I don't think many (me included) are denying that he's finally becoming a "very good" player and looking at the rest of the current squad maybe even an important one for us.

His last few performances have just got better and better but I think you should reach for the tissue box Andy, describing some of his stuff as "Alonso-esque" smacks of a premature ejaculation. He was however excellent today. The fella is obviously maturing and has finally stepped up. Unlike previous seasons I don't think any of us shudder when we see his name on the team sheet.

Long may it continue .

You know Damjan in his defense he wasnt our worst performer last season, he kept his head down and got on with it and sometimes justifiably but quite often unfairly seemed to bear the brunt of our lacklustre campaign. With the exception of Pepe Reina no one exactly covered themselves in glory last term.

I have been his biggest critic but I have to say the last 3 or 4 games he has been immense and today he was one of the best on the field and I Think we have to give him the credit because god knows the we have given him enough sh!t over the past seasons.

Well done Lucas long may it continue!!!!

Sometimes it's hard to admit you're wrong. Especially when you think someone is going to make it, and he doesn't make it.

But when it's just the opposite, and someone who you had lost all the patience for his football start playing very well, it's very easy to accept your mistake, because you're happy.

And I'm bloody happy my sentences about Lucas being a problem for Liverpool midfield have proven wrong. When you've just beaten Chelsea it's easier to admit a mistake :D

I think Lucas has become better but my main issue with Lucas  is that Liverpool Fc is not a development "school" where we can carry a young player for years when he clearly isn't good enough and then say it is ok when he finally comes good. There are other clubs that can do that. Either you buy an exceptional talent that will be good from the go or you buy good enough quality from the start.

By that reckoning Cristiano Ronaldo would have been shifted after 2 seasons at Utd. If you have a player with potential you try to develop it naturally not put him to the clock and toss him aside if the talent doesnt reach any preconceived targets you have set.

He looked class today.  He destroyed their attacks, made good passes, and covered every blade of grass.  He is good going forward, and now he seems to be allowed to run both ways on the pitch!!

Long may it continue.

no, seriously. there were a couple of moments when he'd put his foot on the ball, turn and look for the correct attacking pass, pretty much dictating the tempo of a particular passage of play. and a couple of moments when he'd float a nice ball out to the flanks. and then a couple of moments more when he'd find a clever way to make space for himself if he received the ball under pressure. to me - and maybe only to me - it looked very much like the way that alonso used to play from the centre of the park.

St Mick, can you give it a break on the constant criticism of the "fans" and focus on the football instead? Ta.

So you think that is a good strategy for a club like LFC to get players in that aren't good enough for a few seasons and carry them just so they become good later on?

That is West Ham style with no ambition for trophies.

Well Ive always liked Lucas so I`m just happy Ive got a few more members on the Lucas love train.
I predict he`s going to start finding the net! Not prolific like but he`ll chip in with a few.

I think what got the best of him yesterday is having players around him that shared the same industry. We had Gerrard, Meireles and Kuyt running around and that helped Lucas. Chelsea couldn't cope with our midfield.
