The incident with Voller in 1990 wasn't all one way though that behaviour was unacceptable. I don't remember Rijkaard for bad conduct during his playing career I remember him for being a cultured versatile footballer down the middle who was part of a great Dutch side that won Euro 88.

To be honest if he became our manager I'd be more interested in what effect he has on our team but clearly if there have been disciplinary issues with the sides he's managed until now then that would need to be considered.

Roy Hodgson has admitted he would have no hesitation in giving Jay Spearing and Jonjo Shelvey a chance in the Barclays Premier League after their impressive display in Napoli on Thursday.

The Liverpool manager was delighted his faith in the youngsters paid off and he feels they both have a bright future in the game.

"They did the club proud on Thursday and I'm really pleased with them," Hodgson told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Jonjo made his first start and he showed everyone what a good signing from Charlton we have there.

"I remember when I gave Jonjo a start in pre-season against  Boussia Moenchengladbach and he did extremely well.

"I think Jay has been very unlucky not to play more because every time he has played this season, in the Europa League, even the Carling Cup and he played in pre-season for me, he has never played a bad game for the club during my short time here so far.

"I'm really pleased with Jay and I think it's very good for the club that we have local boys like him who show that we don't necessarily have to go out and recruit expensive players from other clubs.

"I wouldn't have any hesitation in playing Jay and Jonjo in the Premier League."

Noooo, Hodgson!!! wtf are you talking about, give kids a chance in the premier league? stupid comment

He makes Rafa look quite stable in terms of selection with all this rotating in Europe. Roy's ideas on top first teamers not being able to play 50/60 games a season is bizarre and ludicrous. If it's come from his experiences in Scandanavia well their seasons are not August to May and are not as long so to manage LFC on that basis is just ridiculous. Shelvey did ok the other night but it was hardly the game to experiment with im. Supposing we'd be lost why should a young lad like that be put under so much pressure and criticism so early in his Liverpool career. No wonder David Fairclough was unimpressed with the lineup in Napoli when he spoke two nights ago on big match build up. Roy makes himself look more stupid every week with the decisions he makes. Broughton did well with the sale but bungled it when he went for Hodgson in the summer.

Well done Roy, good win today and a great performance

Good to watch and great pressure and possession, Torres apparently dosent like you but fair play to him playing well for you today, that was really nice of him. And special mention to Cole, Miereles and the rest who despite you being a sh.it manger all put in a performance for you.

Its all down to the players todays and in fairness you may aswell not have even been there because no matter what you do its wrong.

Roy out

Roy will never get us into the top four even if he does keep us up. Nothing from today has changed my mind about that. A stay of execution maybe but no more. It really says something when you wonder if you're capable of beating a side like Blackburn and we're still in the bottom three. Anything less than three points at Bolton next week and it's back to square one. I'm not optimistic.

Pity isnt it

You'd think all the players that hate him would have played really badly today to try and get him out, ah well there is always the Bolton game for them to try again, bless them

Come to think of it maybe its Carra who wants Roy out, after all he did score and own goal again!!

If he can have us play like that week in week out I have no problem with him as manager, but it's my belief that that won't be the case.. but good on him to get us ready to smash Blackburn.

Agreed. I'm ready to give him a chance if we can play like this on a consistent basis.

But please... no more playing Meireless as RM if we play 4-4-2. Get Gerrard to play there FFS!

If our Roy can adjust his methods and get the team playing the way they did for the forst 70mins today he should have no problems getting the team marching up the table - the real question then is how come it took so long to get the kind of intensity we saw today?
