Believe it or not I asked this question to a guy who worked at Melwood and he reckoned that Rafa thought the way forward was to move the line higher up to make the team more attacking hence the selling of Alonso to make money and get Aqua who is happy higher up the pitch than Alonso was.
Rafa actually sacked the guy along with a lot of other coaches last year so I see no reason for him to lie but he also said that in the plan was a big BIG buy to go upfront but the money was used to pay the banks.




He's never injured.
