I understand we had success under the former managers reigns but its never been pretty for a long time and personally Im fed up with it now. Maybe its the just the way the modern game has gone seeing as most top managers and sides employ this cagey game but not since Roy Evans employed wings backs and the days of McManaman, Fowler and Collymore have I genuinely been excited by attacking football at Liverpool. Its been a long stretch of defensive coaches for us and it will Hodgsons undoing no question about it.

If we were challenging and getting results I don't think too many would complain about the style but when we are struggling and looking to turn a corner to move up the table and we need to grab wins against teams at the bottom then people will be annoyed if we are defensive .

What do you mean by "defensive"?

Well bringing on Poulsen for a striker and saying he wanted to get the point - setting players too deep etc etc

Didnt Poulsen free up Gerrard to attack?
And havent we agreed that the manager doesnt choose to play 20 minutes of good football and 73 minutes of sh'it against wigan?

So do you think the manager instructed the players to change tactics after 20 minues and play defensive?

I am so glad you admitted that. You nearly had me believing that you thought it was the players fault they played sh'ite the other night and not the managers.
Thats up there with "the only thing that matters is what happens on the pitch" and then screeching about whats been said off it.

think the players got a bit apathetic...probably thought hello the first 15 minutes seem pretty easy, don't need to work as hard as sunday......problem with mindset is it can be a bit hard to shake of once it's set in concrete......I do think the substitutions were perhaps not brilliant but it's not the first time thats happened over the last 20 years so I'm not going to condemn a manager for that....I do wish Roy would choose to be more positive in his responses to the media...

ie "Poulsen was brought on because he felt that may help SG support the attack and hopefully get us a win unfortunately that didn't happen so we ended with only a point."

sounds better than "Poulsen helped us get the draw" or words to that effect

achieving a draw despite going for the win will always be a better sound-bite. Honesty ,though honourable , can leave you open to the critics..

Hopefully Roy will play most of the 11 that have played the last 2 games, if not all....no rotation :)

I believe that after going one nil up the manager wanted to consolidate the result and stick with what we had instead of going for more goals so the players went deep . This off course turn the game in the favour of Wigan and we were dominated and overrun . They look like they were going to score a winner so I believe Poulsen came onto to ensure we kept the point . Simple as that .

Next game is an away game again. If we play for a draw against Stoke, I'm sorry to say but the win against Chelsea will become useless...

If Hodgson can keep the ship at least steady until January I think he will be given some money to assemble his own outfit and so the last part of the campaign will be crucial for him. If we dont improve beyond that then I should think NESV will get shut and start over in the summer will their own man and we can all take it from there. If I had to edge a bet I would guess thats what will end up happening but for the clubs sake I would like to see Hodgson turn it around but the spider senses tell you it probably wont happen.

If only everything if life were as simple as you make out
:;):
I watched the same match but saw a different game.
I saw us go one nil up after 8 minues then press for another for 12 minutes (not consolidate) then saw the players lose the plot and their bottle by continuously giving the ball away, thus giving confidence to wigan who pressed on, forcing us further back and eventually they scored. I also saw Kuyt being brought off because he was knackered which freed up Gerrard who had hard cack with a shot against the crossbar. I didnt see the manager enfocing negative tactics or asking the players to play deeper at all.
Spooky isnt it?
