Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

As I said earlier. This was exactly how Rafa set out the team to play. The problem we had was when teams really bunkered down.

The win over Blackburn certainly was a welcome relief to Lvp fans and dam the criticism of Roy for now. It was just like old times for Liverpool wasn't it? Well done Roy, we hope this is the start of a new era for you and the team.

The next 4 games will tell whether the win was just a flash in the pan or Lvp have moved up a gear and start our winning ways again.

Somehow or other, I still feel Roy is not the type of manager that can meet up to the high expectation of LFC. Corect me if I'm wrong, I think the last manager to resign was King Kenny. The successors before RH were  all replaced due to failure to achieve the high standards that Lvp expects.

The last 2 managers before Roy (Houllier and Rafa) were politely asked to leave by the board despite being able to finish in the top 5 every season during their reign and qualifying for CL almost everytime. Houllier at one time received death threats, remember?
With Roy, based on his past track record and current league position the most he can do is move us up to mid table this season.

So my comment is, if Roy can consistently get Lvp to achieve this kind of result and move Lvp up North in the table, just let him continue till end of season otherwise, please sack him.

we played surprisingly well, the main shocker is maxi playing fantastically good.
even lucas was straying 30 yards ball alonso-style left and right.

something looked fishy...wat happened during the weekend with hodgson and the squad??
we will never know, i guess i will wait for Hodgson's bioautography.

dont talk rubbish we attacked from the first minute. When did rafa ever do that for fecksake.

it appears you missed the run in of the 08-09 season, or the CL game against Juve, or the Anfield 2nd leg against Barca. Maybe you dont watch too many games.

.

sorry to say, but I was at both them games you mention,

that was not typical Raftics.

made me laugh seeing him fuming on the inter bench when Lucio went over the half way line.

.

Thank fluc he's gone.

ps can somebody explain the milk comment to me?,,,

does it mean, " i spent nearly £40M on two $hit players in my last season?"

just a thought.

The guy asked for examples, and I happily supplied them.

I can understand your hatred of his negative tactics now that we have a manager with such a fluid football style and attacking philosophy.

I'm under no illusions at how roy hogson sets up his team.
I don't even think he'll be here next season,  what i do think, is that he will not be blinkered and stubborn if things need changing.

the true test for this will be if he brings poulsen  back into the team.

btw
what does the milk quote mean?

does it mean, " i love LFC soo much that i want their players on the cheap, "

I can fully understand peoples reluctance to get carried away after one match, one decent performance, one win. I feel pretty much the same way myself to be totally honest, we were bound to win one in the end anyway it's fair to say..

All that said, in terms of the football club (leaving Roy out of it just for a second) it was a huge result, and on the back of the encouraging draw in Napoli it at least allows some of us to have glimmers of hope that things might be about to improve a bit. You even finding yourself casting glances at the league table and fantasising about how higher three or four more points will/would have us, but for now it just feels good to have won one.

The performance was good too. Predictably now we've played well in one match there are those that are hailing it as "just like our performances under Rafa", and it's hard to argue with the fact that it was like some of them at least. It was most like our performances under the previous manager when we played in the same way (as I suppose it would be), in that we went for it, attacked with gusto, played at a high tempo. We always look a better team to me when we do that, probably because our teams better players are best suited to doing so. Unfortunately Roy hasn't had us playing that way since he came, and far too often Rafa didn't either.

For now though, rather than pontificate on whether or not Roy has seen the light, and rather than as some have claim that if Roy can't beat Bolton AND Chelsea then he ought to go (I think he has to win the FA Cup, the Europa League, the Fair Play league and compose the winning song in the Eurovision song contest myself :D ), I'm just going to enjoy the win.

We will play better teams than Blackburn, we will be asked much stiffer questions. Sometimes we won't have the answers, and we will get beat. We will get beat more than we'd like because we aren't that great a team despite a good performance yesterday, but at least if we have a good go at it and sweat for the shirt, i'll be happy enough. Equally, if some of our players like Maxi (who was excellent yesterday), Lucas (who had his best game for us I thought) and Kyriakos (who was immense) can play like that even every now and then, it will really help.

The question for Roy now particularly with regards the big Greek is whether or not he is brave enought o play him every week. By that, I mean you have to accept that he isn't our best defender, he isn't our quickest, nor is he our best distributer. He is though a 100% merchant, he is good at heading it out, and increasingly it is becoming apparent that he is pretty good at heading it in as well. Just like we make compensations for the fact Johnson isn't a great defender by the fact he is good going forward, perhaps it's time to make a case for accepting the Greek isn't great on the deck, but his good bits ourwiegh that. he wouldn't get into the top teams, but right now we aren't one of those and for me he should get in our team.

Continue to be brave Roy, attack, play the Greek and you have my full support. Whatever happens, you have my respect anyway just like all Liverpool managers past and present do.

concur...rocky's visual impairment and memory cell depletion are undermining his ability to compare our teams performances...past & present

Rafa's team did plenty of that...

Yeah we did, we'd attack for 5 minutes, not get a goal then heads would slump and we'd play counter attacking defensive football for the rest of the match, those are my memories of last season anyway.
I genuinly can't remember us attacking form the start in Istanbul though, if memory serves we were completely humiliated in the first half then staged an epic comeback against an arrogant AC Milan side.

It's comments like this that makes one think this fella is a WUM because he clearly has not seen the game and assumes if you are losing 3-0 at half time you never attacked and were simply battered....borrow a DVD of the final and watch it closely.....even the bitters would acknowledge we attacked and worcester mancs too  ???

What leads you to that conclusion? Were you perhaps happy how we played last season or this season up this point, (with the exception of the much improved display against Blackburn)?
I want my team to win and to play with passion, what is it you like to see?

I apologise if I've caused offence but I remember watching the CL 2005 final with friends and being very fecking embarassed at half time and very very proud at full time. Perhaps I do remember it wrong but I'm certainly no WUM.

I want to see that too, I however dont convey it in such a way however that it sounds like Im embarrassed to support LFC. I sure as hell dont think we only beat AC Milan in the greatest single night in the clubs history - in the greatest European final of all time I might add, by the opposition being too "arrogant"
