Stop being a plum fella, there's no "lighting of flames" in that statement whatsoever. They'd probably admit as much themselves.

Anyway I can see where this conversation is headed so I'll exit stage left and leave it to you.

Maybe people don't think Hodgson is the man for long term BUT I'm going to be happy in the guess that the majority would be happy to let him continue as manager if we got to 4th - which was the point I was trying to make since you keep suggesting that Hodgson will get the push still even if we do get 4th and all because of the fans

I don't mean to be pedantic, but where's YOUR proof that the majority of fans will feel that? Of course you don't have any (aside from the "well I've been at the game etc etc" stuff), it's your opinion.

It's different to mine, that's cool. I actually hope you're right, but both of our opinions are merely guesses.

Shall we do a poll Mick and see or read through the countless threads on here and see what everyone wants us to achieve ? . It seems the common consensus on here is that 4th is what they expect and I have not seen one person say he should still be sacked even if he got 4th

Let me ask you ALL this question. What does the fans being divided about the manager has ANYTHING to do with him having to resign?

If Roy gets 4th, thats good enough for me.

We have a real chance to make a statement in the PL tonight.  A win tonight will put us ahead of Spurs and close to City. (who i hope will draw with the Mancs).

I will point out though that sometimes not everything is so black and white.  If we were top of the league but lost our last 7 games and finished 4th...would we still be happy?  Maybe not so much.  just an example though.

It lies with the fact that some on here are irrational in their criticisms of him.

“Roy ruined my holiday. Sack him” was a prime example

Yeah but Roy will care about this? what people are saying on the forums?

At the end of the day no manager would say "I will resign so that the fans will be united again..."  :Oo:

and no owner would say "Roy... I'm sorry but we have to sack you so that the fans will be united again..."  :Oo:

The owners will sack Roy if he doesn't perform and if the goals that the owners set are not met... it's as simple as that.

I'll give you an example... I managed LFC in FIFA10 in Legendary difficulty. I finished 2nd behind Arsenal and I got sacked... FFS I finished 2nd and I got sacked! What about the CL money you ungrateful board!  :no

You obviously havent been paying attention. Ask ciggy the question and see what answer you get. I have friends who are regular match-goers who are adamant that Roy must go no matter what, using the excuse BM said that "if we succeed it will be down to Rafa not Woy".
By the way, your "put away the matches" routine always makes me smile.
Im on to you...

What is this thread actually achieving?

It lost its purpose so long ago its simply not true.

Cant we have a separate ranting thread in Off Topic section?

Thommo Id be over the moon if we got into the CL next season whether Roy was our manager or not, because it where our club needs to be at the top of world football..

And kewell Roy didnt ruin my holiday atall and this is what I was talking about earlier weeks ago I was very critical of Roy but Ive laid off him since its a pity others on here are so sad and cant drop the subject instead of acting like a gang of arl fish wives jangeling in the bagwash.

Or maybe that puppet master is still controlling things behind the scenes and people are speaking on behalf of the banned :glare:

Anyway lets hope we win tonight and climb up that table

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I must admit I didn't want him in the position and the start of the season enforced my opinion.

But...

Since the new owners have backed him and his methods are showing some fruit it is hard to criticise. As long as those two factors are present I will back him. Anyone not backing a manager who is winning is only serving to damage the club.
