Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby tubby » Mon Nov 15, 2010 12:34 pm

I think given the current situation we have to assess things in the long term. We have new owners who want us to be challening the best teams in the country again within the next 5 years. Presumably a considerable amount of money needs to be spent over that period both on and off the pitch. All we have heard so far this season is give him time, he will come good. But to be fair our best results this season have been a result of flashes of brilliance from either Gerrard or Torres, something we have seen plenty of before.

The question you need to be asking yourself is do you really think the current manager is someone you can see being kept around for the next 5 years? Put yourself in John Henry's position. If this was your invesment and you had seen what we had seen for the first 10/15 games. If you had taken into context the managers past and what he had done so far here what would you do? I would cut my losses now and make a swift change rather than wait till the 60 game mark with my fingers crossed to see if things take a turn for the better.

And to be honest the way I see it, anyone saying give him time is doing just that. We have not seen anything in the mans past to lead us to believe he can really do better. The gaffes, the tactical blunders, I haven't seen anything that insipires me to persevere with the man. I'm not slating him but I just don't think he is good enough.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

more to the pint  think ROY is trying to say, back f give me a chance i trying to work this out.

for me, after thinking of how the club was set up when he came here and the money he was given to spend i am not shocked what has happend.

am i happy Roy is our manager.......hard to say. i seen good in him and the bad in him.

but untill we have a full fit team he can pick from its hard to beat the guy over the head as much as i have done in thelast few weeks, so iam going to try and cool what i say about him and just see what happens over the next 5 games or untill he has a full line up to pick from.

i hope i am not going too soft on him lol

Please tell me what the good is, I just can't figure it out and I hate puzzles. And also please tell me about all these injuries, who would that be?

Look at it a different way:

I dont mind losing 10 games this season, with the right manager, the team giving 100% and the club (manager + players) trying different formations, ideas, tactics etc.. and the fans backing their efforts

But to lose games with the current atmosphere of incompetence, 'dont care' and a manager out of his depth is unacceptable.

And yes, I blame Purslow, sacking Rafa 3-4 months before the new owners took over and bringing in RH was crazy. If the new owners wanted Rafa out then fine, no problem, but change for the sake of it just before they sold the club....  and people were actually saying the 'new owners' (who werent in the frame until the last moment) wanted Rafa out..... Its set our club back 3-4 years.

Roy keeps saying he needs time for his ideas to start to take effect. Surely , if that were the case we would be seeing small improvements as each week goes by. The fact that we're not is a cause for concern.

I didn't want Roy as our manager , purely because I didn't think he was up to the job. I was however prepared to give him a chance , indeed I really hoped he proved me wrong , but it's just not happening.

I can't see things getting any better , if I thought they could , I'd back him , I just worry what the consequences will be come the end of the season if we stick rather than twist.

Even if there were no results on the field, the players body language and brighter attitude would demonstrate growing confidence.

what "ideas"? ???

i don't remember it being this bad since souness. when we lost at stoke i was pretty much apathetic to it. normally i'm livid for a while straight after defeat but on saturday i just accepted it as the norm and moved on. it's what i've come to expect at the moment.

Exactly !
The body language just gets worse.

There is nothing on or off the pitch that suggests that things are on the up , and there is certainly a lack of confidence !

I have no idea what his ' Ideas ' are , I just know he says he has them and they'll take time to take effect.

dis-illusioned at the moment.

dont think he can pull us out of this to be honest, and i dont think he is the right man to command respect from top top players if he gets his wishes and signs some in the future.

i just dont see him being able to change a game tactically, or provide players with a necessary kick up the ar$e to improve their game. and the demands will only increase if we do find our way somehow nearer the top of the table.

if he stays, ill support him as he is at Liverpool Football club...and i will hope to god he can turn it around. but thats all it will be...hope.

Roy is just shedding his responsibility and making excuses. He really is out of ideas as he knows feck about modern football. And you know what, what really frustrates me is that he honestly think he is doing a good job and being in the mid table is the best he could muster. I will accept the current position if our team has the same players as Fulham. But hello, we have a team full of internationals and we are already out of the carling cup and now the league. Can't anyone see where are we heading right now? The direction under Roy is simply wrong and I think this team is much better than the team Rafa inherited when he took over initially. Look what Rafa did. Whether the change is justified or not we need to do something to light a fire. SOmeone with creative ideas and able to motivate the players (doesn't necessary to be a big name manager). Our Owner is no fool and he probably has his plan started somewhere. In JH I trust!!

Reggie Im not going to argue about whether the previous manager should have gone regardless because weve been over that so many times.
What Id like you to explain, just for clarity, is what you mean by: "the current atmosphere of incompetence" who exactly do you think:  "dont care" and why you think the manager is "out of his depth" please.
