That's not what he said though. He said the squad right now has more expensive flops than players who were brought in for next to nothing and can be considered value for money. I've never heard so much nonsense. Reina 6m, Kuyt 9m, Ngog 1.5m, the Greek 1.5m, Lucas 6m, Cole free, Jovanovic free, Agger 5.5m, Skrtel 7m.

The only players who are still here who can be considered expensive flops are Babel and Aquilani. Johnson was overpriced but I wouldn't call him a flop.

Anyway lets see if we can bring this back onto the subject of our current manager - for the people that want to continuely bring up the previous manager and slate him please follow Niall to the Worldwide discussion forum and in there you can slate the previous manager . It is ironic that the people that have a go at posters for rating the previous manager are the ones that constantly bring him up and his mistakes as in some way trying to justify the errors our current manager is constantly doing .

I digressed sorry

My take on current manager - on the pitch results have improved which is good to see , performances are still way below par , better players are woeful at the moment , some of the less appreciated players are stepping up to the mark . Massive improvement on the pitch is still required but the good news is other teams are also faltering - this next stage of the season is crucial , Hodgson said judge him after ten games well at the moment the school report would say "must do lots better ". As for what he is saying in the media it is getting more cringeworthy what he is saying and its not helping his cause with the fans one bit . Time for him and the big players to earn their paychecks - get a good run of form going and things will get easier for the club and manager and then he may actually show us he is good enough to be our manager .

Lets see how long we can go talking about the current manager without the handbags flying or the matches being lit

Reina - great buy, well done
Kuyt - I don't rate at all
Lucas - Is he really a footballer?

Ngog - cheap buy, worth what we paid. No more.
The Greek/skrl/Agger - about right price.
Acqu and johsnon - WTF?
BABEL - ruined career.

how many of the young kids are left here that Rafa took to the club?

err all off them .

maybe one day someone will want to buy one of them eh?  :D

Didn't know you wanted to sell them , thought the idea was to bring through to the first team . My mistake

Biggest reason why this thread is so f.ucked up apart from the insults that is . The vast vast majority of those posters who wanted rafa out last season ,for what ever reason's , have had egg smeared all over there faces because of what we have ended up with . If we had got a better manager or a comparible one atleast (which is what's supposed to happen when you sack your manager ) none of this bitching about the last manager would be taking place . You would all be saying *look told you so , we needed a change and we needed to progress " and guess what you probably would have been right . Suck it up lads , it's hard being wrong i know , but it hapoens to us all from time to time . Except for RAFA  that is :;):

no.. there is no link between rafa going and what we got. It was right for rafa to go... simple as... now we got Roy, thats another story.

If i dont like beans so buy peas and dont like peas, dont mean im gonna like the beans again

There's every link to rafa going and what we got , because i said so myself months before he was sacked . When all the screaminmg and shouting for his head was going on i said . What top class manager would want to come to LFC with the state we were in . I was told Hiddink and mourinho and there like would run to us . It was bollox and it always was. The reason our performance was below par because of the lack of quality in the squad. When I looked at the bench against Bolton, we had no one who is good enough to change the game (ultimately I was proved wrong when Ngog came in) and we don't have a squad in depth. Now whoever is the manager, if its still Roy, he has to improve our depth and strengthen our weak areas. Roy has to go for quality, none of the Shaun Wright Phillips boll*x we are linked with, we need top players to get back on track.

Once we have a very good team, I'm sure we will be better on the pitch and for starters score more than 2 goals in a game.

We still have two of the best players in the world thou MH and we arent playing to their strengths - you could have the 11 best players in the world in the team but if you set them up incorrectly and utilize the incorrect tactics they are going to perform poorly . We set up so deep mate and provide no attacking intent and our defence is so poor currently we look vunerable every time a team attacks - the back four are virtually on pepes toes because the midfield are so deep which leaves a massive gap up to torres - its changed a little bit recently with Poulsen being in his rightful place and lucas and merieles going a bit higher but the back four still sit too deep .

mate, defensively we have always been poor! Last season we were conceding goals right left and center from set pieces and open play. We never addressed them and our defenders are way overrated. We need to improve in that area of the pitch, we need defenders who can complement each other. I'll give you Gerrard for not playing his strengths, but for me Torres has been poor this season, starving out of service or not, he looked really lazy in some games. Benny, against Bolton our bench was very poor, we had no one you would say in the second half ''Well, come on Roy make a change play X''. It seems to me we lack depth, not the way we play or tactics (ok I also don't like his tactics), the tactics were ok against Bolton and we won the game at the end. Roy HAS to improve the squad, if he buys more average players in Jan we won't be anywhere near good enough.

Spot on Igor - the biggest mistake was made during the summer - Hodgson isnt good enough as a manager to manage at a top club - his track record suggested it and it is proving to be so .

not spot on. I wouldnt trust Rafa with my bar mitzvah money, let alone the reins of a football club. he was poor and had to go, now we move on, its transitional

Been like that for a number of years mate but we always performed better - so did we over achieve during those years ? We havent been poor at the back for years - Didnt pepe win golden gloves 3 years running ?

Yes agree Torres has looked lazy but he is being asked to play the role of a target man - how many long balls are pumped up now for him to chance - he is getting demoralized .

His track record suggests something totally different.

Here is an idea for you - instead of constantly slating previous manager as some sort of justification for current manager - tell us the plus points of the managerial abilities of Hodgson that maybe people arent seeing - this is the Hodgson thread afterall so surely you should be able to come up with something different than "rafa was sh.it" when people are saying Hodgson isnt good enough .

The previous manager had obviously lost the trust of the dressing room, and a hell of a lot of Liverpool supporters.

You really think we could've carried on with him in charge, ?

You really think Gerrard and Torres would still be here now with the previous manager in charge.

Personally I think not,

So the club took a punt on the LMA Manager of the year.

I don't know if he'll still be here next season, but I'd trust him with the best part of £40M in January,

Lets face it, he surely will come back with something better than Aquillani and Johnson.

Can I ask you to make your mind up please?
On one hand youre criticising Roy for his press conference and public utterences.
On the other youre saying this:
"He can say whatever he wants off the pitch - its what happens on the pitch that matters. He has said some really daft things but the performance and results matter more"
Im confused
???

IF our results on the pitch were of the acceptable standard and we were performing well and getting wins etc then people wouldnt really be bothered about what he is saying BUT because the standard of football we are currently seeing and the results are below acceptable then his soundbites to the media get highlighted and maybe he should concentrate more on getting the team playing well first before spouting off in the press . If we were playing well i could easily ignore what he says but we arent and his media soundbites stick out like a sore thumb - it brings even more attention to us .
