Was Warnock better than either Riise or Aurelio at the time he was at the club ? Simple answer was no and he himself asked to leave to get first time football . If only we all had the wonderful power of hindsight because I bet not many complained when he left .

I think defensive wise, warnock might be a bit better but going forward and technically speaking, I think Insua is better. Just hope he can improve since he is still young. But kind of disappointed thinking we are going to upgrade on the position with a clean slate. Now that two of them are coming back. Wouldn't surprise if Dossena somehow find his way back to us :D

Were Aurelio or Riise far superior to Warnock? No. Don't twist the question to suit your purpose, I didn't ask was he better than them.

And I'm not talking about hindsight. And your point about people complainging at him leaving, I'm sure there was but it's not like he was/is Gerrard, Torres, Reina etc and therefore viewed as pivotal to the club. Not many LBs are. Again you're asking the question the wrong way around, were many people happy about it and I'd say less than were not happy about it. But you move on, if we start campaigns against the owners or manager about every bl**dy transfer we may as well take up residence outside Anfield

As long as the price is right and it isn't just a cheap offload job. He may not be an ideal LB, far from it, but let's get his market value. If we sell him as cheap as we did Warnock then I won't be happy, and why should we sell him for less than the £2.5m to £3m we should easily ask for him? He's worth that in potential if not current ability, or at least why should we (always) pay more than a player is worth and sell at less or equal to their worth?!?!?!?

Says here Insua's move to Genoa has fallen through.

Emiliano Insua’s proposed move to Genoa has collapsed after the Italian club refused to meet the left-back’s wage demands. Genoa were keen on signing the 21-year-old after negotiations with Fiorentina fell through. Reports suggest that the Italian outfit had agreed a fee for the player believed to be in the £5M region.

However, the Argentine is holding out for a contract worth up to €2m a season with Genoa only willing to offer him a fraction of that. This news comes twenty-three days after his proposed move to Fiorentina fell through for the same reasons.

It would seem that the 21-year-old is being stubborn about leaving Anfield and is only willing to do so if any potential new suitor can match what he currently earns. The left-back fell out of favour at Liverpool and doesn’t look to be part of Roy Hodgson’s plans as the new boss looks to strengthen key areas of his squad.

2M€ a season for newbie in professional football is way too much if that's what we've been paying Insua.

No wonder he has problems to accept other wages, but that problem has been created by Liverpool (Rafa or whoever).

I think Insua has a good future as a footballer, but we shouldn't have paid him that much for a youth investment.

Clubs are quick to complain about wage demands, but at the end of the day they themselves cause the problems by acceding to demands in order to 'get their man'. A top player becomes available and clubs want them badly enough they pay silly money, they should have all joined forces and said "no".

As for Insua, the kids see what older pros are earning and want a piece of the pie. Now if Insua is dragging his heels over wages then LFC have only themselves to blame giving him such a big wage. We may find it hard to get shot of him as a consequence, what clubs want him will not want his wage demands. Therein lies a big pitfall for big clubs, overpaying average players and finding their only future lies at smaller clubs who can't match the wage demands - even those willing to meet fairly extravagant transfer fees.

Does he have a good future? Maybe, maybe not. Really depends how much he works on his game and whether he is as good as he gets or can improve.

Totally agree with that. No one seems to be up in arms with the departure of Benny, even before we got Cole. He's definitely left us with a few happy memories though (the header against real madrid being the pivotal one!)

Anyone heard anything new about what's happening with Insua? He wasn't even in the squad against Arsenal which to me suggests that he's still on his way out. If we could get the reported 5 million from some club I would take it.

We accepted bids from Fiorentina and Genoa which were in the region of 5 million. The problem is his wage demands, both bids collapsed after he refused to lower his wage demands.

Looking more and more as a bosman too me.
Not good enough and won't play, refuses to leave unless he gets his payday and 1 year left on his contract.

Young but a very poor defender right now imo.

Is he still listed without a squad number? Surely he should take the hint. Can we not broker a deal with one of the clubs prepared to pay £5m, cut off a million and they can pay the greedy little fecker an extra £20k a week (give or take) ?

Well, we started off the pre-season thinking we were less 2 LB (Aurelio and Insua). And now though we've got them both back, it seems like we're STILL without 2 LB. Agger has had to play LB in all the BPL games so far. But we've got 1 more day to get the transfers sorted out. If Insua doesn't leave by then, then what? He rots in the reserves? Guess his international captain didn't leave too good an example to follow. Is it Roy who doesn't want to play him, or Insua himself who doesn't want to be played?
