The team was changed too much last night. As far as Aquilani's future is concerned if he'd not good enough now what difference will further experience of Serie A make? It's clear that Hodgson prefers Poulsen who he knows more about than Aquilani. If Aquilani goes on loan for 8 months I can't see him returning. If it happens I think he'll have played his last game for the club.

It's a joke competition.

Anyway, Acqilani is fit to carry Alonso's jock strap.

So it was a joke competition when Shankly won it in 74 and Paisley won it in 76?

it's never been a 'top' European honour. And, over the last few years, the waffer cup has got slowly worse.

waste of buy in the first place if you ask me. We would have been better buying a realiable player who is fit 90% of the time..

All of what you said just there is assumption.

You dont have a clue about how much Roy has to spend. You dont have a clue why we are paying for Poulson in installments.

If we don't have a budget of zero why haven't we bought a much needed striker ? Why haven't we bought a much needed left back ? We are we having to wait to sell players before buying someone ? Why would you pay for someone in installments if you have money to spend ? Come on mate you must see the situation we are in - no money to buy players unless we sell and it's been that way for a whe now

With two weeks of the transfer window remaining, the gaffer is not ruling out more activity - and backed up Christian Purslow's suggestion that there could be 'one or two' new faces on top of Jones.

Hodgson said: "The Brad Jones situation has been under control for some time so I think he was talking about adding one or two other players to the squad (on top of that).

"We need 25 players in our squad like everyone else. We need the 25 players to play Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and Carling Cup. Arguably you wish you had a few more.

"Any player that leaves this club will have to be replaced. We aren't in a situation where we can just let players go without replacing them. That's if they are in our plans for the 25 man squad."

There's the European Cup ,or old Big Ears as its affectionately  known, and then There's the UEFA Cup second only in its importance and standing in the history of European competition ....it  used to to be known as the  fairs Cup and now its changed to the Europa League
All just names and titles but the silverware is the same .....still steeped in history ...... Liverpool have won this on 3 occasions the same as Barcelona ,Valencia and Inter Milan ,and one ahead of Real Madrid with 2 one more and we have won it more than any other team in Europe
that's what makes this cup so special ...... they can give it as many names as they wish.... but winning this Cup would still be a   piece of European History

Your sailing way off the mark here.

Im saying that Aquilani going might mean Roy gets a bit more money to spend.

Im not saying that we have some massive transfer budget and im not saying that we are completely skint. I am saying that neither of us have a clue. You are again just assuming everything.

We might not have bought a striker or a left back because Roy might still be looking. He could be negotiating a deal as we speak for all we know.

You seem to be arguing something completely different to what ive said  ???  I havent said anything about selling to buy.

You really are the master of assumption  :D

Its an assumption based on everything we have seen over the last two years - shall we revisit after the transfer window closes and see

The same people who say the UEFA Cup/Europa League is a joke competition and not a top European honour are the same people who would criticise Hodgson for going out so early of a European competition, if Liverpool were to go out next week.

In any event from a point of view of match practice and pride surely it would have made more sense to have given the likes of Aquilani a start last night. It's bizarre that Hodgson has reached this decision now several weeks after signing Cole. I think Mascherano will stay and yet again there will be no back up striker of any significance for Torres, besides the improving but inexperienced Ngog.

But they are pretty safe assumptions though aren't they when you see the situation we are in financially at the moment . Happy to be found out to be wrong though

A shocking signing that has been nothing but a disaster.
