Im not saying your assumptions are wrong or right. Im just saying you are assuming way too much.

But they are pretty safe assumptions though aren't they when you see the situation we are in financially at the moment . Happy to be found out to be wrong though

Liverpool Bid for Toivonen

We might have some money after all Benny  :O

Indeeed.

Even if this bid fails its very encouraging to know that Roy has the common sense to know that we desperatly need a striker :)

He can also play as attacking mid so can cover for Aquilani if he goes on loan.

Yes it looks a good signing all round and something Hodgson will be praised for if it comes off - good work

I can't see what difference it will make to Aquilani's long term form at Anfield to be in serie A this season. It was because he'd been in serie A so long that contributed to him struggling for form when he returned from injury last season. All Aquilani needed was a full pre-season's worth of training and the chance to fight for a first team place. I don't believe Aquilani has told Hodgson that he has to be in the first team every week. I'm sure Aquilani is ready to fight for his place. It seems to me that Hodgson has decided he wants rid but can't get rid this summer. I think Hodgson has made the wrong call on Aquilani.

Bit shocked at the Aquilani situation.

Don't see the point in a loan really.  When you're short of cash you don't loan out 20 mil players, you either put faith in them or sell them and reinvest in the squad.

We won't get 20 mil for him though, not even if he has a good season for Juve in Serie A, so just sell him now rather than loan him if Hodgson doesn't fancy him.

Personally I have seen glimpses that he's a good player and rather than loan or sell him, my preference would be to have a bit of faith in the lad and stick him in the team.  I don't believe he's so defensively frail that he couldn't play in a midfield two with either Gerrard or Cole in front.  He can also play in front of a midfield two, so I think he could have got a lot of games this season if we put a bit of trust in him.

"We need 25 players in our squad like everyone else. We need the 25 players to play Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and Carling Cup. Arguably you wish you had a few more.

"Any player that leaves this club will have to be replaced. We aren't in a situation where we can just let players go without replacing them. That's if they are in our plans for the 25 man squad."

If thats the case then it definitely makes sense loaning him out to up his value a little... We can do with a creative center midfielder joining the side to be honest... Not entirely convinced that Gerrard is up for the job yet...

If we manage to replace Aquilani with a Defour-Stankovic-Montolivio sort of player we'll most probably throw him straight into the starting 11 and push Gerrard higher up at the expense of Kuyt or Jovanovic.. Would give the side much more balance in terms of possession and much more firepower higher up... Gerrard-Cole-Torres all connecting higher up and having primarily attacking duties would be a joy to watch imo...

However, if Aquilani is not replaced, it worries my a little that we seemingly have no backup plan in case of injuries or suspensions... I have very little faith in 2 of Mascherano, Poulsen & Lucas ever being able to link up well as a CM pair...

When you have done an important investment, you don't count on the player -- which is natural because EVERY manager has his own tastes -- and he has high wages, and you have economical troubles, a way of winning time until a bid comes is to find a club that is ready to pay his wages.

He's a quality player and he'll play for Juve because of that. Hopefuly he does so well and Liverpool can get a good offer.

Ridiculous. Roy can't guarantee him "regular football" this season but is happy for Lucas to stick around?!
we've only won it 5 times

Doubt he'd play much for Juventus if he moves there.. They already have Diego who is one of the best attacking midfielders in the world and seem to have their midfield sorted with Melo and Sissoko... Milan, Fiorentina, Roma, or one of the smaller clubs would have been better for him imo..
Hopefully though, the deal doesnt go through and he sticks around and proves everyone wrong..

The question is: Was Alberto Aquilani the worst signing ever made by Liverpool football club?
