From the very beginning, the people who explained (away) Rafa's team's performances generally in terms of anything but the manager - the players, Gerrard, the owners/Parry/Purslow - the "malaise" affecting the team etc.. - now explain our failure to perform in terms of the manager and him alone. That's the difference and it's plain hypocrisy - and nor is it confined to on-the-pitch matters. The same "principled" people who complained about such things as the "patronising" way in which a TV reporter would address the manager in a post-match press conference, are the same people who say of the incumbent, "f'uck off", "keep your mouth shut", "tw@t". The same people who - in the time of the last manager - accused the media of conducting a witch hunt now readily lap up their offerings. Whereas they would play down a Rafa gaffe and Rafa rant, they pounce on each and every one of Roy's utterances that isn't quite acceptable. The worst kind rip into his character and his mannerisms - they will use anything to discredit not only the man's abilities but the man himself. That's when it becomes 100% inevitable that there will be a new manager and I find it a total disgrace.

I disagree LFC2007...what "is" undeniable about Woy is his gaffes in the transfer market; his miserable, nay "despicable" away record; his nonsensical comments before the game (Man City, for example - hoping we didn't get slaughtered ? give me a bleedin' break - what a loser's attitude); his lack of passion on the sideline; etc...etc....
I do not feel sympathy for the man and point the finger squarely at the powers that be for appointing him. He WAS not and IS not the man to bring this club back from the brink. He never was. He never will be.

The thing that is annoying me is that anyone who criticises the manager immediately gets lumped in with people who abuse and insult him - I critisize him where I think he has got things wrong and because of that I get accused of abusing him and disrespecting him . I haven't told him to feck off , nor joined in with the owl business , nor called him this or that - yes I called him woy early stages but IMO that was just light hearted which IMO people overreacted too . I don't believe he is good enough a manger to manage us or improve us , I believe he sets up with mid table mindset because that is how he has always done it and he won't change , I don't like many things he has said to the press and I don't rate the majority of players he has bought and I don't like his tactics and set up but that is being critical of him NOT abusing him or insulting so please stop putting everyone in the same bracket .

Generally managers are in the press and on TV if they are making a complete pig's michael of their job. Ergo, Roy, they are all over you.
Solution ?

I'm not going to be critical of Roy.......his players have let him down, tactics possibly not right at times, deals with the press not brilliant..... but it was never going to be easy

still I'm sitting on the fence for now because the Royalists will be after me otherwise!

You were as critical of Rafa as you are Roy, so I don't count you as a hypocrite, bungle. Those who used to harp on about respect, principles and such like though are a different kettle of fish. I share your deep concerns about the manager but perhaps where we diverge is in the way we express those concerns - for my part, that is hopefully without compromising the values one associates with Liverpool supporters. I feel there's some value in being different in the way we behave to the way other supporters behave, particularly in times of crisis. You can be frank about the way we're playing without compromising those values. The hypocrites, by definition, have a selective take on that issue.

1/3 of the season played, plenty of time for Roy to prove what he's about. He's proven he's a mid tier manager and he's happy with that. Liverpool fans aren't. End of.

i dont give a s.hit what anybody thinks. Hodgsons well out of his depth. I know it,the board know it and you people here know it. If anybody thinks he,s doing ok, PLEASE visit your nearest walk in centre ASAP because you seriously need medical help. Time to go Roy. You were never, or NEVER will be a bona fide LFC manager. You are a nice man, but for the sake of the club and your reputation RESIGN NOW

I agree, there is a clear difference between insulting the man for who he is and what he is like as compared to the absoulate mess we are in at the moment. You will find only a small amount of idiots calling him names and carrying on like monkeys, there is no need for that but the rest of us which is probably the whole fan base can see he just isn't good enough, never was and never will be.

Yet another foul, stinking, miserable performance, which obviously the players are at fault for as well, but everyone has sadly realised that Roy can not survive much longer in his role. Bring on January with new blood and a new manager, he has to go, this is just laughable.

People seem to be pleading the club lowers its standards to fit in with Roy's ability.

Always used to be the other way round.

He doesnt work now, nor will in 3-6-12 months. My main concern are 2-3 key players throwing their hands in before the club moves him on.

Hi,

I didn't get the privalidge of watching us play tonight.

I would just like to add my two pence worth to this discussion regarding our manager.

I thought we'd gone a little stale under Rafa and a change was needed (does this put me into a group where I'll now be scorned upon?).

Hodgson was appointed, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and the respect his position at Liverpool FC deserves.

To summarise: Our start under him has been poor, there are no two ways about it. I don't believe the players are as bad as some have made out, I believe it's his methodologies that are making us look like a poor side. Of course we could do with some quality new players too but every team always says that. I think he's got just about enough talent at his disposal to get this side sitting 'up there' in the league.

To re-iterate, I thought a change in manager was needed in Rafa's final season, Hodgson came in - I didn't do cartwheels about it but decided (as with any new manager) to give the bloke so time and credit. My initial feeling was 'give him until Christmas' to see what he is or isn't capable of, my faith/patience is already running very low with him. I still think we can leave him in until Christmas (so long as we're not flirting with relegation!) and take stock of our situation and go from there after the festive season.

Some will say 'ah but you reap what you sow' and my response to that is 'yes you do, but you'll never know unless you try' I also 'reap what I sow' in the casino after winning a couple of hundred dollars and then losing it again in the blink of an eye, like most things bringing Roy in was a bit of a gamble (as with any new manager) and it hasn't faired up until now as well as I'd have hoped. I am big enough and ugly enough to admit that things haven't gone well but like anything in life, I'll get over it.

Hodgsons a good manager but its when not if and it wont be long. I would like to see a nice guy and a proper football man succeed but the reality is very different and hes dead in the water at Liverpool already. We never sack this early but theres always a first time and its looing increasingly likely this fella will be lucky to see the year out let alone the season.

In my eyes the new owners know Roy is out of his depth at the club (At 3ft in the kiddies pool) and there just bidding their time to get structure of the club back in the place where it needs to be.Without this turning into the usual Roy vs Rafa reply or anything can we just leave Rafa out of it and all agree that Roy is not a Liverpool manager and should of never been appointed.
