I dont really want to compare the six games of this season to last seasons thirty eight because its too early. Has he improved things from the first game to the sixth? We have had a hard start by anyones standards which everyone admits. Slowly inching our way up the table seems to have stopped the slide we were on. So I would say we have slightly improved. But not much, I'll give you that.
We must to better, no doubt about it

Slightly improved? Come on, please take your head out of the sand. We are and have been ( save a few flashes ) measurably worse than last season. The football is rotten, the attitude from some of the players is rotten, the results are rotten and the club is rotting away slowly day by day.

At least if we were playing lovely football it would detract from all the ownership woes, but the fact is we are playing like  bottom of the league team, struggling for form and points. 6 points after 6 games ( :censored: the tough fixture list excuse.......... We are Liverpool :censored:.g FC ) we should and we have been burying teams like this for years and years.

Lets get real here. I love this club as much as anyone and more that some. It gives me no pleasure to watch the players wearing the shirt giving the types of performances I have witnessed this season. I want them to play better, to their potential. I want them to sweep all in front of them. I want them to be challenging with chelsea at the top of the league. But I am a realist. We are fu'cked. Blame the owners, blame Benitez, blame the players, blame the fans, blame Moores and Parry. Blame who you like but the FACT is we are in a terrible state. Probably far worse than most could imagine.
We have a new manager, who some, not all, believe is not good enough to be in charge at LFC and have run their own campaign to undermine him with various tactics. This has been more successful than it should because we desperately need to be firing on all cylinders, and drawing, never mind losing is looked on with perverse glee by those who want Roy sacked.
Sadly Roy has not got the breathing room Benitez had at the start of his first season because were not in the Champions league (see Benitez). He has not got he breathing room in the Premier league that Benitez had at the start of his first season (see Benitez). No. What Roy has got is the axe hanging over his head if we dont win every game or at least go close and play with style, verve, class. Unlike last season (see Benitez).
I am as gutted as ayone that this is not happening but Im not going to call for the managers head because, no mater how much I want him to wave his magic wand, hes going to make mistakes, fu'ck up, get things wrong and scrape draws away from home in europe (top of the group by the way).
So all you people who were talking, then shouting and are now screaming for the managers head becuase he hasnt turned a bunch of under achievers (see Benitez) into world beaters in a coupe of months, can chat all the sh'ite you like. Because, I'll say it again, if he fails, we fail. And you can dream to your hearts content of "super manager" coming in and saving us, but thats all it is, a dream.
Welcome to twit and tw@ts LFC: deamers and snides.

spot on mate & a great, great post. totally agree, i will never lose faith an will go to games whatever our situation, cause as much as i fecking hate tw1t & tw@t with a passion! it will take more than those kunts to stop me supporting LFC. i for one will always acknowledge what previous managers have achieved for us, it's our history,it's our education etc but this is also about our future, an believe me with or without, our present owners, present manager - does that mean i will stop loving an following LFC -does it feck!

to give some on here an "old fart" indication of what i mean- when the likes of evans an souness were our managers- internet forums didn't exsist, you had discussion from fans who attended games, before, during an after end of! like it goes on now, but one thing is missing for me- fans then gave the manager their full support after an in different start etc- ask anyone who remembers the souness era especially.

The problem is I don't think he will get as many games as I hope he would because patience in the modern game has gone now.

so what if he almost got Blackburn relegated? Rafa had a couple of dodgy spell in Spain didn't he? all managers have that, no one is perfect, people learn from mistakes and move on . Roy needs time.

Even in Rafas worst season last season, so far under Roy its been worst than anything we witnessed you get a new manager to turn things around not go backwards, and we are going backwards, and will continue to do so with him.

Rafa finished 7th and got to the semi final.

Roy finished 12th and got to the final.

What sense does it make to give him the job? Fulham won just once away from home last season 1-0. So how was Roys management excellent at Fulham?

And Rafas a lot younger than Roy and has won more.

Why do people keep bringing Rafa up because if Rafas worst season is a benchmark for Roy what does that say about him?

Rafas sitting nicely at the top of the Italian League & CL hes new in his job aswell, where as we are feckin 16th.

There is a difference between Fulham and Liverpool

Some good posts in this thread and I think that's a decent post in defence of Hodgson. He certainly doesn't have the same leeway afforded to his predecessors and I don't think anyone can deny that? For a number of posters he is simply living up to (or down to) their expectations of him coming in and confirming their view hence the considerably shorter leash he has been afforded. And that is the truth of it i think.

Tonights result in the context of the competition is absolutely fine. Win your home games and get your draws away in Europe and you'll do just fine so i think it's important people remember that. You don't consistently go away to European teams and dump on them in their own ground so it is unreasonable to expect the walkover some were naively calling for.

However, people are right to be worried about performances. I'm very concerned about the personel we are playing (from the start), where they are being played and Roy's very Rafaesque use of substitutions.

- Very concerned to see Lucas and Poulsen in there together again. Everyone has their opinion on who is the better player but you're splitting hairs, they are essentially the same player and there's only room for one crab in the side surely? Anyone it's been done to death.

- Why is Mereilles playing in the hole? He looks like a useful player, he's got quick feet, sees the game, is clever and has a nice range of passing but play him in the middle of the park PLEASE. He doesn't have the mobility or carry the threat running with the ball that you need from a number 10. Play Joey Cole in there.

- What's going on with the subs Roy? Waited 80 mins today and when you did make a sub is was the VERY pedestrian Maxi coming on for the lively (albeit tiring) Joe Cole.

