As for all these expensive flops that is f.ucking disgraceful. Who are they? Babel yes. Then who? Next worse value for money is Poulsen.
Bigmick thommo et al label me what you like I've been reserved in criticism of Roy and have not jumped on every comment by any means but that one irks me. Apart from it not being true how can he get the best out of said players by spouting :censored: like that?

Another in the long line of gaffs.

???

Dossenna - 7m
Keane - 20m
Aquilani - 20m
Babel - 11m
Pennant - 6m
Bellamy - 7m

need I go on?

we're talking about the players who are still here. he said the squad now has more expensive failures than good players we brought in relatively cheaply which is complete garbage. babel is probably the only one.

he's underplaying the quality of the squad we have to try and strengthen his own position.

And that's why he's called Metalhead - lol - sorry mate only joking - totally agree with your list of flops by the way except for Aquilani and they are the key reason why we have ended up with an under strength team of mainly very average players.

All fall into the category of flops for me. Some may argue that Poulsen and Jovanovic are too new to be considered so but on face value they are poop.

Babel yes. I'd say yeah it's too early to judge jova and poulsen and although early signs are not great neither were expensive. Lucas has recently broken in as a regular in brazil's team and has played some good games imo. At 23 he should also only improve so I wouldn't class him as a flop.

Depends what Roy meant by "our list". Certainly if he meant our recent historical list of transfer dealings then it's true that we've made our fair share of expensive flops and a collection of not so expensive flops. Under Houllier we p!ssed money on the likes of Diouf, Diao, Cisse, and under Rafa on the likes of Babel, Keane and Aquilani, and when you include the collection of not so expensive flops it really does add up to a lot of money. It's painful to think of the players we've let slip by in favour of some of these absolute numpties. We've needed to get more intelligent with our signings and it was good to read Henry echo that sentiment when he said that value and opportunity will drive our spending, and Roy too when said, "I think you can pay an awful lot of money for poor players and you can pay not very much money for very good ones - it is all to do with how good your scouting and your eye is."

Someone needs to stitch his mouth up to stop him constantly planting his foot in it . The guy is turning into a joke in the media .

He's just being frank. Too often we've p!ssed money up the wall on transfer fees and on wages, and that needs to change.

Aqua excluded I would agree with most of that although it is not the kind of thing a manager should be stating about his team imo. He is surely aware that some of them are perhaps a little low on confidence at the moment?

I'm metalhead ofcourse :D

The only time Skrtel stood up was against Chelsea in Stamford bridge when we drew 0-0, then comes the 3-0 loss against the Mancs back then, when Skrtel made Titus Bramble look world class. I just knew from that game that Skrtel won't be good enough for the team. He isn't as good as Agger on the floor, he isn't as good as Soto in the air, he isn't as good as Carragher in marking or positioning.

:D  :buttrock

Its hard to exclude Aquaman mate, I do think he is a very good player, but I considered him as a flop because we bought him at a bad time and he didn't live up to his expectation as to replace Alonso ( even though both different players)

Aquilani cost £20m and for that what return on the pitch?Sneijder cost £13m, was available at the time (as many will remember), and is now probably the best player in his position in world foobtball. That £20m could have been much better spent. If, like a good few on here you think Johnson's "one of the worst full backs in the club's history" or simply that £18m was very excessive - a profligate use of funds at a time when other areas were of higher priority e.g. striker (hard to argue against that, I think), you can include Johnson instead. Either way, under both Houllier and Rafa we made too many bad choices and that had a significant impact on the quality of the squad.

Second, if the players have read those comments, then I suspect - like us - most of them won't see themselves as "expensive failures" (there are a several flops, but most came on the cheap). We know, the players know and Roy knows (as he had made clear several times) that the likes of Reina, Agger, Kuyt, Gerrard, Torres, Cole i.e. our first team proper are key players, not expensive failures and therefore I don't envisage his comments having a corrosive effect on squad morale. I suspect he has a couple of expensive failures in mind, one being Babel, the other being Aquilani, and being frank about it they were (though obviously Aquilani is in a different stratosphere to Babel ability-wise). Those two aren't going to be playing a significant part in our future though by the looks of it so, big deal. Bottom line: ar'sed.

i think he was referring to the recent history of the club, and not specifically the current team. hodgson might be foot in mouth merchant on occasion but i don't think he's so naive as to dismiss the players he has at the moment.
