can i point out that we did not get beat last night and we are 9th and on the same points as 6th place and one point off 5th place.

keep it real

my view of Roy is that he was put in as a firefighter manager, the board knew we were going to find it hard this year as there was not much money or skill in the club and they feel Roy was the guy at the time that could work with that.

we dont know what targets he was been set but i would say it would be 5th place and do the best you can in the cup games that matter, in that case he is on target to meet them.

i dont think he will be here for the long run unless he pulls it out the bag and we end up 3rd or a cupor the club feel that he has shown that he has it him him to lead the club to win the prem next year.

ye i was left gobsmacked lastnite aswell. I predicted a backlash if we didnt win but what we got was unbelievable and shocking even for this forum which says something.

You have 3 top premier league players in the likes of Pepe ,Gerrard and Torres and along them very weak players as Lucas ,Koncheski and Paulson. In between you have a bunch of unstable players which can perform on one night and completely disappear on the other. We are deeply lacking quality at the moment and it prevents us from progressing.

Roy's signing ,Koncheski ,Paulson and Meireless are quite poor to be honest and for that he is soul responsible. I'm also afraid he is trapped in a mindset of a small club manager and is afraid or uncapable of breaking this pattern. I'm not sure we can get much more with the current set of players and manager. Our defence is a shambles consisting of a very fragile and shakey 4 defenders ,our Defensive CM are a joke and our wingers are either slow/confused/shaky at best. What is worrying me most is that we were unable to produce ONE full game of good performance.

It would be very hard finishing in the top 6 with this set of players and this type of coaching.

A couple of points in that post are ridiculous.

1) Lucas should not be grouped in with Poulsen and Konchesky. This is his best season I have seen him play so far for Liverpool.

2) How on earth you can classify Meireles as poor is beyond me. He is quality, you can see it from his touch, movement and interaction with the team.

Ignoring those players who have played under 5 games for the club this season, we have rated them -

Gerrard 6.70
Kyrgiakos 6.56
Reina 6.54
Meireles 6.05
Lucas 6.00
Torres 5.85
Cole 5.72
Skrtel 5.66
Carragher 5.52
Konchesky 5.40
Ngog 5.38
Maxi 5.28
Jovanovic 4.59
Johnson 4.55
Poulsen 4.20

Sorry but your in the minority if you think Lucas and Meireles have been poor this season.

I guess that's life on a message board everyone is entitled to his opinion. In MY opinion ,and forgive me if i don't take your players rating (which i like) as a scientific proof, Lucas is Less worse then last year but he is still $hiite. In no way a sub for Mash nor an accaptable candidate for a CM at Liverpool. As to Meireless ,well i don't want to put the blame on the guy ,he isn't one of our worst but as the primary buying this year he is yet to produce any exceptional performace ,yes here and there he can make the pass and handle the ball but for fck sake is that is what we are setteling for ? We sold Yossi for half his price and we get half of Yossi's impace on the field. Don't focuse on specific players ,read ALL my post ,what i'm trying to say we are lacking quality we are not balanced and we will not succeed till we make 4-5 changes and maybe 1 manager at the end of the year.

I dont think that we should blame Roy and we should stop giving him a hard time becouse I think that he is really trying and I think that he does his best. We really have a small squad and some players that we dont need so it's basically like we have no subs. We had a bad start this year but I think that that was expected and that it aint Roy's fault. We had a bad start but now I think that we are improving and with a few changes to the squad we'll be back again. We won 4 out of 5 games from which 4 were PL games and we won 3 out of 4 (including Chelsea and Bolton), and not to mention that we played those last 5 games with basically the same starting lineup. That's a good performance for me and I think that we should give Roy a break and have a little trust in him becouse he really is starting to improve.

I suspect people are miffed by the fact we didnt take all 3 points.

How can we beat Chelsea one day and only draw with Wigan the next. Rightfully, we should steamroll Wigan on our way to a top 4 place.

The whole ethos at Liverpool is to attack, dominate, put to the sword.

That ethos has to come from the manager and bringing on Poulsen is a poor indicator of how the manager reads the game and misunderstands the Liverpool 'ethos for being'.

I dont care if we´re 6th, we should have got 3 points last night after beating Chelsea.

Anyway look on the bright side, Comolli is on board now to sort out the strategy and we've all got a pretty good idea whats top of his list after last night.

It's fine, your opinion is valid - just a minority that's all.

FWIW I would trade Benayoun for Meireles any day.

Some truly incredible posts last night and this morning, unbelieveable even for here.

My take: We were poor and looked tired. You get that sometimes, sometimes you play well and sometimes you don't. Roy knew we were poor too, he knew we didn't press on. He said as much in his aftermatch interview, he was as miffed as anyone else. But, we didn't get beat and were an inch away from winning it and being able to say "that's the sign of a good team, you win when you aren't playing well".

In some more matches this season, we won't play well. Footballs like that. In other matches, we will. It happens to everybody, Chelsea didn't play very well on Sunday either. The secret is, winning when you play well and not losing when you don't.

We are now unbeaten in six matches, and are climbing up the table. Last night for a moment we were fifth. We have a very tricky away game on Saturday, and there is a good chance we won't be playing DVD release football in that one too (I'm just warning you in advance). Hopefully though we can get something out of it, and continue on our unbeaten run.

I'm totally behind what the manager and players are trying to do. I think we are getting there, and I remain confident we will improve our finishing position in the league this season. Unfortunately, I am equally confident we will see more posts like the ones we saw last night and this morning, and we will see the likes of Christian Poulsen being booed as he makes his way onto the pitch more often. Unfortunately it seems to be the way of things these days, but it doesn't mean any of us have to like it.

Following your logic, next time we play Wigan I'll start shítting myself 2 days beforehand.

no hes not saying that, hes saying after a tough week of football and coming off a hard fought win against Cheatski, a 1-1 draw away to Wigan doesnt deserve the amount of Roy backlashing i has started. Yeah we should beat wigan, but like Lee said, nothings a given anymore

Im guessing a lot of the disappointment last night comes from what we saw on sunday - It raised peoples expectations slightly and we witnessed how well the team can play if set up correctly . It was a good start last night and it looked like we really had turned a corner and would go from strength to strength - but then the team just sat deep and invited pressure and it looked only a matter of time before they scored . We really need to change that mentality and play to our strengths like we did at Chelsea . We all know its there as we have witnessed it in both the Arsenal game and the Chelsea game but its not enough - we need to see it in every game . We had a great chance last night and it wasnt taken . Two steps forward one back - hopefully the next two games will be more steps forward and none back .

completely agree, but at least its better than 1 step forward two back as it was earlier in the season