- What's going on with Fernando? He looks completely off it, he's slow, lacks any sort of sharpness and it worries me that we haven't heard a soundbite from him in the press since he first came back from the World Cup.

Big big game this weekend and a chance to grab a couple of early goals and get our tails up a bit. I'm going the game so fingers crossed we can get our season up and running. I'm concerned about Hodgson, I'm not particularly impressed with the way we're playing but things can change pretty quickly in football. I also haven't enjoyed the way his critics speak about him on here so a big win against Blackpool might just lift some of the pressure on the guy.

Spot on with regards , Lucas , Poulsen , Meireles and Torres and also the subs and lack of changes when its obvious they are needed . Also extremely worried about the set up - too deep and no pressure on oppo , the lack of chances being created , the lack of sustained possession and looking awful at the back especially at set pieces .

criticise the team selection or tactics and you are condemned as an anti roy and then given a spell in the ducking stool until you confess to calling our manger "woy"( that term of endearment seems to have been used more by true pro roy fanatics than by the vehemently anti roys over the last month or so)

Spot on

We have to be allowed to vent our frustration at the club and its manager without wanting him out etc.

As it stands now I have my doubts but hopes he proves me wrong

Your right - are expectations are a lot lot higher and I'm not sure Hodgson can achieve them tbh .

And that means they could prob go for any manager they wanted too - we spent 9 million was it ? Changing managers in the hope things would improve . I asked a question earlier - how have we improved since Hodgson has arrived and not really been told any improvement yet . I'm struggling to find any except the purchase of Meireles but even that is not working out as manager is not using him correctly at the moment

But if Roy is so great they would have wanted him wouldnt they? They didnt and the reason is because hes not good enough, and they have ambitions.

I dont know whether Hodgsons good enough or not. Neither does anyone. I dont like what Im seeing but I dont expect miracles considering how low we have fallen. Any new manager is a gamble. Benitez was, and luckily for us he won the CL in his first season. But he never won the PL, yet he was given time to try. I fear now that Roy will not be given time and that itself will set us back even further.
And I dont believe "super manager" exists.

We Know Lad ...and if you took the time to close your eyes and imagine the future you would clearly see Roy's not included mate ...
he has only served to confirm our greatest fears ...we are on a permanent slide and he has neither the strength or conviction to keep us from slipping even further ..... seriously though Lad Liverpool fans whilst being the most faithful to a manager they believe in..... they also do not as a rule suffer fools and never had and never will ...you of all people being a season ticket holder down the years should have experienced this .... honestly how can you extract any positives from our performances this season when you have bore witness to the glory years that have unfolded at Anfield ..... We as fans have never had to experience the mocking of rival fans in regards to performances on the field ...sorry  I digress this season its gone slightly further and now they actually pity us .....they pity us fella they feel for our plight and spare us from their abuse .... and that for me is something I will never accept ... we don't even register on their  scale any more not even an afterthought .... put simply we are being left behind Lad and its a rapid movement that shows no signs of slowing down  :(
as for the length of time given to Benitez in his first season maybe it was because we played decidedly  better football and it offered a modicum of hope ...and all could see the undoubted character of the man and he instantly developed an affinity with the fans" INSTANTLY " plus who knows if he had served up the garbage we have been subjected to this season then maybe he would have lost our faith as quickly as Roy

Mate most of what you say is true and I wont deny it. There are some of us on here who are lucky enough to have witnessed the greatest Fu*king club with the greatest Fu*king players and the greatest Fu*king managers in the Fu*king world.
How the mighty have fallen.
I both loved and despised Rafa for what he achieved and what he eventually did to us. I was unhappiest last season and welcomed the change, hoping that Roy would be the "breath of fresh air" we needed. So far he hasnt, because of many factors, including, as the captain said, the players not taking responsibility.
I am not saying he will succeed, but Im not saying he will fail either. If I am truly honest I will say that maybe I am hoping for too much and may be trying to be too positive in the face of disaster. But I want Roy to succeed so much it hurts. Not because I think the sun shines out of his ar'se, or that I think hes the greatest manager around, or because I am pro Roy/anti-Rafa. We are looking over the precipice here and I am fearful we will tip over. But the answer for me is not to rush into sacking the manager and taking yet another gamble. A cool head is needed in these troubled times and screaming for the managers head will not solve our problems

Agree Taff - we do all want Liverpool to succeed for the sake of Liverpool Football Club and no matter what has been said on here the fans do support and get behind the manager but he also has to give something back and show us he can succeed with us and he has to start showing us soon - we can't afford to loose ground so early and face an uphill battle

I have zero interest in getting involved in the debate that wouldnt f*cking die but Im going say it, I am really, really worried about the standard of our performances and Im going to put out a hypothetical but very sobering question:  If the unthinkable happens and we were to lose the next two games at home to Blackpool and away at the Bluesh*te does anyone else think it would be time to take a look at cutting our losses with this guy? By my reckoning it would be our worst start in the modern era, in all likelyhood put us in the relegation zone and pretty much be the bottom of the proverbial barrel. This is not a swallow your pride or "we told you so" question, Im asking you that in the cold light of day could we realistically afford to let the team continue under such a medicore level of performance?

I agree and I hope he does come across better in the media for his own sake.  It does feel like we both need to get to know each other, am sure that  in normal circumstances the relationship would be a lot better but its not normal circumstances.

However its still far too early to judge properly, in fact way too early.

He needs to find his rhythm but the clock is ticking whether we like it or not.
