgson called Darren Burgess, Liverpool's head of fitness and conditioning, naive and foolish for the Twitter outburst that labelled England and the Football Association amateurish and incompetent in the immediate aftermath of Gerrard's injury. However, after a personal intervention from Gerrard, the Liverpool manager refused to reveal his true feelings on the matter, other than to say he was "disappointed and a bit angry" and did not expect an apology or a call from Capello.

"My interest is Liverpool FC and Steven Gerrard is very much an important part of that," Hodgson said. "When I spoke to him this morning he was at pains to say to me: 'Don't prolong this debate, please say as little as you can and be as diplomatic as you can, I know how you feel.' He feels, like me, that it's a sad thing to have happened and he's very disappointed about it, but he doesn't want to give even more reasons for a debate to rage.

"I respect that and secondly I understand it's going to happen and there's going to be debate and discussion about the value of friendly matches. I'm not stupid, I just don't think it's a good thing for me to get involved in, especially in this situation."

Gerrard has already begun rehabilitation work to recover within four weeks. "He doesn't accept for one minute that this will take a month," said his manager. Though Liverpool remain privately aggrieved at Capello's handling of the issue, and the FA has confirmed its insurers will reimburse the club for Gerrard's wages while he is sidelined, Hodgson said there is little to be gained by prolonging the dispute.

"You have to accept when there are midweek international games and your players are called up that it's a fear you always have. I don't know that I'm being diplomatic, I'm simply refusing to prolong a debate. Our fitness coach, Darren, in his naivety and his frustration was foolish enough to voice an opinion on a Twitter page and that's led to these two days of vitriol and I think it's time that it stopped.

"I can do nothing about Steven's injury, he can do nothing, it's a fact of life and we've got to live with it. I'm just determined to focus on a very important game against West Ham."

Liverpool's central midfield options against West Ham have also been reduced by an ankle injury to Jay Spearing and the suspension of Lucas Leiva following his dismissal at Stoke last weekend. That 2-0 defeat prompted more calls for Kenny Dalglish to replace Hodgson as manager, but the man chosen to succeed Rafael Benítez as manager this summer claimed the antagonism has been fuelled by the media rather than anaemic performances.

"I am not getting into the fans. If I am to be frank, the way you have been writing has made my position a lot worse than the fans," Hodgson said. "You can take that as you want. Every time I speak to you about fans, you seem to have a complete monopoly on how every fan thinks. How many of them? There will always be a certain number of people who wanted a different manager and are probably still unhappy they did not get that manager.

"I have every faith in Liverpool fans. Every manager who has come to this club has been well supported by the fans. Every manager has gone through periods where the team has not achieved what the fans would like them to achieve, so I have no fears in that respect. I understand that they are not happy but we are in a position where if I were a fan I wouldn't be either."

Fernando Torres, meanwhile, has said Hodgson retains the full support of the Liverpool squad and that he has no personal issue with the manager. In an interview with a Spanish radio station, the striker said: "The squad here trusts in Hodgson and so do I. It is not simple to begin a new project with a different coach in a club where it is always required to fight for every competition.

"You have to adapt to new ways to create a winning team and that is never easy. I have no problem with Hodgson. He's a very serious coach who in the summer explained to me very clearly what he wanted from me. He has always trusted in me and that's very important for any footballer."

You actually being serious with this one ?

He has clearly stated that Gerrard wants this putting to bed.

Its obvious that Stevie doesnt want to be at the centre of a club v country row as he probably still wants to be captain when Ferdinand is next injured.

Simple as that.

Oh yes the old "use the theory to fit what youre saying" trick
So when Torres, Reina or anyone else is quoted in the papers or on sh'ite sports news criticising Hodgson its taken as gospel, but when they support him its because they have to?
Brilliant

He stated that he isnt happy and that he thought it was the wrong move.
What more do you want ?

He cant turn back time and make Capello take him off earlier, its happened now.
He has condemned England for it but that's about all he can do.
It's another OTT snipe that there is no grounds whatsoever for.
Its fair enough pulling him for decision making with the team selections and tactics but these little digs are not justified at all.
