I'll wade in, then: £17m profit selling players bought by the previous manager.
Ergo, thicky, he spent wisely.

We also had Claus Jensen their Danish midfielder living in our hotel rooms for about two months while he got sorted with a house. At that time, Charlton were mid table in the Premiership and they had three outstanding players (relatively obvously), as well as a couple of very good ones.
They had Darren Bent up top, and he used to cause everybody problems whenever I saw him. He was/is big, strong, quick and willing and plays on the shoulder for the whole game. Providing you play to his strenghts he is a very good player, and it was obvious then he would go onto better things in his career. They also had Scottie Parker in midfield who once again was obviously a cut above.
Their other top player was Konchesky. He was as solid as a rock, would bomb up and down the line all day long, and he took all their set-pieces (corners and free kicks). Perhaps he hasn't shone when Charlton or West Ham have played at Anfield, but you didn't need a coaching badge at Charlton to see he was a good player.
Like I've said a few times though, it's acedemic. Pretty soon, he'll be playing in red and we can all see whether or not we are calling it right. Once again to re-iterate, no sitting on the fence from me. I'm taking him to be a revelation, and for people to not believe they didn't rate him previously. Konchesky to be another top buy from Roy, that's my prediction.

Darren Bent and Paul Konchesky never played in the same Charlton team, and Scott Parker left before Bent arrived as well
john craig wrote:Not impressed by the Konchesky signing at all to be honest. Always thought he was a quite limited player who is also prone to bad mistakes.
He does however have a decent left foot and can cause some damage coming forward. Overall he'll probably do a better job than Insua did there last season (think I could have managed that myself to be honest), but giving 4 year contracts to average players who are 29 is not the direction I hoped we'd take this summer.
