do you seriously think someone like Mourinho would be giving such a defeatist attitude to the media?

Mourinho would manage the club and his media relations differently to Roy. Mourinho is different to pretty much everyone though Maxi, and I wouldn't necessarily use him as a benchmark.

i just feel he is being too soft, too nice and perhaps too honest. i want someone with more guts and someone who isnt afraid to tell it like it is. someone like Moyes or Ferguson. and at the same time, there are many players who dont deserve to wear the jersey. attitude is shocking. especially Babel.

Pounce. :no

"It" - the continuing uncertainty over the ownership of the club - as manifested in fans' protests - can't be helpful for the man charged with trying to lift the team's performances. Does anyone seriously think he doesn't want a swift resolution to the ownership situation? Does anybody seriously think he's anti-SOS? Of course he does, and on the second part, it simply isn't his domain; he's a football man, not a politician. He's concerned with the broad point that carries significance so far as his job his concerned and that is that there is a successful resolution to the ownership situation. But people will read whatever they want to read and if it accords with a pre-existing view, bingo. It was the same with Rafa toward the end of his reign when he was accused of trying to discourage SOS from protesting at a game in order to ensure his contract negotiations ran smoothly.

What I like is that he's not trying to weadle his way in, he's not trying to wriggle. He's not a fool, he knows the fans are deeply unconvinced by him, but he's resisting what must be an incredible temptation to take the populist stance and just telling it like it is.

He's already said a few times that the club will be massively better off with new owners, but I noted during this interview that he said "but I don't want to hide behind that". THAT'S why I don't think he came fully out in support of any demonstration, because he wanted to resist the temptation to be trying to get into the fans good books. I like that.

Perhaps you are right and we are misreading it, but in my eyes it looks like he was having a go at the protests not the reasons behind them, but if he wasn't then I would be a bit relieved, not in that he doesnt have a right to his opinion because if he disagrees with the supporter action that is opinion and he is intitled to it but in that this really would have been the wrong time to make such a statement in a week where we've had probably our most embarrassing cup result ever and got a royal hiding from the Mancs in everything but the score. We need some positivity from the top man here, a rallying call for the squad and fans not comments that look like hes distracted by the politics the way our previous coach all too often seemed to be.

If he said "I think they should call it off" he would have been lynched. If he said "I fully support it" he would be sacked.
He might have been a bit naive and said something which could be misconstrued, but, for fu'cks sake, the mans trying to wake a sleeping giant and climb everest at the same time.
Cut him some slack...

Would have been better to have not commented IMO.He's only been in the club 5 minutes and should not be being critical of fans who have supported the club all their lives.

Roy should take a back seat from club politics and start winning football matches.
New manager or not and all excuses aside we have had an awful start 16th in the League and beaten by a 4th tier club in a cup, nowhere near good enough...half of me believes he will turn it round, the other half thinks he may be out of his depth!

Roberto you cant expect Roy to stick it to the owners, its not like he has established himself in the club the way Benitez had before they arrived and Im sure hes been made fully aware that any behaviour reminiscent of the last guy would be dealt with severely!

OliverKayTimes: Blimey. #LFC have had just 53 shots in first 5 games. Only Blackburn, Blackpool, Sunderland, Wolves fewer. Arsenal? 94
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
