ROY HODGSON - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I think the game on Saturday is going to be significant if we don't win it. We are six weeks off the January window, and I think if the new owners get sufficient excuse to do so they will sack Roy. I think they'd rather they didn't have to because sacking managers/selling on the players they brought inis never easy from a financial standpoint, but given we have a mountain to climb in terms of rebuilding, we might as well start sooner rather than later.

we'll beat west ham because they are truly woeful, even by our pathetic standards this season. we'll lose away at spurs though, and probably lose badly so we'll be back to square one.

by hodgson's latest comments today i think he already knows that his days are numbered.

Yes i think he knows he's a goner now, difficult times ahead if NESV get the next managerial appointment wrong I worry about the future of the club.

And they need to worry about their investment they must get this decision right and the next man that comes in needs to wield the axe on this current squad of players scouse, english or foriegn. Tough decisions need to be made.

Hodgson will accept to lose his job

« on: Today at 08:49:04 AM »Quotehttp://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6509029,00.html

Roy Hodgson insists he will continue to give his best for Liverpool, but will accept any decision to hand the manager's job to somebody else.

Liverpool appeared to have shown signs of recovering from a poor start to the season when last week's 2-0 success over Chelsea made it three Premier League wins in a row.

However, the Reds followed up a midweek draw at Wigan Athletic by going down to a 2-0 defeat at Stoke City on Saturday to place fresh question marks over Hodgson's future.

The travelling support at the Britannia Stadium chanted the name of Kenny Dalglish and Hodgson was aware of the clamour for the Kop legend's return to the hot seat.

Hodgson, though, is adamant it will take time to produce consistent results with his current squad and is determined to fight on in the job he only accepted in the summer.

Frustration

"If the club decide they want to give the job to somebody else, then I'll have to accept that, if that day comes," said Hodgson

"We are short of players, as everyone knows and we don't have so many options.

"The fans can chant for whoever they want and it will be up to the club to decide what they want to do.

"There is nothing I can do about it and I can only continue to do the best job I can do under these circumstances."

He added: "I can't get upset every time the fans chant someone's name and furthermore, we have millions of fans.

"Maybe the travelling fans are showing their frustration because we've lost, they are entitled to do that.

"Fans make their frustrations felt every time we lose, but unfortunately they may have to do that a few more times, because I can't see us going through a season winning every game."

he hasnt given up completely yet. I read a quote something about he judges himself on 55-60 games, not  a handful but he seriosuly needs to mix things up if he wants the chair for longer than til january.

We're not the type of club to chop and change managers but its getting to the point where fans are fighting amongst themselves too so he needs to change things and we have to win our next game

And we will, we will beat the hammers and get mullered everywhere by Spurs one step forward two steps back.
What do you do? Continue with this or sort it out immedialty?

We don't know that yet... I actually think we have more chance against spurs, it seems our mentality lately... but compared to the first 1 games i think its more 2 forward 1 back at the moment, which seems the same for half the clubs in the league

That's ironic as he actually said "judge me after 10 games".

Anyway all I care about is that we get 3 points against West Ham as Spurs is going to be a tough game.

My honest opinion is it would be better to get rid sooner rather than later.

Like you said we probably will beat West Ham but arent going to pick up enough points away from home (like last season) the way we are setting out.
We seem to have a manager that is using the exact same set up as what failed miserably away from home as last season.
The 1-0 away to Bolton was achieved with these tactics but theose results will be few and far between.
Even the europa league away games have been the same, granted with the kids so not bad results but still the same approach.
I seriously cant remember the last time away from home we decided to give it a go.
We did win 4-0 at Burnley nearer the end of last season but last season like this was shocking the way we set out and approached games that were not at Anfield.

I'd happily be judged after 60 games (2 seasons?) when we're playing appalling after 5-10-15 games as thats a few million in the bank isnt it? Lets be cynical for a moment, this is Roy's 'big one' isnt it, why get off the gravy train??

i think you just have to look at sunderland yesterday to see how having the right mentality can pay dividends. i'm no fan of steve bruce believe me, but would we under hodgson ever have dared to go to stamford bridge and play two upfront?

sunderland went there and were positive and got their just rewards. i thought they were superb. they had 19 shots away from home against the champions. we struggle to create a decent chance away from home.

He means one season.
38 league games and however many in the cups.
I think we already played 8-9 cup games and are looking like going to the next round in the europa league.

That word again. That word which seems destined to haunt Roy Hodgson’s reign as Liverpool manager, however long it lasts. That word which has come to sum up all of the fears and furies of the club’s supporters, that word which will greet each of the club’s defeats this season. “Dalglish.”
To the Liverpool fans who cried for the return of their king as they watched their side fall to a limp, lifeless defeat at Stoke City, in his name lies salvation.
Dalglish used to be a paean. Now he is their prayer. In reality, though, the problem facing their club’s new owners, New England Sports Ventures, is not as simple as a mere coronation. They face an election. They must decide whether to stick or twist.

Hodgson appeared to acknowledge as much in his comments in the aftermath of what was not simply Liverpool’s fifth league defeat of the season, but an unacceptably meek surrender to Tony Pulis’s buoyant, bullish side.
“The fans can chant for whoever they want,” the 63 year-old said. “And it will be up to the club to decide what they want to do. There is nothing I can do about it. If the club decide they want to give the job to somebody else, then I’ll have to accept it.”
It is a statement almost as obvious as it is stark. Yet it encapsulates neatly the decision John W Henry and the his colleagues at NESV find laid at their door less than a month after they completed their £300 million takeover.
The club, as Hodgson says, can do what they want. There would be no great outcry if the former Fulham manager was handed his gold watch and thanked for his services. After all, Liverpool’s fate, without change, seems clear.
“Fans make their frustrations felt every time we lose a game,” Hodgson said. “Unfortunately they may have to do that a few more times this season, because I can’t see us going through a season winning every single game.”
Stick with Hodgson, and Liverpool will endure a season of toil, each victory offering only fleeting respite and each defeat punctuated by that word again, not so much for the results as the performances. mid-table anonymity awaits a club that does not accept mediocrity.
The Britannia provided the perfect paradigm. Liverpool’s squad is not as poor as accepted wisdom maintains, but what is most glaringly lacking is any sort of plan. Whereas, in the victory over Chelsea last week, the most deceptive of false dawns, they attacked with width and verve, here they appeared to attempt to mimic their hosts.
Stoke, though, are rather better at being Stoke than any impostor. They harried and hustled, dominated aerially and earned their reward, Ricardo Fuller prodded home the scrappiest of openers, the imperious Kenwyne Jones stroked home a rather more refined injury-time clincher.
Liverpool, in contrast, offered nothing, their imitation flattering but failing. And to make matters worse, Lucas was sent off late on for a needess hack. The player may be interested to know that Hodgson was last night watching Rennes’ defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila.
Yet for all his troubles, twisting, dispensing with Hodgson, may be unappealing to NESV. Attracting a manager mid-season is hardly ideal. His replacement may fare no better, and there is little appetite for creating problems when already NESV must deal with concerns over the futures of Fernando Torres, who will have a hamstring strain assessed by Spain’s medical team this week, Pepe Reina and now Glen Johnson, reportedly unsettled by Hodgson’s comments on his poor form.
It would be rather apt should Hodgson keep his job more for what he is not –
