Hypocrites. And you can see it fanning the flames of future disputes. Both "sides" as it were have been guilty of it: Those who say Roy deserves respect have said words to the effect, "it's a matter of dignity, not results" - but they didn't show the same respect toward Rafa (questioned his mental health, called him a sheister, among other things); but those who are being ultra-tough on Roy and who were ultra-soft on Rafa are the worst culprits, in my view.

We sat through a whole season of sh!t last year; we saw a £20m signing sat on the bench while Lucas and Masch cost us midfield control - and by extension, lots of points - in umpteen fixtures. By comparison to what has been said after just six games of Roy's reign, hardly a word was said against the previous manager about the sustained damage his decision to stick with that pairing had on our season. We drew away to Reading and anger was directed at Gerrard (remember that?) and the other players who needed to "pull their fecking socks up". Hardly a word about the manager by comparison. Often it was, "Oh and Rafa isn't getting away with it either in case you think he is" bolted on at the end, just to appease his critics. Roy, six games in, is the MAIN focus of attention. It's not Lucas, it's not the players, it's not the owners and their lack of team-funding relative to our competitors; it's Roy and his tactics.

It's Poulsen mate, it's Poulsen :p

On a serious note, aren't you one bit annoyed by Roy's defensive tactics? Sitting deep without pressuring the ball and letting the opponents have their way against our defense... I believe it has cost us points against the mancs and west ham... It's like playing like the italians' Catenaccio without really having the same level of organization, discipline and tactical awareness... the Catenaccio itself is an outdated philosophy...

tbph I dont think they would. BUT on the same token there are those who hated Rafa so much are putting their blinkered look on Roy. Thats how it seems to look anyway to me. I'm not having a jab at anyone here, just saying how its coming off in my eyes

agreed. what i do wish is Roy has a more attacking philosophy.

so why didnt he get someone on loan?

Mario Gomez. he tried. Bayern refused.

When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high and dont be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm theres a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on walk on with hope in your heart and youll never walk alone
Youll never walk alone

The most awe inspiring song ever written or sung
Now, more than ever in my lifetime, do the words of this song have more meaning than they had before
Please take the time to read them properly and let the meaning and emotion of the song seep into your brain and your heart.
Sing it if you will so you can feel the power the tune adds to the words
But never forget that this song is what seperates us from all other supporters in the world.
Because we dont just sing it. We live by it.

words are cheap. actions speak louder. Roy's needs to grow some balls and have the courage to set up his team to attack.

This has nothing to do with give him more time etc as I agree with that but I cannot agree with those quotes from the press conference.

How about " I fully understand the motives behind the protest but am confident that the fans will fully get behind the team etc etc"

A bit woolly but acknowledges the fans concerns.

I want the guy to succeed, I even like the guy and think he is a good manager but he has to realise and react to the situation at the club.  None of his making of course but he accepted the role as the breath of fresh air that we supposedly needed so switch on Roy please.

good post taff

I was critical last season of the manager and imo rightly so.
And at this moment in time i will be critical of the new manager.
I am not meaning i want him out, he needs and deserves time but that doesnt mean i cant call things that i can see that are wrong.

Meireles on the right ?
With Lucas and Poulsen in the middle ?
Like most have said the two of them shouldnt be in the same team together. To put them in the middle, the place on the field were you gain control of the game is wrong.
Meireles looks a top player to me but he is never a right midfielder.
He is behind Gerrard our best central midfielder so play him in his best position.
We are persisting with the same tactics that failed miserably last season.
I hoped Roy would come in and have his own ideas but he just seems to be following what Rafa tried and failed with.
Ciggy what are these yard dog tactics you are talking about ?
To me we are playing virtually the same tactics as what we did under the old manager.

this is it for me. exactly.

nothing has improved from last season, it's just stayed exactly the same.

- good purchases along with dodgy purchases.

- playing players out of position

- persisting with the 2 defensive midfielders axis

- not buying a striker

- negative tactics

- late substitutions

- inaccurate / silly comments after the game

- boring football (for the record I know that rafa didn't always play boring football, but wolves/stoke/portsmouth etc last season were dire performances - and we're playing exactly the same football as we did then)

its like the english version of Rafa Benitez, nothing has changed at all.

I am in the camp that thought it was the right time to change the manager, but I am not liking this particular change at the moment.

I think the tactics are much different.  We used to have a more offensive defence, if that makes sense. :D

What i mean is, we used to work hard as a team to press the opponents and win the ball further up the pitch.  We also used wide players to stretch the play.  (even though we have no real wingers as such).

The tactics Roy is using remind me a lot of Houlliers team.

Sorry what i mean is system and formation.
I disagreed with Rafa's 4-5-1 also.
If you havent got good enough players to stretch the play and hug the touchline then play a formation that suits the players you have.
The only wide player that suits that formation that we have had is Riera who has gone now.
The likes of Jovanovic, Cole Babel Kuyt etc all prefer to come inside.

Atleast under Rafa our yard dog tactics we had anything from 15 to 30 shots on target we are lucky if we have 1 now. With Rafas yardog tactics we had most of the possession. There is absoluty nothing in the final 3rd and he is making the best striker in the world look sh!t and the best keeper in the prem Reina look like a nervous wreck even with 6 defenders in front of him.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

We didnt last season ciggy.

In our away games last season we barely mustered a shot.
My mates go home and away, i cant because of my kids.
I went to Birmingham the other week and was saying to the lads, that was terrible we hardly had a shot.
The response was 'you should have been at Portsmouth and Hull etc last season'

We have carried on where we left off last season.
Roy can be criticised for that as he is the current manager so the buck does stop with him now.
But lets not try and pretend we were dominating games and creating loads last season because that is a blatant lie.
