I can remember a few from you and Saint. Obviously I can't be arsed to trawl through this place to find them mate but ER is right. All of a sudden it's the squad.[/quote]
I think it was the previous season you're talking about Bav, the one in which we had Alonso. Once we'd sold him and bought Aquilani with the proceeds, winning the title was always going to be unlikely.

One thing which is unfortunate is how many people on the forum are STILL principally concerned with being proven right about something. It's absolutely baffling it really is.

Former Blackburn midfielder Lars Bohinen has questioned Roy Hodgson's suitability to managing Liverpool.

The pair worked together when the 63-year-old was manager at Ewood Park in the 1997-98 campaign but Bohinen, 41, has spoken out by claiming that his former mentor's style of play since moving to Anfield as pressure grows following a difficult start to the new season.

Whilst the ex-Norway international acknowledges that Hodgson is the best coach he ever worked under, he feels that his approach is better suited to a club who are accustomed to grinding out results rather than at Liverpool, where success is something of a requirement.

"There is no element of surprise to Liverpool's current style of play," he told TV2.

"It's all about passing the ball, but without any clear idea behind it. Players such as Gerrard and Torres are unable to shine in this formation and Roy Hodgson is the one to blame for this.

"I've worked under him in the past and he's the best coach I've ever had. However, he focuses too much on the defensive structure of a team.
"He doesn't really have a clear philosophy when it comes to attacking football. He used a similar style of play at Blackburn Rovers, Inter and Fulham.

"Hodgson is the right man for a club that wants to defend a certain result, but I'm not sure whether he's the right man for Liverpool.

"His preferred tactics suit a club like Fulham, but he's not much into attacking football and creative players. I expect [Steven] Gerrard and [Fernando] Torres to continue suffering under Hodgson."

A solitary win against West Brom stands out amongst two draws and two defeats in the Reds' opening five league games ahead of tomorrow's visit of Sunderland and Bohinen believes that Hodgson's players have to shoulder some of the blame along with their new manager.

He added: "To begin with, Liverpool's squad is simply not good enough at the moment. The spine of the team lacks the class and leadership qualities to compete with the big teams.

"Pepe Reina is a class shot stopper, but Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel are no leaders at the back. Steven Gerrard is the natural leader of the team, but he has been struggling to find his best form. Fernando Torres is a good player, but no leader.

"Additionally, Liverpool have done a poor job in the transfer market. Milan Jovanovic is not good enough in the one-on-ones and turns inward way too often.

"Christian Poulsen's action radius is too low and he hardly passes forward. Then Paul Konchesky is very vulnerable at the back. Raul Meireles is a good player, but he needs time to settle in."

__

Bohinen doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to LFC's 'spine'. I can't think of a better leader at the back than Carragher.

I am usure about all the comparisons on here with the last manager and this one. I dont think it gets us anywhere for me quite simply Rafa's time was up he had gone as far as he could with us and was taking us backwards, that said however means we needed a replacement and if it turns out the replacement is not up to the job that does not mean we should have kep Rafa rather we have just chosen the wrong replacement. I honestly think Roy is ok but not good enough, where we are now will improve as the team knits but I really cannot see us being more than a 5th or 6th place side.
I went the match to day and the following things struck me:
1) He didnt move of his seat until about half way through the second half even after we lost our way and the team needed a lift, he just sits there looking out of his depth with head in hands, I dont actually think he has no ideas or is sinking but his body language portrays it and it does not inspire.
2) Why are we playing 1 up front and a holding midfieder at home this again is negative and does not inspire confidence.
3) Why are we not closing down and inviting pressure then hoofing the ball away, this is the kind of thing lesser teams do and it pains me this is what we have reduced our football to be.
4) Why for 60 + mins was our new 12m central midfieder playing on the right hand side with Kuyt tucking in, he is a first choice for Portugal in the centre and at his previous club why the hell have we started playing he today right side and the other day in the hole ?. If we need a wide player which in my opinion we clearly do then why did Roy not make that our priority anybody can see the shell of the team Rafa left was decent but lacked width.
5) I really rate Kuyt always have and will always defend him, but today he was terrible but somehow still played the full game even after a lay off of a month, I just dont get it.
6) Johnson defensively was terrible today, he could not complete a simple pass in our half but a times looked like Ronaldo in theirs, really wish Rafa had bought a solid right back and invested in a winger, hopefully Roy will.
7) Rightly or wrongly the atmosphere at the game was very flat its almost like we are not expecting much and fearing the worst, Hodgeson needs to try and take the supporters with him or he will start to lose the crowd, there was actually booing today, which 6 games into the season with a new manager is a real worry.
Also I am really starting to get worried by Roys comments it akes us sound so small time and negative its embarrising......We are Liverpool and even a poor Liverpool team should be beating the likes of Sunderland and Northampton he does not make me believe and I am worried if the players truly do.

I said months ago we will look back on the "Rafa" with great joy and ask ourselves why we actually sacked him.

Maybe it wasn't Rafa who lost the plot but maybe the club gave him **** to work with.

But no manager in the world can give us what we want as long as the situation is what it is.

Kuyt has always been :censored:, just for some reason everyone turns a blind eye since he pops up with a goal now and then...

If we keep playing like this, creating just one or two chances per game, then the first Transfer I see in January is Roy and his suitacase out of Liverpool airport.

Gotta say I dont like how Roy just sits there for the whole game.

Against Northampton our players looked lost. The youngsters were all over the place in confusion.

I dont understand why Roy cant at least come out for a minute to just try and get things organised? Even Sammy Lee got up himself at one point!

Another thing that gets me, why are so many people bitching about whether or not Roy gets off the bench? How about when we scored or got a good result and Rafa didn't batter an eyelid? oh right yeah....sorry....silly me....I forgot who I am comparing him to.....

Thats a completely different thing though mate.. Rafa not celebrating a goal doesnt screw up tactics does it!

Roy sitting down doing nothing certainly cant clarify the tactics when the players on the pitch are confused.

Just because he is sat down doesn't mean he is doing nothing. He doesn't need to stand to make a sub does he? No, for me its nothing but simple nitpicking.

No mate but he needs to stand up in order to get to the technical area were he can tell players on the pitch what to do.

Not many other managers do it. Especially not the managers in the top teams..
